00:04okay let's just come over here and sit down for a second so I'll introduce myself a little bit
00:11and everybody get a seat is this your whole class we're missing two okay and two ladies
00:18in the class I like that that's cool and you guys I hope you're doing it passion interest
00:23in it really everybody cool you know that's how I got into it I started out I was 15 years
00:31old
00:31and I used to walk back and forth to high school I used to go by this taxi cab and
00:35limousine company
00:36and so you know I'd be walking by in the chain link and I looking through the chain link and
00:40I
00:40was like all it was fascinating to me all that stuff tore apart and people working on the stuff
00:45you know I had the bug like you I tearing stuff apart when I was a little kid my bike
00:49had to get
00:51tore apart at least once a month the wheel bearings would get done and I'd put it all back together
00:56and uh I just begged the guy for a job I kept bugging this guy his name was Joey and
01:02I kept saying hey
01:02give me a job he was like get out of here I mean he was he was not very nice
01:06to me but finally I said
01:08look man I'll work here for free and if I don't make you happy in a week or two you
01:15let me go you
01:16know I'm out of here it's not gonna cost you anything and he said yeah okay so I showed up
01:22and he had me cleaning you know he just had me doing grunt work by the second or third day
01:27he
01:28he gave me a job and I think I started out at like two dollars and 30 cents an hour
01:32yeah that tells you
01:33how old I am you know that was my first job I cleaned out limousines and taxi cabs and learned
01:41to
01:41do oil changes and then break jobs but basically it was grunt work you know it's cleaning up after
01:46guys and organizing and I didn't realize it at the time because you know what do what does everybody
01:50want to do you want to get in there and get the work done you know you want to learn
01:54how to do a
01:54motor and do all that stuff but Joey the guy was a smart dude he was teaching me what's important
02:00and
02:00that's you know so if you go into this career I'm going to tell you this so that you don't
02:04get
02:04disheartened by it you have to learn how to clean the floor you have to learn how to organize your
02:10workspace you have to learn how to keep up and be smart about it so I tell everybody when I
02:15hire
02:16a guy a new especially new young people so this is a question I'll ask you like I was going
02:20to hire
02:20you because this is car repair so you get a 500 piece puzzle and it's all together and I say
02:27I'm going
02:27to give you a hundred bucks whoever can take the puzzle apart complete every piece and put it back
02:35together whoever wins that is going to get the hundred bucks so everybody's brain right now
02:40should be engaging okay how am I going to win that hundred bucks because that's what that's basically
02:45what being a mechanic is you got to take it apart because your diagnostic skills are going to be
02:50pretty pretty low that's that's the hardest thing you know you're going to find a master tech usually
02:56to work underneath and he's going to help you like how to figure out stuff you know you got to
03:00take the
03:00puzzle completely apart every piece and get it back together quick give me an idea how you'd do
03:06that how would you organize the pieces
03:14excellent let me teach you about life a quick little thing I call I got a lot of stuff I'm
03:18going
03:18to talk to you don't fall asleep okay this is life here there's I call it the four o's
03:25and everything you do there's opposition is an opportunity with options to overcome and I'll give
03:34you the secret one to obliterate the competition see I'm competitive you want to you you got to have
03:40that in your life if you're going to excel so opposition I got a puzzle here but it's an
03:47opportunity to what make a hundred bucks with options so that's those are two good options give me
03:53another one see I've been doing this a long time so I got all kinds of options I'd whip that
03:58puzzle
03:58over real quick and I'd take my marker and I'd start marking I'd go one two three four five six
04:03seven
04:03eight nine ten and I'd mark every I just marked up the crap out of that puzzle damn see you
04:08like that
04:09option don't you I'd turn that puzzle over and I'd get my pin I'd go one two three four five
04:15and
04:15everybody'd be looking at me and then and they'd already have their puzzle completely disassembled
04:20and they'd be going crap I'm gonna lose that because then all I got to do is just put them
04:26one two three four five back together who do you think is going to win that me so my point
04:33is always
04:34give at least in your whole life three options so think about the options in your life and you'll have
04:41more opportunity and uh I hope that makes sense to you and that's what mechanics is you look at a
04:48problem man don't face it with one option that's that's not that ain't going to do you a lot of
04:53good but everything in your life is going to work like that there's basically four avenues for you
04:58to go as a mechanic in this industry from those four avenues they of course have a lot of branches
05:02okay you can become a dealership tech a lot of people start out that way because the dealership
05:07offers you a single line you know you want to go to work at Chevy Dodge Ford BMW whatever I
05:12quickly
05:12moved into the dealership and I worked for Porsche Mercedes I jumped around quite a bit Dodge Toyota
05:20but so that's one avenue the dealer the next one is an independent and independents are kind of you
05:25know in kind of different categories you got the small independents that may be a three or four bay
05:30garage and they don't do a lot of stuff you know they get into light duty service work taking care
05:36of
05:36the community brake jobs things like that but they're not really doing the heavy duty stuff and then you
05:41got bigger independence like myself I actually have a machine shop in my in my shop so I I do
05:47things
05:47that I'm pretty unique in the United States there's very few shops like me and we'll take a tour here
05:55in a minute and then the next level is the the tire stores and the jiffy lubes and things like
06:01that and
06:02that's kind of that's not a every one of them is not a bad entry level the next one is
06:07is that where
06:09you go to work at a tire store and you're going to be a tire buster at first you're going
06:12to have
06:12mount balanced tires then they'll give you brake jobs stretching shocks things like that and a lot
06:18of fluid swaps we call them drop and swaps you know you drop fluid and swap it out the last
06:23one
06:24it's more like in a maintenance where you're going to go to work in a in a facility being kind
06:29of a
06:29maintenance guy like a printing company where they got machines running and things like that so you're
06:34not going to be working on cars and then of course that's also you go into marine I mean there's
06:39so
06:39many things you can do in this earth and this is one thing I'll promise you you could do you
06:43could
06:44get a job anywhere on this planet if you're a good mechanic and you can get a job like that
06:49like that
06:51it's a great career and that's not the top of it but it it takes you got to put in
06:55your time but my
06:56advice to you would be if you want to do this is go find a shop immerse yourself in that
07:01environment
07:03before you spend a dime on trade school college or anything you know all the opportunities out
07:08there like weaver state's got a great program now if you were to work for me and you wanted to
07:12go
07:13to weaver state and do those courses I would pay for it a hundred percent you should be able to
07:18find
07:18an employer if you're good that'll pay for your education and what you would do is you would work
07:24and take a few hours off you know to do your courses in the day or night school and the
07:29employer
07:29would work around that schedule for you it's a great career man I mean I'm 64 years old I've
07:34been doing this for 50 years 49 years I started when I was 15 and it's given me a wonderful
07:41life
07:42I would recommend it to anybody that's got the disease you got the disease
07:49you guys want to go for a walk and see the shop this is a Cummins this is how you
07:55do this you pull
07:56a cab up off a lot of trucks a good mechanic how long do you think it takes him to
08:00get a cab up
08:00off the truck yeah yeah an hour and a half a job like this to swap out an engine total
08:08as a long
08:09block everybody understand what a long block is short block long block long block is just the
08:14block with the head on it doesn't have any peripherals or tin and the tin is valve covers
08:18oil pan things like that so these are just jobs that we're doing Tyson say hi to Tyson Tyson now
08:25Tyson is
08:25one of you he's one of you Tyson went to work for me uh 19 yeah 19 years old did
08:32you know how to even
08:33you didn't even know how to do oil change did you kind of did I did shop class in high
08:38school I think
08:39I repacked wheel bearings I remember and just and how many years Tyson's been with me this is 30 years
08:47he's been with me for 30 years and uh I knew him his dad was one of my first customers
08:52and he Tyson
08:54used to come in with his dad when he was maybe just 13 14 years old and his dad came
08:59to me and
09:00said you know could uh could Tyson come to work here and I said sure and uh so he's been
09:06with me a
09:06long you know almost the whole time so he's the head foreman of the whole shop both shops you guys
09:13learned how to do alignments yet nice give me some of your angles what are they what are you trying
09:20to
09:20do okay everybody stand out here in a straight line straight line like this okay everybody with
09:28their toes we're gonna be the toes your two front tires okay your feet are your two front tires
09:34show me what uh toe in is see I made it easy for you toe in would be toe in
09:40okay now think of toe in
09:42you guys tell me if you had a toe in its condition what would be the wear pattern on the
09:48tires
09:49look down at your feet
09:52inside you think no there you go look at your feet drag your feet man if you do that what's
10:01going to wear the outside okay toe out there you go there's the inside so toe causes tire wear
10:11now take your feet I'm not going to help you on this one take your feet straight forward
10:15got uh zero toe this is positive that's negative okay toe in toe out now what's uh caster
10:26god show me with your feet man
10:33i'm gonna make this easy for you positive caster is that okay that's positive caster take your right
10:41foot and put it forward okay now does toe cause pull
10:52everybody this is important this is what i'm teaching you right now you can you need to understand
10:58sorry about the sun in your eyes you need to understand this is how you learn to diagnose things
11:03you want to know you want to be able to look at something go what the freak caused that that
11:09caused
11:09that that's your job that's your job as a mechanic that's not all your job but that's a major portion
11:16of your job because you got four c's condition cause correction confirm i'm full of these things you know
11:21we got the o's we got the p's and i just gave you the c's we'll go through the whole
11:25alphabet if you like
11:28okay but that's so so if you got your right foot forward put your right foot forward that's caster
11:33is going to be more positive on the right now i think you're going and let's just say your toe
11:38straight is the car going to pull to the left or the right because thank you it's going to do
11:47this
11:48you know you so so when you look at your alignment things and you go like the guy's complaint is
11:54hey man my car pulls to the right i pull i let go of the wheel and it pulls it
11:57right what can cause
11:58that cast or not toe caster but what do you do the very first thing you do before you do
12:07an alignment
12:07what's the very first thing you do
12:13beautiful dude that's so good that is so good dude but you missed one but that's good i'm gonna
12:20give that to you what's the very first thing you do take it for a test drive don't you ever
12:26ever ever
12:27ever never ever work on a car without driving it okay don't you ever do that now you ain't got
12:34to
12:34take it on some drive all the way to farming to the back but go out and just feel it
12:38and drive it
12:39listen to it because it's your patient you want to become a little familiar with it so you test drive
12:45it first and then the very first thing you do when you pull it in on the rack is check
12:49your tire pressure
12:49because if i had low tire if my caster was right my toe was right and i had a pull
12:54on to the right
12:56you would have a low tire on the right as a pot probability you can also have cord separation
13:01things like that so these are things you want to learn okay what's our now camber okay so we got
13:07positive caster negative caster okay toe in toe out now camber show me with your feet what camber is
13:15i'm like dude uh good job dude that's camber that's positive camber is that going to cause tire wear
13:22yeah positive camber is going to cause tire wear on the outs on which side i just gave you the
13:27answer
13:27outside yeah negative camber it's like that okay now is camp toe is connected right toe is connected
13:36you got you got tie rods you know a rack and pinion with tie rods on it so toe is
13:41connected is is
13:42camber and caster connected no so you can have negative cam on one side and be right here is that
13:50going to cause a pull yes which way is it going to cause a pull yes good for you okay
14:01those are basically
14:03your three angles in alignment now you know we didn't worry about the rear end you know you
14:08got your thrust angle too you guys have heard about that right so if you're you're you and what do
14:13you
14:13do first the rear or the front when you're doing alignment if you got a four wheel alignment to do
14:18huh yes you guys are good you're doing good job good job okay
14:24so this isn't much we're working on a warehouse these are some engines and cylinder head work that we've done
14:30and back here there's three engines there there's all the same engines and so they're organized now
14:38the motors were being we're rebuilding them but this is all the peripheral the turbos the intercoolers
14:43those are marine engines from uh a district in fort lauderdale florida they shipped them out here for
14:49me to do their three engines in a boat and then we'll put them all back together so we're that
14:55we're
14:55organized what we're doing here is we're prepping uh pans for engines that we're rebuilding we're
15:01cleaning them and and i'll show you he's actually doing that in there over here i'll show you some
15:08of this equipment now here's a piston there's one of the rings there that's broke here's a wrist pin
15:16there's the connecting rod yeah wow
15:25so um this is a crank welder or a cylinder welder you can basically put a cylinder in here it's
15:32like
15:32a lathe turn it slowly and the flux comes out of here and there's the welding rod and this is
15:37how
15:37you weld the crank shaft journal because when you have a crank that goes bad and you can't get a
15:42new one
15:42you you can weld metal back on it and then grind it back down to the right size and that's
15:48what this
15:48machine does i think it's one of the most coolest things to watch is how they grind cranks and and
15:54i
15:54got a son that is one of the world's best crank grinder and i'm he's good and uh but he
16:00can offset
16:00the chucks and that's how you do you know if you think about it here's a this is a cummins
16:05crank right
16:06here you know to do the mains would be easy right because they're in the center right the main bearings
16:13the main journals they're in the center you just zero turn the crank around bring that grinding
16:18wheel in and grind it how you gonna grind the rods see how they're you know they're offset you do
16:25that
16:25with the chucks you offset the chucks so that the rod when you're doing that rod it's spinning out in
16:31the center it's go look it up on the internet it's trippy to watch it is trippy you've seen it
16:39done
16:39it is trippy to watch and and it'll get it'll almost make you like seasick you know if you're
16:46not used to it because you're like whoa the thing is moving around a lot you know this is a
16:51crank
16:51balancer we'll spin up a crank here you put a transducer on it the computer will tell you where it's
16:57out
16:57you'll either take weight off the counterweights or add heavy metal to them you know so that uh
17:03you'd be amazed a crank that's off like maybe eight grams eight grams on a throw so a piston and
17:11a rod
17:11that's off eight grand how much do you think that thing weighs when it's at three thousand rpms that eight
17:16gram turns into 35 pounds over about 400. yeah and that imbalance causes that crank to flex
17:26so a balanced crank is not only smoother on the engine but it adds to the durability of that engine
17:32because you know your oil clearance on a crank on a basically oil clearance on about any bearing in any
17:39engine is two thousandths of an inch anybody know how thick your hair is we'll measure your hair so do
17:44they balance cranks from the manufacturer no no i've every crank i've ever spun up even brand new ones
17:51now when i say that a balance of manufacturers do not do that a crank grinder where you buy a
17:58brand
17:58new crank from like cali's or uh eagle or all the people that'll sell you crank they they'll balance
18:05some neutral but they don't know the weight of the piston the way what kind of rod you're going to
18:10use
18:10what type of rings you're going to use and all that reciprocating weight is a variable that they
18:16don't know so they don't come fully balanced yeah they come i will say close but that's why somebody
18:24give me a hair i don't have very many i'm not pulling one of mine am i pulling on it
18:28yeah you can
18:29feel me pulling on it
18:32it's zero zero two two thousandths of an inch right see that zero zero two and a half almost
18:40almost three thousand of an inch she's got healthy hair my hair is like a thou and a half but
18:47your hair
18:48thickness is what the oil clearance is between a crankshaft rod journal and the bearing that's how much
18:54distance you want for the oil between the bearing and the journal two thousandths of an inch and
19:00that's on every engine ever made i mean does it change a little bit yeah but you know as a
19:04builder
19:05i'm telling you two thousandths of an inch is golden clearance on 90 of the bearings you'll ever do
19:12so what does that tell you if it ain't right uh those two metal surfaces come into contact with each
19:18other at you know a thousand five thousand rpm what's going to happen kaboom something's coming apart
19:27so i love that man i like that kind of accuracy you know makes you feel proud about your work
19:33you know when you spin up a motor and that thing will do seven grand and just hum and just
19:37no problem at all and it'll do it over and over again and hold together you're like man i'm good
19:43you know and that's a good feeling now that doesn't happen every day sometimes you get your
19:48butt kicked because you didn't have enough options for the obstacle you were faced so that's your
19:53only difficulty there you got to come up with more options okay this is our clean area we kind of
19:59we
19:59got some blasters in here this is a wet blaster come on in here and we just load things in
20:06it this is
20:07the media and it's it mixes with water and it does a great job and uh yeah there's there's the
20:16difference
20:17yeah yeah so it looks new yeah it that's that's what we're trying to do yeah in fact here's something
20:25that's just done i know it looks like it's been painted and feel it it it feels better than it
20:30did
20:30new everybody just you know i'm serious feel the aluminum feel smooth and yeah we call these the uh the
20:38tens on a motor and these these are these pans i can tell you know i know these motors but
20:44these are
20:45six seven power strokes so this is in every ford truck from 2012 on up but uh we're in the
20:51process
20:51of of putting this together uh and we'll clean them up and everything this is a chassis dyno behind you
20:58so we lift the car up on here put on the uh the rollers and go we drag race we
21:06don't have we just
21:07drag race it right here and the neighbors hate it these are all cars that you know are either waiting
21:14on motors or to be worked on and being a motor shop this is uh 80 of our work is
21:23motors and and yes we
21:24work on everything why not you know whose jeep that is i'll tell you he won't mind
21:33he's the probably the most the biggest conservative talk show radio host in in the world and you
21:39wouldn't know him but his name is glenn beck your parents will know him that's glenn beck's jeep he's
21:46got a ranch up in idaho and he brought that down for me to work on it this is a
21:50motor that we're putting
21:51back together this is their second motor interstate batteries had man they've had a tough year uh both
21:57of their trucks their motors went down and uh that's a six seven power stroke kind of an a different
22:04motor in in the sense that the intake most the time you know your exhaust is on the outside of
22:11an engine
22:13not on this one the intake is on the outside and the exhaust is on the inside and uh it's
22:21actually a
22:22pretty great design but you can kind of look at that and you can say how do they get that
22:28out and
22:29how do they get that in and and you'll see that everything's routed perfectly there's no bolts laying
22:35around that don't get put back and and that's that's what you want to do you want to be good
22:40man
22:41this industry needs uh most the time people think this industry has a bad rap rap for a lot of
22:49reasons and i don't think it's because mechanics are dishonest people at all i i i've never met a
22:56dishonest mechanic that blatantly and i've i've been around a long time and i really never admit
23:02i've seen some really crappy work i've seen some uh work that was done because they didn't know what
23:08they were doing but that doesn't make them a thief it means it means that they they they were probably
23:14doing something they shouldn't have been doing uh maybe trying to stretch themselves or you know
23:19they just made a mistake but remember this this is i think this is the truth the best that you
23:25can
23:25hope for if you make a mistake as a mechanic is that the customer thinks oh they tried
23:31but they're not very good and that's kind of sad what normally happens is they rip me off
23:41i gave my money and they my car is not fixed so these are four c's you have a condition
23:48you have a
23:49cause you have the correction and you have the confirmation this is and that's my saying most everyone
23:58forgets about the confirmation so let's walk through it you call up a doctor and you're
24:04crapping your brains out you got diarrhea you know that's your condition okay your cause
24:09you ate some crappy food at some rest you know mexican food it's just like it's burning you up
24:14man it's going through you okay so the doctor so the correction is you know take this medicine
24:21the confirmation is call me in the morning and see how you know if you feel any better that's as
24:26simple as i can make it let's talk about a car you have an overheat condition don't make the
24:31mistake of you diagnosing a system you don't know about so this is what i mean by that people call
24:35me up and they go how much for a water pump how much for this how much for that it's
24:40like you calling
24:40a doctor because you've been crapping your brains out with diarrhea and saying how much for a stomach
24:45transplant you know and you'd be as shocked at how many people want to do that to me and i'll
24:53tell
24:53you what's wrong i don't quote jobs over the phone because it's malpractice because i haven't looked
24:58at you you know well my brother that's a fry cook at denny's uh looks at it he says it
25:04needs a water
25:04pump well great i'm still not going to give you a quote what's your problem oh i have an overheat
25:11condition it's probably not a water pump unless it's leaking like it's uh you know but my point is
25:16remember in your career if you're going to do this get your service writer to tell you you want to
25:22know the condition my brakes are squealing you know um it's pulling to the right it's pulling
25:27to the left if you see on your ticket alignment you need to go say why am i doing this
25:33alignment
25:34you know and and and you want to know that you want to know what the condition is the cause
25:40is what
25:40you do that's your diagnosis the correction so you communicate that back to the service rider and then
25:47he he goes and sells it then the correction is obviously what you're doing to the car and then
25:52the confirmation is the most important you want to test that system go out and test drive it
25:56right refresh your test the cooling system if you opened it up replacing a water pump
26:00you know a good a good shop will teach you how to do the confirmation so remember that you know
26:06the
26:06four c's anybody want to take a shot at it good cause good good freaking awesome you got a good
26:20class here dude that's that's really good but if you think of that that's how you can fix anything
26:26in your life so we do hot rods we do you know this is a uh resto mod do you
26:34know you guys have heard
26:35that term resto mod yeah the biggest question i get asked about trucks on the internet what's your
26:40favorite truck and i'll tell you it would be a ford chassis with a cummins in it and the only
26:46way you
26:46can get that from ford is in an f750 you know but that that would be i think ford makes
26:52the best
26:53chassis i think dodge makes the worst chassis i think i i do prefer their engines are easy to
26:58work on the cummins is easy man that that duramax all those duramaxes oh my gosh they're a pain in
27:05the
27:05butt to work on but they all have their uh problems they all have their problems what do you think
27:12the
27:12number one issue with cummins is in here the number one issue on any diesel motor lack of maintenance
27:17that's it lack of maintenance that'll take down your motor i don't care if it's a diesel or gas that
27:22that'll take down your motor the quickest i really wish we had more work going in here
27:28i don't know what the heck is going on here this is a vertical hone a cnc hone and you
27:33go on you'll
27:34see this thing run on my website or uh my social media a ton but a block will go in
27:39here and we'll
27:40hone these are torque plates there's a bunch of different torque plates up here you guys understand
27:46what a torque plate is if you don't say i don't i just love people when they just say i
27:51don't you know
27:51i'm this guy somebody's yakking and they give me like an acronym or something and i don't know what
27:57it is i'm the guy go whoa what is that i'm not afraid of looking stupid yeah a torque plate
28:04let
28:04me tell you what a torque plate is this is a viper block it's a v10 see how there's five
28:09cylinders on
28:09each side i can tell it's a viper block but there's a torque plate in fact this is it what
28:16you want to do
28:17is your cylinder wall gets distorted when you torque a cylinder head on there it actually changes
28:25you know it like does this it's not round so you want to simulate the torque being put on that
28:31block
28:32and you do that with the torque plate so this simulates the head being torqued on there and
28:37you can still get in the hole so that's that's when they call it torque plate honing that's what they're
28:42talking about so these are connecting rods and this machine here different size mandrels you know
28:47we can go all the way down to that size hole or we can go all the way up to
28:55you know those size holes for just connecting rods you know because this is this is not this is a
29:02pretty
29:02small rod so this is our hone area this here this is a line home this is to do the
29:07main so these are
29:08mandrels so you see how they're different sizes and they have a range of about a half inch so we
29:16go to
29:17two two and a half you know two and a half to three three to three and a half and
29:22those are to do the
29:22main journals in a block so that they're perfectly straight and they're all the same size this is kind
29:28of like a tear down and clean area so this is uh this is a big wash cabinet you just
29:34put your stuff in here
29:38so you can wheel this out put something in there take you know if you wanted really you could put
29:44something that big in there if you needed to you could pull this whole thing out and just spin it
29:48just a big old dishwasher so here's a cummins that when it came in it was oily and greasy and
29:55all ratty
29:56looking but now we we baked all we baked it to 600 degrees if it's cast iron we'll go 600
30:03700 degrees
30:03then we'll move it over here with the cranes above you and then there's steel there's a paddle wheel
30:10in the bottom of that every you guys ever heard of shot blasting this is a shot blasting machine so
30:16this
30:16is a four axis mill i wish he had something in here and i'd show you how this works but
30:21uh this basically
30:23is a very large drill press and when i say a drill press you have your x-axis your y
30:30-axis
30:32your z-axis and then because this has this rollover so there's three axis
30:38mill and then your fourth axis is this is a roller of a fixture we can put the block in
30:43here we move
30:43this is called the tail stock we move this over and these go in the main and we can rotate
30:48the block
30:50so that's our fourth axis you know tools in this business measuring tools are never ending now look
30:57all right you guys are doing at least somebody's working here today good for you guys so this is
31:04our cylinder head shop this is where we do cylinder head work these look like volt wagons uh audi
31:09audi same thing same thing what we'll do is we'll disassemble ahead completely and then you can see
31:14we've resurfaced the deck here in one of our mills and made it you know you could shave in that
31:19thing
31:19if you wanted to and uh he's checking spring pressure all the springs have to pass a certain
31:27test and and so there's an opening pressure and then there's a closing pressure and it's different
31:33on every motor you got to look it up you know and these are the mills behind you that do
31:37all the head
31:38work these are engines that we've probably either been waiting to be tested and this is a sim test
31:43machine so the crane overhead we would lower the engine down in here we usually do this kind of
31:48stuff in like batches we'll say okay we're gonna sim test five engines and we'll just bang them out
31:56boom boom boom boom but you lower the engine down here you use a couple of bolts on the back
32:03end of
32:03the crankshaft you put this coupler in there there's a 20 horsepower electric motor in there and i can spin
32:09the motor up in this in this test stand i can do all these these eight leads here i can
32:15do a running
32:16compression test on it record it i can check my oil pressure i can vacuum check the cooling system
32:22so before we put that engine in a car send it out to a customer i've wet benched it so
32:28that i know it's
32:29got good equal oomph in the holes oil pressure and the cooling system uh is sealed up
32:37this is joey hello everybody come on in here
32:45joey is that guy i told he's one of my sons joey is a excellent motor builder he builds all
32:51our motors
32:52not all of them but 99 of them let me see do you guys see some things on that motor
32:57that just what's the
32:58first thing you see besides a motor condition cause correction confirmed there's some confirmation
33:07here you guys know about torque specs right yeah yeah you know all these bolts that you see dots on
33:13that's his confirmation that i torqued that bolt because you know maybe the phone rings or maybe
33:18somebody comes in here says hey joey come look at this you know i don't and he comes back and
33:23he goes
33:25did i do that you're starting over yeah you're starting over so you got to loosen them up and
33:30go through the re-torque sequence so everything you do as a mechanic if you want to be good figure
33:36out
33:36a way to confirm miles is he in here miles first thing you got to do is turn around here
33:43because
33:43they got to know where we stand about our f's you know there's see i told you i got every
33:48i got every
33:49alphabet letter cover faith family fishing and fast cars and we don't give an f about anything else
33:57i told you i you know i give i've given him the c's i've given him the o's i've given
34:01him the p's
34:02i gave him the f's and if you guys are lucky enough uh you know maybe you look 30 years
34:10from now you'd be
34:11lucky enough you'd be just like me and be able to work with your kids and and uh have the
34:17best life ever
34:19so that's it unless you guys got a question for me are you guys do you guys just do like
34:24engines and
34:25like transmissions and stuff or do you guys do also body work i used to have a body shop
34:32couldn't do it couldn't figure out you know there's there's another little business
34:37piece of advice i'll give you you might be really good at something but that does not mean
34:43you're elon musk and you can be good at a lot of things you know and i mean that i
34:50thought i could
34:51be i was like what's a body shop i get we got to paint some cars and fix some dents
34:56i couldn't figure
34:57out and i had it for 13 years and i never made money at it and i finally sold it
35:02and that's been about
35:04seven years now so we used to do it miles used to run the body shop tell them with uh
35:10hard evidence
35:12self-confidence confidence without evidence is delusion and that's not for me that's alex
35:20yeah the guy photoshops his abs he's delusional right he didn't now what would be the hard evidence
35:28the hard evidence would be the guy that the diet the exercise then he's got that self-confidence so
35:35don't do that to yourself you know there's a lot of people out there uh driving cars that they can't
35:41afford an oil change on that's not life you know that's not that's not life so yeah i drove a
35:48dodge caravan a blue one for 20 years i was fine what did i care i i was i was
35:57living the life
35:57i wanted to live didn't matter what kind of car i'm driving so seriously guys that i you know i
36:03have grandchildren now and i worry that this the social media stuff and that's how you guys probably
36:09know me um if there's good on it but man there's a lot of crap and i get lost in
36:17the crap too sometimes
36:18i'm and i'm like oh my god you know three and you know 30 minutes goes by and i'm that's
36:25lost life
36:27okay is that it is that it all right thanks guys it was really fun to have you i love
36:34doing i love
36:35doing these things i wish you the best man uh grow up and be my boys competition they need it
36:42good luck
36:42they see they're just like me
