00:00The PNM-Tobago Council is calling for the immediate dismissal of Hanif Benjamin, Director of Social Protection within the Farley-Augustin-led THA,
00:11following him being formally charged with two sexual offenses under the Children's Act involving a child.
00:18Mr. Benjamin currently holds a senior position responsible for overseeing vulnerable populations in Tobago.
00:26The PNM-Tobago Council states that to have someone facing such grave charges employed in the capacity is not only untenable,
00:35it is dangerous and disrespectful to the people of this island.
00:40The PNM claims Hanif Benjamin was appointed without any formal, transparent or merit-based recruitment process.
00:48Instead, he was handpicked and installed in a sensitive, high-level position in the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection
00:57by passing numerous competent and qualified Tobagonians who were never given a fair opportunity to apply or to be considered.
01:07The PNM-Tobago Council is demanding a public explanation from Chief Secretary Farley-Augustin regarding the process used to hire Mr. Benjamin.
01:17It is also calling for the implementation of CLER, Accountable and Transparent Hiring Practices for all senior positions in the THG,
01:27especially in roles involving the care of children and vulnerable citizens.
