00:00so let's get started and recap what happened in the preseason last night looks like the dogs were
00:04barking at least in week one day one of the preseason but uh not a lot of barking going on
00:10right now in los angeles boy the chargers just seemingly going into every season have some sort
00:15of issue whether it's a holdout or an injury unfortunately a really big one happens with
00:19them yesterday pro bowl left tackle where sean slater is going to miss the entire season according
00:23to espn he suffered a patella tendon injury that he suffered in practice and he just signed a
00:28contract for years 113 million dollars including 92 million dollars guaranteed and is not going to
00:34be able to play at all this year a crucial component to not just their running game but also of course
00:39protecting their quarterback in justin herbert no word on who will replace him as of now as they get
00:46ready for their preseason game coming up meanwhile the chicago bears how about this they set a record
00:51nfl evaluation in terms of sale the current owners the mccaskey family and ryan families have reached
00:57an agreement to split the two percent stake that was previously owned by andrew mckenna the deal
01:02values the bears at a record nfl number of 8.8 billion dollars that's a valuation of what the
01:10bears are now again bears probably top third of the league in terms of finances and money in terms of
01:15teams but what does that mean the dallas cowboys are worth that probably is a fair question to ask 20
01:21million 30 million who knows all right nfl preseason game one you know the deal it's the ravens it's the
01:27preseason and they just keep winning games they opened up as a two-point dog they ended at about
01:32six and it didn't even matter baltimore wins this one final score 24 to 16 harbaugh now 41 and 21
01:40against the spread in the preseason balal cone ended up tearing his acl and mcl but it was a really
01:47good offensive output at least in the early part of the game for the baltimore ravens here's john
01:52harbaugh on what came out of the game in particular uh good night fun night seeing the guys compete
01:58seeing you guys fight make some plays a lot of young guys played well we can talk about all those guys
02:04uh fourth down stop at the end that was awesome and fun to watch and really proud of the guys uh
02:11bk is going to be out for the season it looks like uh he has a uh some torn ligament in his knee
02:17unfortunately so i'll just tell you that right now other than that i think we're in pretty good
02:21shape with injuries we had a couple things but you should be okay with and uh this guy right here man
02:27made a bunch of plays for us and got after it and uh we had big kick returns and uh we had we are
02:34defensive ends coming off the edge you got some sacks and got some uh tfl so a lot of good things to
02:39look at and a lot of things to work on meanwhile on the side of the indianapolis cold scary moment in
02:44the early part of the game as quarterback anthony richardson left the game it ended up being a
02:49dislocated finger which apparently is not going to sideline richardson for more than a few days
02:56of course daniel jones is battling with richardson for the starting job there neither quarterback all
03:02that impressive at least early on but here's steichen on the injury and richardson talked about
03:07it as well is it a dislocation for that dislocation uh they popped it back in um right now day to day
03:14so i mean what is he still like pain do you know like what he's dealing with right now all right you
03:20know what i mean it's a dislocation they pop back in i mean we'll see you know where it goes was there
03:24any apprehension about getting him out there with the majority of the starters not playing tonight
03:29yeah i think with that thing we had i mean the majority of the offensive line not obviously
03:33quentin and brayden um and bernie but we had a couple guys in there that'll be playing um felt
03:37good about ad out there tyler warren was out there um so we had some guys out there and what have they
03:43kind of told you about what's going on see this dislocated fingers to the side it looked like you
03:49knew pretty much right away that something was not right with it you know it was weird um
03:53how does it feel does it hurt is it swollen i mean it's a little swollen but it'll be all right
04:11it's tender right now it'll be a little bit more so in the morning but i'll be good
04:16daniel jones will start the next preseason game for the colts as was previously scheduled next week
04:22all right you never know when we're going to get a tie in the nfl and it happened in week one of the
04:26preseason that's right raiders seahawks and the return of pete carroll ends up being a 23 23 final
04:33in the game last night neither team particularly great early on in this one but in the end raiders
04:40came back and made it closer and pete carroll not particularly thrilled with the first half
04:45performance in his first game preseason as coach overall impressions obviously haven't seen the
04:52film but overall impressions please sir no i've already seen the film i got that done just now
04:55so i have everything in this steel trap right now um well we we started really poorly we had a really
05:03hard time i don't know why that stopped but the officials you know got us five times that we
05:09assessed penalties and there's a few other ones that they let go it was miserable looking first quarter
05:13um and you know we were kind of hung in the game as far as you know trying to win the game
05:18um we didn't run the ball very well in the first half we really didn't do much anything very well
05:22but we we stayed close and uh and so it was the opportunity for us to face that up and then come
05:30on back and see what you can do in the second half to finish the game and it was a marvelous second
05:34half for our guys as a team um we did so many cool things that we weren't able to do we ran the ball
05:39better we protected the quarterback better the quarterbacks made their throws the guys made their
05:43catches and gave us a chance to win the football game on the last play of the game and you know
05:47that's uh that's kind of all we can hope for you know but grant taught me that a long time ago
05:51and the eagles continue their run after super bowl champs they went again in game one of the
05:56preseason no jalen hurts they didn't need him eagles get a 34 spot on the board in the first game of
06:03the preseason tanner mckee backup quarterback 20 of 25 25 252 passing yards two touchdowns passing
06:11one touchdown rushing looks like he's one of the better if not the best backups in the national
06:16football league nick sirianni very impressed nick how did uh how do you think tanner played
06:22but pretty good but you know a little bit more as far as well he played good uh no he did a lot
06:31of good things uh went to the right place where the football was accurate um ran you know had
06:36really good operation him and kevin a lot of communication and and scott um yeah dude he did
06:41he did a really nice job um it was it felt good i feel like we were moving the ball which was always
06:46fun um obviously we'll watch film and you never you never really know until you watch film there's
06:52things that i got crap i missed that or whatever um but overall you know i moved the ball well had a
06:56lot of guys that made great plays um so the feeling is is good you joked uh when the eagles social media
07:02team showed you here you're mad in sport yeah that you wanted to show tonight you deserve higher than
07:06the 61 yeah i think you accomplished that i mean we'll see we'll let them decide um but yeah no i've
07:13had a lot of people come up to me and be like hey nice job 61 or whatever it was so yeah it's been
07:17it's been funny joke going around three games in the preseason tonight in the national football league
07:22lions and falcons starts it off for us tonight then shader sanders gets his first start browns
07:28panthers patriots commanders also 7 p.m east jimmy ward arrested texans defensive back for the second
07:37time in two months his status going into the season clearly in question micah parsons not traded did have
07:44a back issue didn't practice yesterday and also steelers defensive tackle cameron hayward all pro says he
07:50wants a new contract and won't practice in full well he gets one great to have sam mcquillen in
07:56from legal sports report we'll dive into the very latest on draft kings the apparent company of fan
08:01duel and we'll also hit on espn bet some numbers coming out let's get the latest sam is with us here
08:06on this friday ahead of a big weekend of course a lot of betting gonna go on this weekend on the
08:11preseason crazy people are out there sam they're gonna bet on the preseason they're gonna do it we
08:14know that so here we are uh let's start off with uh draft kings you have some numbers here in terms
08:20of total revenue which may not tell the entire story but does sort of give us an idea as to how
08:26much this company is worth yeah draft kings had a really really good quarter in the second quarter
08:34uh it actually broke a couple records sports betting wise it had the highest uh hold margin
08:39it had ever had in a quarter and it said it got really lucky so lucky in fact that it made about
08:4375 million dollars more than it expected to from sports from you know what we call these lucky game
08:49outcomes which is really important because as we've talked about these companies in the past you know
08:55q4 was one of the worst quarters ever from a sports betting standpoint i think nfl favorites won it
09:00almost a 75 percent rate which literally never happens that was the first time it ever happened and that
09:06really uh caused a big impact to these companies i think draft king said it lost you know uh about
09:11200 million in revenue just unexpected from that and of course that's stuff that can happen in sports
09:16betting things swing they go this way or that way but then you know q1 it was similar with march madness
09:21where you know pretty much all the favorites won there as well there was no big upsets and sports books
09:26really just got hammered so this quarter it finally swung draft kings way and other sports books that we'll talk
09:32about in a bit and it had a really really impressive uh quarter you know there was a ton of game sevens
09:37in the nba uh the finals as well as in hockey with the stanley cup finals went to a game seven
09:43and i think in both sports combined for about seven game sevens total so in this period uh you know the
09:48summer months where there's usually a lot less sports going on of course you know there's the u.s open
09:53there's uh you know horse racing but um there was more games quite frankly than usual um in the
09:58important sports like nhl and nba which really helped a company like draft kings expand their
10:03margins and um have quite a turnaround after a really bad uh couple of last two quarters at least
10:09from a sports betting standpoint so uh they're going to continue to lean more into the things
10:13that kind of helped them that quarter which no surprise more saint game parlays actually live
10:18betting was a really big bright spot as well it now makes up about 50 percent of all the money
10:23that draft kings takes so you know if you're a sports better and you're on the app you'll probably
10:27notice them pushing you or gearing you more towards live betting options you know of course
10:31they purchased a live betting operator called simple bet about a year ago and i think we're
10:36finally seeing some of those integrations come to life within the app and this is going to be
10:41really important ahead of football season right it's you know q3 you just mentioned uh there's got
10:45preseason going on but football season you know it's just it cannot be understated how much
10:50more significant that is to the sports books bottom line uh than an nba or an nhl so
10:56while investors were pretty stoked about or pretty happy about you know the results um you know
11:02they've put put the caveat out there that this isn't really going to matter until football season
11:06of course last football season was terrible draft kings is going to hope they can roll this momentum
11:10into the you know the upcoming one espn uh mostly making news this week because of this new
11:16partnership purchase with the national football league and ahead of that you have some projections as
11:23far as where they're looking at financially and it seems like for the first time sam in a while
11:27some positive news coming from their revenue yeah espn bet uh of course you know the the sports book
11:35that is owned by penn entertainment but licensed to espn they agreed to that deal for about two billion
11:41dollars two augusts ago uh like you mentioned espn is making a lot of inroads with you know the nfl
11:48and football ahead of the nfl season the espn bet app is actually going to have you know a new feature
11:53where it allows you to integrate your fantasy teams with your betting options but um beyond that you
11:58know executives came out this week and said they're actually projecting to essentially double their
12:02market share from last year which was about two percent of handle during football season you know
12:08to put that in context fanduel had about 40 draft kings about 40 as well so penn only having two
12:14percent last year was really not going to cut it they're projecting they might double that this
12:18football season that would be big news or would be really encouraging if it wasn't so small to begin
12:23with you know projecting just about three and a half percent to four percent it's not really what
12:28they hoped that they hoped for when they agreed to this deal and now that we have these things that
12:33are coming to life these integrations these fantasy football rosters being a part of it as well
12:37it's kind of surprising that they're not projecting more this football season maybe they just kind of
12:42realize that it's out of reach at this point but i think it's very telling as well because both sides
12:47do have an opt-out clause next august where if they don't reach it's been reported double digit market
12:53share by then then they can just walk away and we've heard penn talk about that as you know increasingly
12:58something that's on the table to maybe save them losses espn i wouldn't be surprised if you know
13:04they're kind of awash with the sports betting experience but the fact that they're only projecting
13:09four percent of handle this football season you know that doesn't leave much room or much time to
13:14increase that handle share for next august because again you know you have major league baseball and
13:19nhl and nba but football is really where it's going to make or break you if you're going to make these
13:23inroads so i guess it's encouraging that they're planning to double the market share but it's i don't
13:29think it's going to be enough yeah i would agree now this is a little surprising here as we end our week
13:35here with sports betting news uh flutter that's the parent company of fandle are they are they
13:40projecting numbers not as good as draft kings was because usually it seems like when one company does
13:45well the other one does too yeah flutter which owns fandle actually uh they said they had a pretty
13:52similar quarter to draft kings like you mentioned craig kind of where draft kings goes fandle usually
13:56moves the only real difference between the companies at this point is one is owned by a huge global
14:01betting king glomer and draft kings is very much still kind of in that startup mode where it's
14:06just the drafting sportsbook and just uh the draft kings online casino that make up the company where
14:11flutter has fandle and a bunch of other sportsbooks but they actually had a pretty similar quarter to
14:16draft kings they posted a record 16.3 percent uh gross sportsbook hold margin which is essentially the
14:22win rate uh from a sports betting standpoint but again like draft kings that came during these months
14:28where there's not as much betting going on handle growth didn't jump that much uh either so um i would
14:34say draft kings maybe had a slightly better quarter from a sports betting standpoint but you know
14:39investors are now looking at how is that going to roll into nfl season and i think actually what flutter
14:44has said out there about fandle is resonating a little bit better with analysts and investors they've
14:49been able to grow their handle a little bit more of a steady rate and because of you know the the way the
14:55company is structured because they have deals with other companies and own other brands they're able to
15:00mitigate some of those uh costs from high tax states as well probably a little bit better than draft kings
15:05you know both companies are going to have the surcharge in illinois the 50 cent tax per bet which is going
15:11to be passed down to customers uh draft kings is not raising their guidance because of that they kind of
15:16assume that they're going to lose money from this so they don't want to tell investors they're going to make
15:20more fandle has been able to kind of mitigate you know some of their costs with other deals and you
15:26know going into nfl season that's going to be really key especially as it navigates states like
15:30louisiana states like illinois where all these you know things that they don't want to have happen
15:35politically are happening so uh should be an interesting uh football season to say the less
15:39for both companies and i imagine they'll be kind of neck and neck lock and step with each other all
15:43throughout let's let's end our week uh sam with uh you know the news that has just been the same
15:49for these sports betting integrity companies and the data companies genius sports sports radar
15:55feels like every year they're you know adding more to their plate here it seems like these two
15:59companies are in a really good spot moving forward yeah definitely honestly if you want to play the
16:05online gambling sports betting market from a financial investing standpoint these are the best
16:10companies to go with right now like you mentioned they just keep adding to their portfolios
16:14as the industry grows they really don't have to worry about competing with other companies it's
16:19just genius it's just sport radar right here uh they have the market pretty much cornered they have
16:24all the deals with the nfl the mlb the leagues and they work with the sports books and they're really
16:29good at what they do which is betting technology and tracking technology so the demand is only going
16:34up and they don't have to deal with these things that you know the sports books do like high costs
16:38a business with stack of tax rates hiking up and everything like that so yeah it's just really
16:43sunshine roses for these companies right now and a great way to play um you know the gaming sector
