00:30Two weeks ago at Knock Hill, thick fog almost stopped any racing taking place, but a first
00:49race win for local hero Anthony Reid soon cleared the gloom.
00:53The sun is shining in the sky, there ain't a cloud in sight, it's something, everybody's
01:03in the lake, and don't you know, it's a beautiful day, hey.
01:10Mr. Blue Skies, please tell us why you had to hide away for so long, so long, baby,
01:19and don't you know.
01:25Anthony, you had a terrific weekend there at Knock Hill, and you're now only 23 points
01:29behind the two voxels in the championship standings.
01:32Was that a good result for you?
01:34A phenomenal result.
01:35I mean, I'm really enjoying the racing this year, particularly being a private team.
01:39Something that appeals to the British psyche, you know, supporting the underdog, and we've
01:43got terrific support at the circuits this year.
01:46Now, those 23 points, how much can you sort of claw back this weekend?
01:51Well, based on recent form, I mean, our car is going really quickly.
01:55I think we've won four races out of the last eight, and Vauxhall haven't been on that top
01:59step of the podium yet.
02:01But you can never basically underestimate Vauxhall.
02:04I mean, they always have that ability to bounce back.
02:07They're a top team.
02:08So, but by the same token, we're a top team too, and we're going to fight, and we're going
02:12to just basically take each step as it comes.
02:15We're going to look at qualifying at Brands Hatch, and then we're going to look at each
02:19race individually.
02:20We've got a target of chipping away at their sort of points lead, and if we can keep to
02:24that, then there is a chance.
02:26What do you think their weakest point is, both James Thompson and Ivan Moyes?
02:30I think partly driver psychology.
02:33The fact that they've been at the top of the game for so long, it's very difficult to maintain
02:38that advantage, and also, you know, the championship's maturing in the sense that the rules really
02:43are working, and there are many teams now that are capable of winning.
02:47So, all of that extra pressure is bringing itself to bear on Vauxhall, and you can see
02:52the chinks in the armour.
02:53Anthony, I know that you love Brands Hatch.
02:56What are your predictions for the races ahead?
02:59Brands Hatch is always very unpredictable.
03:01I mean, if you look back over recent history, British Touring Cars has always produced fireworks
03:05in terms of, you know, racing on the track, but also off the track too.
03:10MG, on the other hand, has had a lot of success here, so we're hoping to sort of use the
03:15strengths of the chassis to get our overtaking manoeuvres done so that we can get another
03:19big points haul.
03:20Lovely.
03:21Well, you can find out how Anthony gets on in race one after this break.

07:19With you all the way.
07:23Welcome back to Brands Hatch, where preparations are underway for the second of today's races.
07:29Now, let's take a quick look back at what happened in the first race earlier on this morning.
07:33Here are your commentators, Ben Edwards and Tim Harvey.
07:37We're getting ready then for the start of round 22 of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship.
07:44It's a crucial time in the points battle.
07:47What is going to happen here?
07:48Matt Neal versus Ivan Muller from the front row of the grid.
07:52It's a good start from the orange Honda of Matt Neal.
07:54James Kaye is slow away from third place.
07:57Luke Hines going past him.
07:58But Matt Neal has got the best start.
08:01He leads as they go into Paddock Hill Bend.
08:03There's a bit of bunching behind.
08:04You can see Tom Chilton going round the outside of the black Honda.
08:07Coming up there was also Sean Watson Smith and the Proton.
08:11But it's Matt Neal that leads at the hairpin for the first time.
08:14Chased by Ivan Muller and James Thompson.
08:16It's James Kaye who's managed to stay in fourth.
08:19He got a spinner at the back there.
08:21That's Carl Brees, unfortunately.
08:22I thought we were going to get every car around the first two corners.
08:25Carl Brees, sorry.
08:26Yeah, Carl Brees unfortunately turned around.
08:28But at the front, absolutely perfect start by Matt Neal, but immediately under pressure from Muller.
08:33He didn't get any of that wheelspin.
08:35He just drove that car away from the start absolutely perfectly.
08:38So Matt Neal trying to make the break from the Vauxhalls.
08:41It's a Honda leading.
08:42The two Vauxhalls in second and third.
08:44And just one point, remember, separates those two Vauxhalls in the championship.
08:48Ivan Muller in second is one point ahead of Thompson in third.
08:51Then it's James Kaye.
08:53Here's a replay of the start and you can see Matt Neal, no wheelspin, just perfect traction.
08:57Drives away behind him.
08:58James Kaye gets a slow start and bunches everybody up.
09:02Just about manages to hang on on the inside, but it's certainly bunched up the pack and gave the first three a nice clear run through Paddock.
09:10Now, that was what happened at the start.
09:13But at the back, of course, we saw Carl Brees get into trouble coming out of Druids.
09:18But this is...
09:19Well, that car's on fire.
09:20I thought it was a strange place to stop.
09:22He obviously stopped there in a bit of a hurry.
09:24It's on the approach to Druids.
09:26May cause a safety car, but it was a strange place to stop.
09:29And I dare say he's got some electrical problem, probably, and the car cut out.
09:33And that, maybe the electrical problem has manifested itself in a fire in the wiring loop.
09:37Now, you see the fire extinguisher went off. An explosion of fire extinguisher there.
09:44And must have made life a bit difficult for people heading up the hill, actually, because they suddenly had a fog in front of them.
09:49Yeah.
09:53Matt Neill with the restart underway.
09:55It's Ivan Butler and James Thompson immediately behind.
09:58Here comes Luke Hines trying to get past James Kaye, but he didn't make it.
10:02He wasn't tight enough to the inside.
10:04James Kaye had that covered.
10:05In fact, Rob Huff now trying to get around the outside into the hairpin.
10:09That's a brave manoeuvre to try.
10:11Of course, it gets slippery on the outside of the track, and Rob Huff has to slot back into place.
10:16He's chased by Tom Chilton and by Stefan Hodgson, by Sean Watson-Smith, who's running in ninth place.
10:22Tenth place still for Michael Bentwood, and eleventh place for Jason Plato.
10:27Plato has to do something in the remainder of this race, but there's still some time.
10:31Ivan Muller takes a much wider line into clearways there than Matt Neill.
10:34Let's just see what happened here between Collard and Jason Hughes a moment ago.
10:39Yes, Jason Hughes had gone past Collard up at Druids, and, well, Rob really didn't need to do that.
10:44Gave him a good whack. Jason did well to receive it, but he actually lost a further place, unfortunately, to Carl Brees.
10:53Through come the top two then. Muller in second.
10:56Thompson not able to quite stay with the top two.
10:58He's lying in third place in that new-built car that VX Racing had to put together for this weekend.
11:04Looking down again at that incident, you can see from Reid's car this was.
11:09There was the contact between Collard and Jason Hughes that knocked him sideways.
11:13Don't think Hughes was too impressed about that.
11:15And the off is the Hodgson in the Alpha. He's off at clearways now.
11:19We don't see what happened there, but that's on the turning in point to clearways corner.
11:24Stefan Hodgson after looking as though he was going to get a top ten.
11:27And, of course, that's put Turkington into tenth place now.
11:30They've got an MG into the top ten, and it could be into pole position for race two here.
11:36Twenty-three laps have been completed, four laps to go.
11:39Matt Neill is still the race leader.
11:41Ivan Muller in second, James Thompson in third, James Kaye is fourth.
11:44Luke Hines still chased by Rob Huff.
11:46There is the battle for third, but poor Stefan Hodgson is out.
11:50And we're on board briefly with Jason Plato comfortably in ninth place.
11:54Will he dare try and drop one place to finish in tenth? It might be too risky.
11:59Matt Neill has crossed the line. He's on to his last lap now,
12:02as Tom Chilton still puts the pressure on Luke Hines for fifth place.
12:07But Matt Neill looking to take his second win at Brands Hatch this year.
12:11Having won here in April, he has really controlled this race from pole position.
12:16A great start from him. He's got a 1.8 second gap over Ivan Muller.
12:21And he's just got half a lap to complete now to take victory here at Brands Hatch.
12:26Muller will be pretty happy, I think. It'll extend his lead slightly over Thompson.
12:30But Thompson, he's struggled with a bit more ballast,
12:33and he's going to come home in third place.
12:35Who will be tenth, though? That's the big question.
12:38Turkington's under pressure from Bentwood, let me tell you,
12:40as they come down the back stretch.
12:42Matt Neill's heading towards the chequered flag.
12:44He's out of clearways, on to Brabham straight.
12:46Matt Neill takes the first race win of the day.
12:48Ivan Muller finishes in second place.
12:51We wait for James Thompson to come through in third.
12:54Harriman, a lapped car just going through past us now.
12:57It's Thompson in third, K fourth, Hines fifth, Chilton sixth, Huff seventh,
13:01Watson Smith eighth, and the battle for tenth across the line.
13:05And I think Bentwood got it just across the line there.
13:08Michael Bentwood took tenth place.
13:10So the result of race one saw Matt Neill take the first win of the weekend,
13:18ahead of Ivan Muller and James Thompson.
13:20James Kay scored his best finish of the season in fourth,
13:23ahead of Luke Hines and Tom Chilton.
13:25Rob Huff was seventh, ahead of Sean Watson Smith,
13:27and Jason Plato was ninth.
13:29But Colin Turkington has been given back that tenth place.
13:32It was deemed that Michael Bentwood pushed a little bit too hard.
13:36So Turkington will start from pole for race number two.
13:39And yes, here I am on the grid with the man, Colin Turkington, who's on pole.
13:45Now, he didn't have a particularly easy fight of it getting that pole.
13:48So we'll find out from him exactly what went on.
13:51Colin, tell us the drama that unfolded for your pole here.
13:55Yeah, the last lap was pretty hectic.
13:58I was lying in tenth position and going into the last corner up at clearways,
14:02just got a tap from behind, which pushed me on past the corner
14:05and the guy behind then gained an advantage.
14:08So thankfully the stewards reversed the decision and gave me tenth place,
14:12which is now in pole.
14:14So it's great to have a clear track in front of me,
14:16so I need to make the most of it here.
14:18Now, these cars aren't going particularly well today, are they?
14:21Now that you know Anthony Reid, why is that?
14:23Yeah, well, we've done very well at Knock Hill
14:25and we've come to Browns with quite a bit of success, fellas.
14:28So that's a big factor, which is causing to be a bit off the pace.
14:32So hopefully now that the car's fully light,
14:35so we're just going to go for it here and see how it is.
14:39So are you going to convert your pole into a win?
14:42That is the game plan, but it doesn't always work out,
14:44but I'm going to give it my best shot.
14:46Lovely, all the best to you.
14:47Now then, stay tuned after the break,
14:50where we will bring you Race 2 Live.
