00:00Kaden, you got the fire engine red truck here, man. It's a nice looking truck. Tell me about
00:10this thing. What are we doing? We're going to do a CP3 conversion kit on it. Oh, sweet. Yeah. Is
00:16he doing a fast fuel system? He's doing a fast fuel with it. Oh, yeah. Where's it from? This
00:20truck's all the way from San Diego. Really in the country? For the week for us to do this
00:25conversion kit on it. Just hanging out for a whole week while we do this? Yeah. You better
00:28get busy, dude. So it looks like you already got it tore down. You find anything else? It
00:32looks pretty clean, man. How many miles are on this thing? 84,000. How bad is the EGR cooler
00:37getting the car plugged up? Not too bad. And if you check that turbo shaft to make sure
00:42it's all good. Yeah, it's nice and tight. Yeah, good. So we're going to replace the CP4
00:47pump, which is right down here. It's that pump right there. We'll put this fast fuel system
00:53on there. Does he want us to get all his maintenances done, like break all his fluids and all that?
00:58Yeah, he wanted an overview of the vehicle. He's only done knock sensors and routine oil
01:02changes on this. Yeah. How's the front of that radiator look? I'm wondering, coming up from
01:06San Diego, around here, by now this thing would be plugged up full of debris. This one's not
01:12too bad, but it does have a little bit. Is this your new CP3? That's the new CP3. Sweet.
01:17Sweet. And then this is our fast fuel system pump. Yeah. And our filters are in here. Cool.
01:26Well, this would be a nice upgrade for him. We got a lot of carbon in this.
01:31Got a little bit of carbon. A little bit, man. Yeah. See this?
01:34We had to clean all that out for him and everything. Yeah. What's all that wet? Did you just spill some
01:42fuel in there? Yeah. Just removing one of the lines. Okay.
01:46Okay, folks. So what we got here is our upgrade from a CP4 to a CP3. Now,
02:00the problem with the CP4 is that when they grenade, and they're pretty famous for that,
02:06they will totally take out your fuel system. You'll end up with all new injectors, lines, rails,
02:12panels, pull the gas tank off. And this pump is famous for this. This is a two-piston. Yep.
02:18You can kind of see, here would be the crankshaft, and here's the two-cylinder heads. One of them's
02:24here, and one of them's here. And the CP3 pump actually has three heads in it. One, two, three.
02:33And so the crankshaft's in the center, building pressure in these three-cylinders. They're much
02:38more durable, reliable. They don't cause the damage that this one will cause when they go bad.
02:43They send you the entire package. It's a really nice package. Who are we getting this from?
02:48This is from Fleece. Oh, yeah. We use those quite a bit, and we're happy with it.
02:54Looks like they got this nice adapter plate. You can see where this engine's. It's got a bigger
02:59O-ring here, where it goes into the back side of the engine. And we've got that one on the CP3,
03:06but we'll put an O-ring on this, and you can see how that's the adapter for it.
03:10I would recommend, just as a precautionary measure, when you open up the fuel lines,
03:14let me show you. Anytime you have a fuel line open on a rail, you should put a cap on that.
03:19Because as clean as you have this, I know we steam cleaned this before we started working on it.
03:25You still don't want to get any dirt in an open rail, because that's going to go where?
03:29Right into the injector. Right into the injector.
03:32So it's just a little cautionary thing that I'd recommend you do. Why don't you go grab us a red cap
03:37for that? We keep a stock of these for different size cups and things like that to cover that kind
03:43of stuff, because dirt and diesel do not mix. It's the quickest way to cause a nightmare.
03:50But this kit comes complete. You can order it. Click on the link. You can order that. Of course,
03:57if you'd like us to do it, like this customer, he brought this all the way from Southern California.
04:03We have people that drive up here. They'll stay. Utah's a beautiful place.
04:08They'll rent a car and visit the place. It's about a two day job, isn't it?
04:12Yep. Yeah. Okay. It's looking good, man. Good job.
04:24We're back.
05:41Okay guys, so Caden is among the favorites.
05:48He's freaking awesome.
05:49He's young.
05:50This is, I think, what the industry needs is guys like Caden.
05:54So give us some tips.
05:55You've done a few of the fast fuel systems.
05:58What's your easiest way to do these for everybody out there?
06:00So do what they do on mocking it up and just have everything loose.
06:06The worst thing I've ran into is the return line.
06:08Just wherever you cut that hose, depending on the vehicle, if it's a long bed, short bed,
06:15it'll vary where you would put this return line.
06:17Okay.
06:18So maybe you want it farther or up more just so you can not have any kinks or rubbing
06:24on the hose because your return fitting is right there.
06:28So you've got to almost loop it around.
06:30Yeah.
06:31Just through here.
06:32Just try to see how much hose you've got to run your first two lines and then for your
06:37return somehow not kink it as well as put it in a good spot where it's not going to cut
06:41itself later on down the road.
06:43Right.
06:43What about the shim for the pressure?
06:45Because we did the CP3 conversion.
06:47Yeah.
06:47I mean, because you're supposed to have what PSI?
06:505 PSI.
06:51Okay.
06:51And so the shim will matter on how much PSI is being delivered to that point.
06:55Yeah.
06:56Cutting that spring.
06:57Okay.
06:58Factory, when you get a fast fuel system, it's around 8 to 10 PSI.
07:02Okay.
07:03So you've got to drop that to 5.
07:04So I've got to drop it to 5 so we don't have any surging problems on our CP3 tail.
07:10Okay.
07:10Anybody that's out there that's done a CP3 conversion on an LML, what does this surging feel like
07:16so we can help them know what to look for?
07:19The surging is almost like a mild vibration.
07:23You'll just be on the freeway and it kind of feels like the pump's giving out of some
07:27sort.
07:27Okay.
07:27Like they're almost losing fuel.
07:29It bounces a bit.
07:30Yeah.
07:31Okay.
07:31Okay.
07:31And it's just playing catch up with itself and some of those things are caused by these.
07:37These are what fleece have recommended to replace with this kit.
07:40Doesn't mean that all the time if you do a conversion it's going to happen.
07:44No.
07:44But it could happen and this is what is recommended to replace.
07:49So this goes on, this is a regulator.
07:52Yep.
07:53Right?
07:53And this goes on the...
07:54Driver's fuel rail.
07:55Driver's fuel rail.
07:56Okay.
07:57This goes through the block or the fuel filter and then down to the pump.
08:02So replace this.
08:03And these can be replaced with all GM parts.
08:07These are all just GM parts.
08:08You don't have to get some crazy aftermarket modification thing.
08:11It's...
08:12Yeah.
08:12GM.
08:13And then this is the return assembly.
08:14And I think their big concern is this component.
08:17That regulator.
08:18The regulator.
08:19So replacing this return assembly with the regulator, feed line, and this other regulator
08:24should be done just as insurance.
08:26Just insurance.
08:27Bit us in the butt once and this is good stuff to know.
09:09Caden here, young man.
09:11We love to learn around here.
09:12If you don't love to learn, you're in the wrong business fixing cars.
09:15So Caden put a CP3 pump on this thing.
09:19Did the whole changeover.
09:21Got it all back together.
09:22Also did a fast fuel system.
09:24We got to do some changing of fuel block and some other things.
09:29Is that where you got your fumbled up there in the fast fuel?
09:33That's where I thought.
09:34You thought.
09:35So really where was it?
09:36Just doing the CP3?
09:39Yeah.
09:39This is one of the hardest things.
09:42You can teach a guy or a guy's got to learn when he's working on trucks and cars.
09:47When you put something back together and it's not right.
09:49The thing's not running right.
09:51It's not working right.
09:51Whatever.
09:52You have got to look to yourself.
09:55You've got to do that, man.
09:57Quit grabbing your scanner and go look over your work.
10:02The moment I did that, Caden being the humble young man that he is, how long did it take
10:07you to figure out with Jason's help on this?
10:0915, 20 minutes?
10:10Four minutes.
10:11Four minutes.
10:12Because every move you make is money, man.
10:15So show me what you found.
10:17Right here, this regulator.
10:19Okay.
10:19I swapped the connector for that.
10:22You had the connector, so there's another connector?
10:24GM calls it regulator one on top of the injection pump.
10:27So you had the two plugs crossed, the one that goes on the pump?
10:31And the one that goes on that rail right there?
10:34I swapped the two regulators.
10:35The connectors.
10:36The connectors.
10:37That's all it was.
10:38That's all it was.
10:39That's a beautiful thing.
10:41How's it run now?
10:43Runs great.
10:44Let me hear it.
10:44That'll do him so much good the rest of his life.
10:48This really works.
10:51Yeah, it sounds good, dude.
10:52It's not clacking.
10:54You checked your scanner for your return pressure?
10:56Is it right where you want it?
10:57Yep.
10:58Booyah!
10:58Don't leave home without this bad boy right here.
11:02The suicide knob, that's what we're talking about.
11:06When we used to do a safety inspection,
11:08you find one of these on a steering wheel for a safety inspection,
11:11you'd have to fail it.
11:12Look at that, man.
11:13The guy's a Chevy lower.
11:14You've got to like this guy.
11:15So again, you know, I tell you,
11:17my guys, we try to not make mistakes.
11:20Who wants to do that?
11:21But because we work on so many vehicles that are brought to us from out of state,
11:26we're very cautious about shipping a vehicle.
11:30So before we ship this, I'll have the technician probably drive it home, you know, for two nights,
11:36at least put 50 to, you know, 100 miles on a truck or something,
11:42especially when I've completely rebuilt the fuel system.
11:45And the last thing I want is for the customer to take the truck and have a problem.
11:52So it's, you know, remember condition, cause, correction, confirm.
11:56And, you know, you want to confirm that that vehicle is fixed.
12:00And I, uh, people always ask me, you know, at what level do I fix a car?
12:06Or what level do I sell work to a customer?
12:09And the easiest explanation I can give on that is if you love your mother,
12:14and if you don't, you know, go figure that one out.
12:18But fix your car, your customer's cars, like it's your mother's car.
12:23You wouldn't rip her off.
12:24You wouldn't sell her stuff she didn't need.
12:26But, you know, you wouldn't want to not recommend stuff to her
12:30that would, uh, save her money in the long run
12:33or maintenance that would keep her out of trouble
12:35and certainly repair work that's needed.
12:37I think you're safe.
12:38I think that's the best, I think that's the best way you can ever handle, uh, any service business.
12:45Treat them like, you know, you were working for your mom.
12:48I'm happy.
12:49I think it's ready to go.
12:50Thanks.
12:51Thank you for bringing your truck up.
12:53It was a pleasure to work on.
12:54It's a really nice truck.
12:56Yes, I love it.
12:57I love it.
12:57San Diego.
12:59That's a long truck.
13:00That is.
13:00Yes, it is.
13:01And I really do appreciate it.
13:03You know, the blood and guts.
13:04This CP4 pump, that's probably why you had us replace it.
13:08Was that a good idea?
13:09Yes, it's, you know, when they go, they will destroy a fuel system.
13:14Yeah, when I did my research, that's what I learned.
13:16And I went, better pay now than later.
13:18Later, later.
13:19So tell me a little bit, your hat, uh, Vetru.
13:22Were you in, uh, the Vietnam War?
13:24Yes, I was in country, 39 months.
13:28Wow.
13:28My dad was in the military.
13:30Uh, what, what branch were you in?
13:31I was in the Navy.
13:32My dad was in the Navy for 24 years.
13:34Wow.
13:35Yeah, he did not serve in, uh, in Vietnam.
13:37He was stationed on the aircraft carrier of the Enterprise.
13:40Oh, yeah.
13:41Yeah, I ran with the Enterprise before.
13:43Yeah.
13:44But thank you for your service.
13:45Thank you both for the who you are.
13:47Thank you for being here.
13:49Yeah, well, we'll be here for a long time.
13:52I got two of my sons now running this place.
13:54This is why I still do this.
13:55You know, I'm not going to ever retire.
13:57Thank you so much.
13:59Bye-bye.
13:59It's nice to meet you.
14:00Bye-bye.
14:00Bye-bye.
14:01Bye-bye.
14:01Bye-bye.
14:02Bye-bye.
14:03Bye-bye.
14:05Bye-bye.
14:06Bye-bye.
14:07Bye-bye.
14:08Bye-bye.
14:09Bye-bye.
14:10Bye-bye.
14:11Bye-bye.
14:12Bye-bye.
14:13Bye-bye.
14:14Bye-bye.
14:15Bye-bye.
14:16Bye-bye.
14:17Bye-bye.
