00:00Prison sources say newly appointed Acting Commissioner Hayden Fort is due to proceed on pre-retirement leave in January 2026,
00:09which means the Prison Service will have to appoint a new Acting Commissioner in about six months.
00:15Outgoing Acting Commissioner Carlos Corraspi held the position for just over one year after being appointed in July of 2024,
00:24prompting the Prison Officers Association to once again call for reform.
00:29It's been happening. We had people sit, sometimes people get acting for two months, three months before they go home.
00:37It's just that this has not been public knowledge, but this is what has been our experience for the longest while.
00:47I have been asking for that we have, the Prison Service, has its own commission like the Police Service
00:57and that the Office of Commissioner of Prisons become an accounting position.
01:06And also, maybe we may have to look at the point of having those positions advertised externally
01:13and to attract possibly people who could hold the position for set periods of time.
01:20The Association is also responding to rumors surrounding a claim that Corraspi and another senior officer were allegedly sent on administrative leave.
01:30We don't have any information to that. We can't speak to feelings or hearsay or rumor based on the information we have.
01:40That is what we placed in the public domain.
01:44He, like any officer, he was sent on vacation leave.
01:49In fact, I am on vacation leave right now because I do, I, is in excess of the 90 days.
01:54So what of the other officer then, the other senior officer who is sent to have also been standing?
01:58I have no information about that.
02:01And you see, once again, so I have no information as to who is the senior officer and what it may be.
02:11Meantime, the Association is welcoming the new acting commissioner, despite only finding out about his appointment online.
02:18Did the Association just find out about this change in leadership or we are like everybody else?
