00:34Hey, just real quick, I'm in the shop looking at your truck with my Foreman Tyson,
00:39and I wanted to ask you a few questions.
00:41You had this at the dealer.
00:43They reflashed the computer.
00:44You got this uncomfortable shift going on, one and two.
00:50I needed a little history on it.
00:51So, no check engine light at all.
00:55I haven't had any service done on the transmission.
00:58Like I said, it just started to shift a little differently, like 1,000, 1,500 miles ago.
01:03So when I took it in, I took it in to dealer yesterday,
01:09and they just reflashed it with whatever to clear the code.
01:14Did you have a code?
01:15They said there were lots of code, but they didn't know what they were from or anything like that.
01:20So did they give you a record?
01:23They said there was lots of codes.
01:25Did they give you a record of what all those codes were?
01:27They should have?
01:28They did not.
01:29But you never had a check engine light on, though?
01:32No.
01:32No, sir.

01:37Did it ever get any better, or did it start at, you know?
01:39No, it seemed like it was better after they reflashed it.

01:47I mean, it's kind of been intermittent before anyway, to like call it 30% to 50% of the time.
01:53Like there was like one shift that I kind of noticed yesterday, but other than that, it seems better.

02:01Here's kind of my thinking.
02:04I'll see if I have any additional soft codes in it.
02:08It hasn't set a check engine light off yet, but let's see if they've got any of those codes that the dealer was saying where there was a bunch of them in there.
02:15If it doesn't, my recommendation based on kind of what you've said to me would be to go ahead and do a transmission service on it, which would be drop the pan, replace the filter.
02:28It has an internal filter in that training, so you have to drop the oil pan to do it, replace the filter, and then do a complete fluid flush on it.
02:36At 67,000 miles of service, it should be done at 50, 60 anyway.
02:41But, and then that gives us a chance, I'd recommend we do a service, get the right, you know, clean fluid back in there so it's got the right friction modifiers in the fluid, and then go from there.
02:52You know, I don't want to start selling you a bunch of stuff, especially when a service is actually due on the training.
02:58So, I'll have the service rider, I needed a little bit of that info, we'll continue to look at it, and I'll have the service rider call you with a quote on that training service if we don't find anything else.
03:07Yeah, and, yeah, no, that's fine, and then, can you have him, or whoever calls me, but just have him quote it for transfer case and. . .

05:38Well, he just had it reflashed, and they could have changed it to where it wants it to
05:43to warm up quicker, so it'll hold the gear longer to get it to warm up quicker.
05:47So that might be something else.
05:54Well, here's what I say we do.
05:56Maintenance first.
05:57Let's do all the maintenance first.
05:59We're going to recommend spark plugs based off mileage too.

06:02So we might as well look what else.

06:04It's 67,000 in direct injection in the motor.
06:07You know, it's going to be, I don't know how much plugged up, but it's going to be a problem.
06:11So we've got to get the engine running right and being right.
06:14But let's do that.
06:16And then I say, before we drop the pan and do the service, it shouldn't be too difficult.
06:22Put a line pressure gauge in that, and then see if the desired in the line is the same.
06:27Yeah, let me.
06:28And just so you have that as part of the document.
06:31You want that on the initial diagram?
06:33Well, I think maybe you can just add it in the thing.
06:35You know, you should be paid time to do that.
06:38But we need that data.
06:40Just to make sure.
06:41Yeah, we can say, okay, the line pressure is this at this point.
06:44If it's not, then we'd still want to proceed.
06:47If it's low, you might have a plug filter.
06:50If it's high, we might have something else.
06:55We'll see if we can do some programmers.

09:04Well, first thing we want to look at, no metal in the pan, but although you can see
09:08a little bit of, see this sparkly stuff going on in here?
09:11Clutch material.
09:12This is clutch material.
09:14I can kind of, and then you'll see it kind of sparkle.

09:21So there's some, see them, I'll push the metal over here on the magnet.

09:25So there is, there is some, a little bit of wear in there, but nothing, nothing crazy.
09:29No, obviously no big pieces.
09:31That's, you know, nothing excessive that I see in here.
09:35This is the filter element.
09:37This is why folks don't do a tranny flush without replacing your filter.

09:44I know a lot of oil change shops do that because they don't want to drop the pan because this
09:49is a mechanical thing.
09:50You know, you, you, you could run the risk of having a leak, but flushing your transmission
09:56without replacing the filter is like doing your engine oil change without changing the
10:01oil filter.
10:02You would never do that.
10:04So don't do that on your trannies.
10:06Replace the internal filter.
10:07Yeah.
10:08Let's get it changed out and clean the magnet off.
10:11And we don't have any bad news for the guy that, uh, hopefully that'll take care of
10:14him.

10:16I'm gonna put in the new filter.
10:19See how clean that is.
10:24The only problem with this is we can't go too much off of color, but more off of smell
10:29and material.
10:30Ultra low viscosity fluid.
10:31There's a lot of bulletins from the manufacturers saying that there's a flashing point.
10:35So, um, during the service intervals, some people will say, oh, it's too dark, too, too
10:40not.
10:41You can't really go off of that because this does have a flashing point.
10:44Okay.
10:45So, but, but looking at the pan, there was no harsh material like Dave said.
10:49There's just a little bit of clutch material in it.
10:51We're just gonna clean that all out.
10:53Put it back together.
10:54Flush the rest of it through the torque converter.
10:56There we go.
10:57Sometimes, you gotta be a chill guy and clean up.
11:06Look the mess this guy has over you.
11:09Someone's the same color as me.
11:11Yeah.
11:12They didn't know this, uh, fluid flashes, huh?
11:15Brand new.
11:16It's red.
11:17During all the heat cycles, it will flash almost a darker, darker red.
11:22It has the same lubricity properties, everything, just as a flashing point.
11:28Got a clean pan, gasket, and filter.
11:34And we're gonna install it to finish the service.
