00:04It doesn't mean like, oh, darn it, I turned 40 last week.

00:08But if you haven't turned 40 yet, that's kind of the marker we put
00:12of you either have never seen the 49ers win a Super Bowl
00:15or when you did, you were just a little pup.
00:18And so these playoff runs feel different.
00:21And they do, it's only one game that they've won,
00:24but it does feel a little 2010 Giants-ish to me
00:29because they were underdogs every round.
00:32I know people will say, and like Lucas said this earlier,
00:35he goes, you know, that 2010 Giants team,
00:38they were a dog of a pitching staff.
00:40I mean, Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain and this kid,
00:45mad bum, who nobody knew because he was 21 years old,
00:50but he came and he dealt.
00:52And so that's true.

00:54Yeah, but hold on.
00:56Let's not act like this Niner team,
00:58even in its current form,
01:01doesn't have at least one wing of the team

01:36In 17 drives, they have four three and outs.

01:41They've thrown three picks.

01:46They have two times where they turned it over on downs.
01:49They've made two field goals,
01:51and they've scored two touchdowns and 17 drives.
01:53Let's focus on the three and outs for a second.

01:55Of those four, how many were a week and a half ago?
01:58The opening drive, when after they got the ball back,
02:02three and out, and then they went three plays and scored.
02:05You're down seven, nothing.
02:06And already your defense had been on the field
02:08the entire first quarter.
02:09You get the ball back three and out.
02:10Three and out.
02:11And then they go down, they miss a field goal.
02:13Then you go six plays, you turn it over on downs.
02:16You finally get points on the board.
02:17Your only points before the half,
02:19you went eight plays, 30 yards was your drive.
02:24That was your drive.
02:24Quote, unquote.
02:25And you go down into the half, you're down.
02:28Then you come out, you go punt, punt, pick downs.
02:30Any three and outs in the second half.
02:31Yes, your second possession, three plays, nine yards.
02:34So three of the four were in the second game, the loss.

02:40But even at that, the thing that's so frustrating
02:42is the one drive you had, seven plays, 64 yards,
02:45it ended with the McCaffrey bobble pick.
02:47With the bobble pick, yeah.
02:48So here's the reason I asked that question.
02:50To me, that's what we're talking about this Saturday.

02:59I mean, it'd be great.

03:33This defense is phenomenal.
03:35But you have got to hold the ball for a second.
03:38You have got to get a first down or two just about every time that you get the ball.
03:43And at least flip the field because where drives start now, I know it didn't because the Seattle Seahawks went, you know, for it on fourth down.
03:54I know the Niners' first drive was like inside their own 10-yard line.
03:58But often, these drives are all starting out at the 30 and 35-yard line.
04:02Dude, you get one first down, you're punting them down to their own 10.
04:06That's huge in a game like this because Seattle is not.
04:11And Darnold and their run game, they're not dynamic.
04:13They have one dynamic player on offense.
04:15His name is Jackson Smith and Jigba.
04:17Now they sure look dynamic in week 18.
04:18They did.
04:19Because you couldn't tackle.
04:20Because you couldn't tackle them.
04:21To your point, week one, you come out and you hold.
04:25They punt.
04:26And I think it was a classic Skymore fair catch arena with the five.

04:32You come out and you go 14 plays, 95 yards for the touchdown.
04:37And you know what the big plays were made by?
04:40Ricky Persall.
04:41He caught a 26-yarder.
04:43He caught a 13-yarder.
04:44I'm looking at my notes.
04:45And then George Kittle.
04:47You Kittle from five.
04:48Purdy with a scramble on second and 14.
04:50But you went 95 yards down the field.
04:53You scored a touchdown.
04:54To your point, complimentary football.
04:57You had the ball forever.

05:00And then the second time you played him, you finally get it punt.

05:04And then you turn it over on downs after getting 24 yards on six plays.
05:09You had no Uncle Moe, which you've got to have to protect this overmatched defense.

06:24I just want to say three things about how I feel about this upcoming game.
06:29I think there were three plays in the Seattle game that if they would have went our way,
06:34we could be having a whole different conversation.
06:37And Seattle could be coming to Levi's Stadium this weekend.
06:40It was the dropped interception.

06:43It was the McCaffrey, you know, he bobbled it.
06:49And then the interception.
06:51And then the third and 17 when Kenneth Walker got that first down.
06:57I mean – and I'll tell you, when I was watching the Eagles game last weekend –

07:45And then it turned during the second half.

08:50And at that point, I was like, oh, boy, this defense, they can't stop a nosebleed with a tourniquet.
08:55He's not wrong, but the Seahawks could say the same thing.

09:00Like, they missed two field goals.
09:04They moved the ball all the way down to first and goal inside the 10 on their opening drive.
09:11They decided, and this is their fault, but they decided to go for it.

09:18I am not going to sit here and say that the Niners could have or should have won that football game
09:23against Seattle two weeks ago.

09:58Greg clearly said this was not some sort of a schematic overwhelm in favor of the Seattle Seahawks.
10:07What this was was that the 49ers that night were just overwhelmed physically.
10:14They were physically beaten by the Seattle Seahawks.
10:18You can take that however you want, but he added, he goes,
10:22Usually, when that happens, and then you play that team again in the near term, it doesn't repeat itself.
10:32It usually doesn't happen.
10:34And, don't forget, some of these people who are physically overwhelmed, they're not even going to be in this game.
10:39Tatum Bethune and Fred and Dee Winters and Austin Pleasance, who are all fit.
10:45They're not in this game.
10:47Trent Williams is now who you need to physically overwhelm.
10:50Good luck with that.

10:52So, you have a chance to physically overwhelm Tom Gess, who didn't play much at all in that game.
10:57They're allowed to do it again.
10:59But Greg Cosell said this.
11:00Charbonnet and Walker combined for 33 for 171, and the Seahawks have not been a great running team this year.
11:09So, that was a game where they just dominated.
11:12They were able to get to the edges in the run game, which was a big problem in that game.
11:17That is more of a tactical thing that can be corrected.
11:21But, overall, I thought on both sides of the ball that they were just physically handled.
11:26And, normally, when that happens, normally, guys, it doesn't happen again in a short period of time.
11:33Yes, it's just a little ray of hope from somebody who watches them all.
11:38And, I'm looking at the notes on Seattle's first touchdown, because you mentioned it.
11:43Seattle marches all the way down.
11:44They go for it.
11:45They don't get it.
11:46Three and out.
11:47Here's a punt.
11:47Wallow with a face mask.
11:49Seattle's at your 35 drive start.
11:51Three plays later, Charbonnet, 27-yarder.
11:55Brown blocked.
11:56Mustafa couldn't tackle.
11:57Those are my notes.
11:59And, you remember, he scoops around the outside.
12:01Brown gets caught in the wash, and Mustafa has a bad angle touchdown.
12:04So, that wasn't so much schematics.
12:06It was bad tackling.
12:08And, Jair Brown, I mean, again, not to make it all about, like, he's not even going to be in this game.
12:13Right.
12:13So, you're talking about, and that's the, do you remember the show we did last week where I was like,
12:20the recency bias conversation, where I'm like, I feel like the Niner fan base is frozen.
12:28We're frozen coming out of that Seattle game, and I get it.
12:30It's emotional, and you, my, they got handled.
12:33Yep.
12:33But, everybody came out of it and went, well, Niners aren't going to beat the Eagles, because
12:37that's the Niners.
12:39Well, aren't we doing the same thing in reverse in ways right now?
12:42We're recency biasing ourselves into thinking that they can win this game?
12:45I don't think so, because I'm not sitting here telling you that, oh, the Niners are definitely
12:49going to win this week.
12:49Like, I, this is going to be really hard.
12:52I, I have the same sort of, like, level of, oof, this is one hell of an assignment.
12:58I'm right there again, but I'm just, the message that day is true again, which is every damn
13:05week and every matchup, new building, new people, new day, it's not going to look the
13:12same.
13:13And I think that.
13:14It doesn't mean the Niners are going to score more points.
13:17Hell, it might get worse.
13:19Can't get much worse.
13:20Maybe they'll lose 41-3 this time.
13:23But I, I, I just, I don't think that what we saw, how many days ago?
13:29It will be 14 by the time they play.
13:31Yeah, so that means it's only, uh, like 11 right now.
13:34Like, I don't think what we saw 11 days ago, I don't think that that we're going to just
13:39see a redo at all.
13:41I agree with that in part.
13:43I think that looking at every drive between the two teams this year, Niners offense against
13:47Seattle's defense, there's a definite trend.
13:51And the trend is, boy, it is really hard in general to move the ball.
13:55They have a 95-yard drive for a touchdown, a 68 for a touchdown.
14:00They had a 64 last game with a pick.
14:02They had a 57, thank you Jake Moody, for missing.
14:05And a 53 with a Moody miss.
14:07So those are points in week one that were there and they didn't get.
14:11And the last game, which will be two weeks removed from this game, you didn't really
14:15have that.
14:16And so for me, looking at Seattle on the year, they gave up scores on 28.7% of their drives.
14:23The Niners have scored on 23.5 against Seattle.
14:26So Seattle does this to just about everybody.
14:29The one thing that I think will be different is what Greg is talking about, where schematically
14:35they don't run like they did, and they did what they did in large part because you missed
14:39tackles.
14:40So if that gets buttoned up, and one thing that I'm kind of excited about for the Niners
14:44is the Kendricks and Wallow freshness factor.
14:48These guys are not playing their 20th game.
14:50So they come in off a great game, and also they're a lot fresher.
14:55They haven't played that much football.
14:56Hey, which one of them plays if Fred Warner does play?
14:59Kendricks.
15:00Kendricks plays, I think.
15:03But, you know, and maybe you end up going to some three linebacker spots.
15:07The internet thinks that Fred's playing.
15:10Of course.
15:11Now, the internet also thinks there's an electromagnetic field outside of Levi's Stadium that's messed
15:15with everybody for the last 30 years.
15:18So I didn't say the internet was smart, but the internet's looking at video of practice
15:24today.
15:25Listen, I'll just tell you this.
15:27We're emotional beings.
15:29When you look at that, it's pretty hard not to get excited.
15:33He's moving pretty good.
15:35On Fred and Kendricks, I will say Kendricks was the green dot last week, which means he's
15:40the one that's, you know, given the calls to the rest of the defense.
15:43That's what Fred does.
15:44So, I mean, you could obviously take that away from Kendricks, but who knows?
15:48And, Grandy, I wonder if you would kind of share with everybody what you texted earlier
15:53today that I think was mainly about Fred and George, which is how that sort of affects,
16:00and again, we're talking mainly to the younger fan, and that means anybody who, I guess, you know,
16:08whatever hasn't turned 40, I still think you and I are young, but anyway, anybody who hasn't turned 40,
16:14who maybe hasn't really experienced a Super Bowl, but then again, maybe this is for everybody,
16:20because even if you have experienced the Super Bowl, there's this, is it maybe a waning type
16:27of a feeling that is specific to Fred and George, and how many chances those two might have left,
16:36if any, to get a ring in a Niner uniform?
16:39Yeah, it's like all the injuries that have happened this year, but I think the one that's really
16:42made me think this and feel this way the most is George, because his injury happened at such
16:47a stage in the season, and it's such a devastating injury that it's probably going to cost him all
16:51of next year, and who knows what he looks like when he takes the field again, and my Niner's
16:56fandom experience has been marred by guys that I love to watch failing to win a ring.
17:02That's been my Niner's experience.
17:04That's been the peak of my Niner's experience, is feeling bad for those legends like Frank Gore,
17:08like Joe Staley, like Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman, and all those guys, and it just kind
17:14of struck me this week, and I hate that my brain has gone this way,
17:17because this is a feel-good week for the Niners, but my thought is, I don't know if George Kittle
17:22is going to get another chance like this to maybe win a ring as a 49er, and the prospect
17:27of that being the reality again for me as a Niner fan is terrifying, and so frankly, I don't
17:36really care about, well, they're a seven-point underdog, and they got to then, if they win
17:40this game, they got to go to LA and take on the Rams or whatever, like I don't even care
17:44about any of that.
17:45I'm just living in the moment saying, all right, this is an opportunity to where I don't
17:50have to look back on this era and be like, man, again, we couldn't get those guys a ring.
17:54It sure would be cruel if Kittle, who famously, against the Chiefs the first time, had that
18:02video where he's like, I will be back here, I will be back here, and then he did get back
18:06there, and it was against the exact same team, and then the same thing happened.
18:10It was almost worse this time around, because it was even closer to an opportunity, and then
18:15what if they make it for a third time, and he's got to watch it from like a wrestling
18:22ring or something like that, or whatever.
18:25Or a suite with a bottle of tequila.
18:26Yeah.
18:27Well, that'd be fun.
18:28And that would be the...
18:29I'd like to watch it that way.
18:30Yeah, no doubt.
18:32And it's just an interesting one, especially if you put Christian in there, Christian and
18:36Trent and George, and you start to think, even use check, like how many years they have
18:41left, and can you get in there and make it happen for them?
18:45Because your quarterback is young, and he's going to be here, and it looks like the coach
18:48isn't going anywhere.
18:50I mean, he's only going to be here now in year nine, so it looks like their windows are
18:55going to be still open, but the older guys, yeah, this may be it for George Kittle.
