00:00Severe weather returns to the Southern Plains and Mid-South early this week.
00:06Now, we are entering the second severe weather season.
00:10You get two severe weather seasons during a calendar year.
00:13The first, and more prominent, is during the spring months, April, May, and June.
00:19That's when the jet stream starts to come southward and interacts with the warm, humid air from the summer.
00:27But the same thing happens during the fall.
00:31You don't have the warm, humid air, but the jet stream starts coming a little farther south.
00:35Notice the spike up in the number of tornadoes you typically see during the calendar year, that little spike during
00:42November.
00:43Well, jet stream has come on south.
00:45The system that produced all the rain in the southwest states is now pushing out into the Four Corners area
00:53and eventually into the Southern Plains over the next 24 hours.
00:56As we go through this afternoon, some very strong thunderstorms are going to form.
01:00Note that moderate area, the orange area, where we think the severe storms are going to be more numerous.
01:06We're looking at damaging winds, flash flooding hail, and there will likely be several tornadoes this afternoon and into tonight.
01:15Now, by Tuesday, the severe weather shifts a little bit farther to the east.
01:21But since our energy is a lot farther north, right now we just have a summer risk, which means isolated
01:27severe storms.
