00:00Karenage residents are tonight calling on the authorities to attend to a landslide adjacent
00:04to their property which is threatening their home. The residents say it has been posing a
00:09problem for years with Yvonne, former Prime Minister and MP for the area Dr. Rowley paying
00:14them a visit but to date no redress. The Wilsons are always one bout of heavy rain away from their
00:27home being transformed into a swimming pool and they say they've been dealing with the
00:32situation on their own for years. Here in St. Peter's Gardens we've been having this ongoing
00:39problem with landslides. The first landslide I had was even before 2018, it was actually
00:45probably before 2015 even and at that time I didn't get any help from being with the authorities
00:51so I had to clear the drain, I had to rebuild the drain and then you know try and you know
00:58just rebuild my fence.
01:00So all of this I've had to do, rebuild the drain, rebuild the drain up here, rebuild the drain
01:09there. It has really been quite an exhausting and expensive enterprise for me. You know I
01:15should be living as a retired person but I can't stop dealing with this.
01:22Ms. Wilson says even the former Prime Minister and MP for the area Dr. Keith Rowley had visited
01:28with officials some time aback yet still the problem was never rectified.
01:34I have written numerous times, I have had in fact even the Prime Minister, the Minister of
01:40Works, the PO have come into this yard when I had that episode in 2018. And they built
01:47a wall in 2019, as you can see there's a very big wall, 20 foot wall almost, right opposite.
01:55But they stopped the wall because they also had a landslide down on that end. Later than
02:01my own originally, this was the first one then they had that one, they built the wall over
02:06on that side but they stopped it a few feet from this property.
02:11Ms. Wilson believes the problem and solution are two-pronged as the landslide needs to be
02:16contained and the drain needs to be rehabilitated.
02:20When was the last time that the drain was cleared as far as you can recall?
02:25Ms. Wilson, You mean when I cleared the drain? No.
02:28Ms. Wilson, No, they don't come to clear the drain at all. The drain is never cleared by the regional
02:34corporation. No, that never happens. Has never happened. I've been here since 1981. That has never happened.
02:41More recently, the family also received a visit from MP Hans Devines.
02:47Ms. Wilson, Two weeks ago and ever since then I've been following up asking, you know, when will you send a crew to come and clean?
02:53People have come but they've all come to take a picture and comment on how severe it is and something needs to be done.
03:00And after that, there's radio silence. You know, I have direct contact with the ODPM. I've been pleading to them over and over that this is a disaster.
03:10You know, the P stands for preparedness and we need to be prepared for further disaster because it is going to continue happening.
03:16Houses are going to fall down. People are going to be hurt. And this is a disaster waiting to happen.
03:22The Wilsons subsequently received an email from the Diego Martin Borough Corporation today indicating that the corporation can do nothing to assist and recommending that they take the matter up with the Ministry of Works.
03:36Renessa Cutting, TV6 News.
03:39Contacted for comment, MP for Diego Martin West, Hans Devines, explained that the project is beyond the corporation's ability to execute.
03:47He adds, while he cannot give an approximate time for the commencement of the works, he and the corporation continue to work in the best interest of all constituents of Diego Martin West.
03:59He's the scope of the project and the level of remedy work that has to be done to really fix the current problem.
04:10The Borough Corporation referred that it be addressed by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
04:18As such, my office on being informed immediately gathered the pictures, gathered the information and sent a letter to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
04:28Not to pass right out, Âng process, just to forgot that, let the 보여ze.
04:32Is there any questions, please, although this approach is touching their history?
04:34The reason for email
