00:00Right away, as I sit down and look at the Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line,
00:05I just want to thank everybody.
00:08These all made me laugh based on what we were talking about in the crossover.
00:14And someone with 650 texted in, Willard's book is going to be titled Numbers Are Numbers.
00:21And that's absolutely true.
00:23And so that's perfect.
00:25It will not be titled Super Bowl Window.
00:29There's a few things we want to talk about here to start off the show.
00:32But can I ask, it sounds like you guys talked about this a lot yesterday, you and Ev.
00:37A little bit, yeah, a little bit.
00:38Can I get a definition here and just can we ask that question of everybody?
00:44You can call in.
00:46Are the Niners in a Super Bowl window?
00:48And what does that mean to you?
00:50Well, it means two things.
00:52First answer for me is yes.
00:54And the second answer to how are they is they have the two pieces that you absolutely have to have,
01:02which is starting quarterback who's more than capable, head coach who is really, really good.
01:07And so when I look at Super Bowl windows around the national football league,
01:13you want to talk about Buffalo and McDermott and Josh Allen.
01:17And he's a more than capable coach.
01:19Now, they haven't really done it in January, but he's a good quarterback.
01:24I look at Taylor and Burrow in Cincinnati and think, ah, this might be Super Bowl or bust,
01:29because I think that they're kind of getting tired of Zach Taylor if they don't get it done.
01:33I think about Baltimore with Lamar and Harbaugh.
01:36Absolutely.
01:37Mahomes and Andy Reid.
01:39You got to be bleeping me.
01:40Those are Super Bowl windows.
01:43Great quarterback, great coach.
01:45And I look at the Niners, and I see, yeah, you've got a great quarterback and a great coach
01:48and other pieces around those two key guys that are good enough to help you be a winner.
01:55I mean, I agree with you, but I think part of this, like any question,
01:59it's based on sort of like how we take that question.
02:04What is the perspective you use with that question?
02:06When I say someone's in a Super Bowl window, that doesn't mean I'm telling you,
02:10oh, like I think that they're definitely a candidate to win the Super Bowl,
02:15but there's a ticking clock on it, and then it'll suddenly be over.
02:20And I'm like, yeah, there is a ticking clock on Baltimore and their Super Bowl window.
02:25It's when Lamar Jackson doesn't play there anymore or loses a step.
02:30But we go deeper into that.
02:32Like when it's your team, like the Niners are.
02:34Like we know their cap, and we know, oh gosh, we've got this machination,
02:39and we've got parties extension coming, and this, that, the other.
02:43We go into all of that.
02:46And I'm like, I think that that's just, we overthink that stuff.
02:50So my answer would be yes, they're in a Super Bowl window,
02:53but I don't even know if that necessarily means the same thing for everybody who says it.
02:59To me, if you're a well-run organization, and you have a good quarterback,
03:06you're always in the Super Bowl window.
03:08Always.
03:10So when people go, oh, they've got about two years left.
03:13No, they don't.
03:14No, they don't.
03:15Right.
03:15And so many of the quarterbacks out there that you all would widely accept as in a Super Bowl window
03:23have not gone to a Super Bowl, have not won the games in January that Brock Purdy has won.
03:30Buffalo and Baltimore.
03:30Has not won the games in January that Kyle Shanahan has won.
03:34So why are they in a Super Bowl window?
03:37You just accept it because you know that Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson,
03:43now Joe Burrow has been to a Super Bowl, but you know that those players are good.
03:48And they are at the most important position in sports.
03:50I'm not telling you that Brock is as good as those guys, but he is an extended quarterback.
03:56It's no different to me than saying Jared Goff.
03:59Are the Lions in a Super Bowl window?
04:02Are they?
04:03Absolutely.
04:03Okay.
04:04They have a good quarterback.
04:05He's making over 50.
04:07He's won games in the playoffs.
04:09He's been to a Super Bowl with a different team.
04:12You put the right things around him.
04:13You get a good coach.
04:14That team can win the Super Bowl.
04:16And that should be the situation as long as Jared Goff is young enough and playing in Detroit.
04:22And it's your job as the organization to move the chess pieces around every year
04:26and make that work for that player.
04:28That's the way I define it.
04:30For me, it's quarterback and coach and, like you're saying, organization.
04:33So Philadelphia, are they in a Super Bowl window?
04:36Of course.
04:36Now, they've got the Super Bowl hangover that maybe they have to square off against.
04:41Well, they won, though.
04:43The Super Bowl hangover is usually the team that lost.
04:45It is, but if you look at teams who've gone back-to-back, the last team to go back-to-back was the Patriots, I believe.
04:52And it's been a little bit of time since you've had a team go back-to-back.
04:56So I do think that the hangover actually applies to the winner as much as the loser because you play into February and the disease of me.
05:05Now everyone wants to get their chicken, and that's what Charverius Mooney Ward talked about in the Mike Silver piece,
05:10how all the Niners wanted to get their money, and those who didn't get their money were feeling some type of way.
05:17So the Super Bowl window for me, even the Rams, and I'm looking at their run, they won the Super Bowl.
05:23They had a good year, then they had a terrible year, but then after that, boom, back-to-back, playoff seasons.
05:29Good coach, good organization, good quarterback.
05:32That's a team in the window for me.
05:34I mean, it's fun to almost go through the whole list, and let me ask you, like Super Bowl window?
05:41Or like, could you see this team winning a Super Bowl?
05:44I mean, are the Packers in a Super Bowl window?
05:47I don't think so.
05:48No?
05:49They might be.
05:50I haven't seen enough of their quarterback and their coach.
05:53They haven't quite gone deep enough, but yeah, Washington would be the other one.
05:58Washington, Super Bowl window, I think everybody would say yes.
06:02What about the Chargers?
06:04Super Bowl window?
06:06I mean, maybe.
06:07Those to me are the maybes.
06:08Is Denver about to start a Super Bowl window?
06:12We will see.
06:13I don't know if we've seen enough from their quarterback yet.
06:15Like, the coach has won a Super Bowl.
06:17The quarterback had a good year.
06:18And that's where I'm going to be a little bit more hesitant with Jaden Daniels as well,
06:23because C.J. Stroud, they had a great year, his rookie year.
06:27And then last year, they kind of all collectively stepped back a little bit.
06:31Yeah, no doubt.
06:31So, I'm interested to hear what people think.
06:35Like, how do you even process that phrase?
06:37Super Bowl window.
06:39Jonathan in the city, here on Willard and Dibbs.
06:42Hi, Jonathan.
06:42What's up?
06:44Good afternoon, guys.
06:46Hello, Dibbs.
06:46Hey, Mark.
06:48Congratulations, Mr. Lovely Christy.
06:51Thank you, Jonathan.
06:52Boy, it's tough getting your name changed, but I'm working on that.
06:57All right.
06:57So, the window, I think, kind of closed last year, right?
07:00That's why they didn't make the playoffs.
07:01But I'm not saying they can't open it back.
07:03This schedule, the way it's looking, it could be a blessing and a curse.
07:07It's a blessing.
07:08Like you guys alluded to earlier, a lot of question marks.
07:11If they're able to answer that question with flying callers and pass it with a nice grade,
07:17they can find themselves a playoff.
07:18And window open, crest for six, and on we go.
07:22But, you know, they got a 30-year-old running back.
07:24They're really going to use him as a bell cow?
07:26Hopefully not.
07:27But the left tackle is kind of old, too.
07:30And hopefully he stays healthy.
07:32Or do they have, you know, a good backup plan?
07:35And also, Brock, man, is he going to be able to adjust?
07:38So, now that the book is out, the defenses are going to be crowding the middle because he's always throwing, you know, inside the numbers.
07:45Hopefully he's going to be able to adjust.
07:47Hit some, you know, not all the time, but, you know, hit a pass or two or maybe three a game.
07:52So, deep throws is just to keep the defense honest, you know, maybe try to get some outside-the-numbers routes to completions.
08:01And also the defense, man.
08:03Hopefully they pick some guys that are going to be studs.
08:06If they do that, man, they can find themselves in the playoffs again and window open.
08:11If not, long road ahead.
08:13Donovan, thanks.
08:14I mean, that's kind of like what are we talking about if the Super Bowl window closes,
08:18but then you're allowed to just open it right back up again.
08:20So, you know, that's kind of what I'm getting at.
