We've sent this gentleman, a remanufactured, a TowMonster engine, we're now going to tear down his core.
00:08
So let me explain what a core is. A lot of times customers are like, what do you mean by a core chart?
00:13
We'll send you an engine. Then when you get it, you're going to send us back what we sent you, basically.
00:20
And this is what a long block is. We need the valve train intact. We don't want you to take the rocker arms off.
00:26
You're going to take the turbo and all the pedestal off. You'll take the high-pressure pump off. That'll come off.
00:32
You'll take your front timing cover off, your oil pan, all the, we call it all the peripherals.
00:37
So basically all I need you to worry about sending me back is exactly what we sent you, and we call this a long block.
00:44
Which is basically the head, all the rocker arms, the pushrod, the valve train, and all that.
00:51
I don't need, I don't want the front cover. I don't want the rear cover or the flywheel.
00:56
None of that. This is all we're going to do.
00:58
And then we tear this motor down, and we'll inspect it to see if it's a viable core.
01:03
Now what is a viable core?
01:04
I cannot have any cracks in the cylinder heads, cracks in the block, holes in the block,
01:11
a crankshaft that's beyond repair, or a camshaft that's beyond repair.
01:17
So we're going to tear this down, and we're going to find out, is this a viable core?
01:21
Will the gentleman get full core credit back, or will there be some credits because of the parts that are broken?
01:29
Let's find out.
01:30
So this was not the original engine in this customer's truck.
01:33
He told me that. He had bought an engine, and had it, and had replaced it, and it failed on him.
01:40
So we're going to find out what it failed.
01:42
So we're going to find out what it failed.
02:10
So we're going to find out what it failed.
02:40
So let's do this.
02:50
Woo!
02:50
Yeah.
02:56
Woo!
03:02
Woo!
03:03
Woo!
03:03
Woo!
03:05
Woo!
03:06
Woo!
03:07
Woo!
03:08
Woo!
03:09
I haven't really found a problem yet
03:39
yeah here we go now we get now we get to down to the nitty-gritty or the crappy
04:01
yeah so let's just see how much yeah the customer probably complained now this motor was shipped
04:13
out to Florida our motor this this was returned to us from Florida and I'm sure if I called the
04:20
customer he'd say yeah the thing was rattling and making a knocking noise a lot of times people
04:25
want me to speculate like like that bearing it's uh got a lot of dirt matter on it it's hard to say
04:33
to look at the motor because in here I have no sludge buildup or anything like that
04:37
now this dirt here that we're finding here this don't don't let that fool you that's that's that
04:42
was done in shipping in fact this this uh here let me see so yeah this is overheat the babbitt's
04:51
coming off the bearing so it's uh you know it's definitely lack of lubrication to the to the main
05:00
the the rod bearings be interesting to see if we find the same same thing on the main bearings now
05:05
this is the 67 and if you'll watch one of my very first YouTube videos longs on a 67 this motor
05:13
is notorious for it takes a a very long time for the mains to get oil on this motor they're actually
05:20
the last thing besides the rods to get oil because it has to fill up the hollow camshaft it's got to
05:28
go through this huge piping in the oil pan the oil cooler and all that before we actually get pressured
05:33
to the main and the rods and uh this could just be that problem so uh I've developed a uh a fix for
05:45
for this motor for that particular issue and uh just let everybody know we're seeking patent on it
05:52
right as we speak so I'm pretty excited about getting that release because I'm telling you
05:57
the the the most famous thing this motor goes down for is spun main bearing so let's see if we
06:03
got a spun main bearing on this thing
06:05
it didn't spin the main but the main has suffered this is usually dirt when you see
06:33
this but this could be you know bearing matter that was cutting loose on other bearings
06:40
didn't spin that one
06:50
yeah there's a spun so this one spun the bearing the middle one here a lot of guys out there they
07:11
say I've torn down that motor I've never seen a spun main bearing well have you tore down hundreds of the
07:17
six seven power stroke I would almost venture to say that nobody in america is doing more of them
07:21
than me and uh you can see that so this this block this block is junk once it spins that the block is junk
07:30
so he will be charged for the block core on that the head seemed to be okay but the block is junk
07:37
and we'll lift this crank out of here but you can see the parting line the parting line on that main bearing
07:42
is right here so the bearing has actually caught itself and spun in the motor and uh go ahead and
07:52
finish getting your rods out of there we'll lift it out of there and show them the reason that it ruins
07:55
the block is let me explain that is the the main bore housing is very let me let me show you a main bore
08:02
housing here
08:03
that housing has to be perfectly around and it can't be you know egg shaped or you know oblong
08:12
or anything like that it has to be perfectly round and it has to be perfectly around within
08:16
point zero zero zero two of an inch two thousand two ten thousands of an inch that's ten times finer than a
08:25
human hair that's how critical that bore size is concentric and round and when you you take a
08:33
bearing journal and you spin it around in there dry like that it ruins it we got this all tore down and
08:39
i thought i'd show you this so this is one two three four five mains these are the bottom uh of the mains
08:47
actually when i say the bottom these are actually the top this is where the oil comes from the camshaft
08:53
housing down into the main to charge uh the mains and remember the mains are the last thing to get
08:59
charged this is the main you can see how bad it's tore up that actually spun in the housing and you can
09:05
see this ridge here on the back side of that bearing where it spun in the housing so uh every rod bearing
09:15
has been trashed because of that this is a real problem with this motor the uh the way this motor
09:22
receives oil pressure is not optimal
09:34
so
09:52
so
