Dry for most with plenty of clear spells, as high pressure continues to dominate. Cloud will linger across some eastern areas, thickening through the night. Mist and fog patches in places. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 16/08/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Greg Dewhurst.
00:00Hello there, welcome to our evening broadcast from the Met Office.
00:03High pressure continues to dominate our weather pattern at the moment like it has done for much of the summer so far.
00:10Though this high pressure is built in from the north, so there is a bit of a keen north-easterly breeze,
00:14making it cooler and cloudier along some eastern parts of the UK like we've seen through the day today.
00:19And also a squeeze in the ice bars towards south-western parts of England, pretty gusty here too.
00:24We've seen gusts of 30 to 40 miles an hour or so, but generally dry for most.
00:29And it's a dry end to the day this evening.
00:31Plenty of sunny spells, though cloud will linger across some eastern areas.
00:35And through the night it could thicken and give some patchy light rain and drizzle in a few places.
00:40But largely dry and clear spells for most.
00:43We could see a few mist and fog patches forming, though remaining quite windy across parts of Cornwall and Devon.
00:48Gusts around the coast here could reach 40, 45 miles an hour or so.
00:52But otherwise, temperatures across the board in double figures once more, 12 to 16 Celsius.
00:58So a little lower than they have been of recent nights, so perhaps a little bit more comfortable for sleeping.
01:05And tomorrow morning, a great start across eastern parts of the UK once more.
01:09A bit of light rain and drizzle, particularly towards the coast and over the higher ground.
01:12Otherwise, plenty of hazy sunshine from the word go across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales down into south-west England.
01:18And as you can see through the day, this cloud remains across eastern parts of England, down into East Anglia, the London area, south-east England.
01:26It should lift and break a little to allow some brighter skies.
01:29But there is the chance of a few showers towards the east coast at times.
01:32And the wind coming in off the North Sea here, it will be quite chilly and also still quite breezy around some channel coasts in the south-west as well.
01:41But in the sunshine, feeling fairly pleasant, temperatures reaching the mid-20s, perhaps locally in the strongest sunshine in the south, 27 or 28 Celsius.
01:50But struggling to reach 18 to 21 Celsius along some eastern coasts where that cloud remains and the breeze comes in off the North Sea.
01:58Into the evening time, we are going to watch this cloud again.
02:01It will thicken and then slowly push westwards as the night goes on.
02:05An increasing chance of some light rain and drizzle, particularly across central parts of the UK, perhaps some heavier spells of rain moving in here too.
02:13Clearest spells holding on in the west, again one or two mist and fog patches and still again breezy across south-west England.
02:20And temperatures again overall with a bit more cloud around, perhaps a little higher again, 14 to 17 Celsius, taking us into Monday morning where it will be a greyer start for most.
02:30Some patchy light rain and drizzle in places, but as we go through the day, the clouds should lift and break.
02:35There will be some sunny spells developing.
02:37Best of the sunshine most likely through the day across western and central parts of Scotland.
02:42And then also the risk of some heavy showers, perhaps the odd thunderstorm just pushing into the very far south-west of England.
02:48Here the winds will be a little lighter compared to the weekend.
02:52And in the sunshine, once more, temperatures lifting towards the mid-20s, but always cooler along eastern coast.
02:5716 to 19 Celsius, where we do keep the cloud here.
03:01But for most, another dry day to come, plenty of sunny spells.
03:05And it remains fairly dry through much of the week ahead as well.
03:10We're looking at sunny spells, the risk of one or two showers perhaps towards south-west England,
03:15and the clouds thickening in the north at times.
03:17But there should be plenty of dry weather to come.
03:20But notice the temperatures still above average on Tuesday in that sunshine.
03:24Come Wednesday and Thursday, back to around average, if not a little below in places.
