00:00hey welcome back back back back back back what's up everybody welcome back to the one body podcast
00:08i am your co-host juice and i am toya welcome back to episode three today we have a fun
00:17slash informative podcast for you all yeah this is one um again all of the
00:22comments that we get we try to make into podcasts so this is a big one
00:27you might notice about a title um this might be interesting to a lot of you just because
00:31um this is the reason you probably fell in love with our workouts um with our workouts we try to
00:37come off as not intimidating we try to come off as fun and we want you to look at working out as an
00:44experience and not just something that you have to kind of like struggle through just to get to your
00:48goals so today's podcast is all about um modifications um and and also why modifications
00:56um can be more effective for you right because sometimes people think modifications just means
01:02um easier easier less than right but that's not the case and we'll get into it uh as we get into
01:09this topic today yeah so super quick housekeeping um the first thing uh we have one-time purchases
01:15available on our app so all of the programs and challenges that we have in the app again we just
01:22wrapped up the summer ready challenge but all of the programs and challenges that we've done in the
01:27past you can have available for a one-time purchase and no subscription required so if you were trying
01:34out if you wanted to try out one of these programs and not have a monthly subscription you can do that
01:40we will drop the link in the show notes um but yeah if you would want to try out the six week
01:44summer ready program the follow along or the circuit version or some of the other programs will drop
01:49those one-time purchase links available now on our app you'll still have to download the app but
01:55there's no subscription so that is available and then also our one body la lululemon merge we'll
02:02also drop the link to that as well get you some one body la merge and great quality that you can
02:09work out in live in move in grocery shopping all the fun things yeah and on social media be sure to
02:14share uh some of your gear with us if you got some clothes or some gear uh share it in your stories
02:20and we'll try to repost it when we see it keep sharing it too sometimes we don't see it so
02:24but that's pretty much it uh go get the app go get the one-time pro purchase programs i'm super excited
02:31about them again we saw some crazy results uh with the summer ready challenge so if you stay consistent
02:37stay on top of your nutrition man you're gonna feel good about yourself in six weeks so
02:40uh let's get into it let's not waste any time let's do it our kiddos sleep right now so we're
02:45trying to squeeze in a nice little podcast today so uh today's topic is about um modifications
02:52being effective yep modified doesn't mean less effective say it again modified doesn't mean
03:00less effective and this is one more time i don't think they i don't think they heard it you might
03:05have to make it into a song modified doesn't mean less effective so we wanted to do this one because
03:11we get a lot of comments on the videos with people saying that they felt discouraged because they
03:18couldn't do the advanced version or um people saying that they they don't want to do the modified
03:25because they want to push themselves and they they couldn't get through the whole workout but they
03:29really wanted to do the advanced so it kind of seems to us that people may think that they have
03:36to strive to do the advanced in order to get in a great workout or that i've even had people say to
03:42me referencing me in the comments like why aren't you doing the advanced i know you should be able to do
03:49the advanced or you're strong why are you doing the modified or someone's even emailed us to say
03:54you are showing young girls that they can only do the modified so we want to address that too by
04:01first of all there is nothing wrong with doing a modified version which again like he said we'll get
04:07into but second keep in mind that there are multiple reasons why people might be doing the
04:13modified so for those that don't know i have lupus and so some days i wake up where my joints might be
04:20flared my wrists might hurt to where i can't put a lot of pressure onto my wrist mostly it affects
04:25push-ups so if we're filming a workout that has push-ups in it or power push-ups i'm gonna do the
04:31modified so that might leave me doing the modified on a filming day that day right it does not mean
04:38that i'm i'm very strong very capable i'm very capable um but that day i might just need to do the
04:43modified but also there's lots of videos where i'm doing the advanced just want to throw that out
04:47there too um so yeah we just want to get into why modified doesn't mean less effective and why you
04:54can still get in a great workout without shooting for the mod or the advanced version um and then
04:59reasons why you might modify even if you are way more than capable of doing the advanced and then also
05:05lastly we'll get into times that you might shoot for the advanced and when it might be time to gear
05:12away from the modification for sure for sure so i think we should start off by referencing our workouts
05:18because that's kind of what we're speaking of especially the comments that we get and the reason
05:23i wanted to emphasize that at the beginning is because if i have to say something multiple times
05:27that means we get multiple comments we might have a comment right now talking about modifications or
05:31is it like she said somebody who's discouraged that they can't do the advanced or um there are people
05:37who think that it's not as effective or and this is also why people ask about calorie burn too like
05:42i've seen people ask if i did the modified version how many calories would i burn right and we're here
05:48to say like when we design these workouts specifically we create modifications just to honestly increase our
05:56um demographic right we want as many people to be able to do these workouts as possible yes there are
06:02some workouts where yes they are more advanced and not really tailored toward people who are beginners
06:07who who can't move as well but for the most part you fell in love with our workouts just because you have
06:13options right and when we do modified versions within our workouts that doesn't mean you follow one version
06:21or the other right because there may be exercises in the advanced part that you can do just fine and you may be
06:27just limiting yourself just because you're solely following on one on one exactly right so we design
06:33these workouts to where you can flip back and forth so um within those previews of each workout and you can
06:39see that toy is doing if there's a lunge in most cases she's doing some type of modification or split
06:45squat or even push-up you y'all know kind of what exercises right need some type of modification so you can
06:52make those uh make that judgment based on uh whatever exercise that it is so this is why we also
06:58say to try to look through the workout first to see what you can do yeah and then that way you know
07:03how to attack it a lot of people which is crazy i don't like to do it but a lot of people just go
07:07into it blind and then you get to a point where you're stuck like oh i don't know what to do i'm just
07:11going to follow the modify and then you're kind of limiting yourself but in the same breath that doesn't
07:15mean it's less effective just because you did the modified version yeah so let's get into some reasons
07:21that you might need to do the modified even if you are let's say you're super strong you know like
07:26most workouts that i begin i go into it thinking i'm probably able to do all of this right then like
07:32you said an exercise might come up where i'm like oh let me just modify that so you have an
07:36understanding of your body and what you might need to modify and where you can push but for example
07:42you might have an injury that you're not trying to just be stagnant or stationary through your injury
07:48applaud you um and you're trying to do what you can do so it there might be an injury that you have
07:55where you might say um for example will use juice and his achilles um where he might need to do things
08:01seated so his upper body is still capable of moving he's still capable so he might be able to do a super
08:08heavy push press right but if he has to do seated upper body now that takes away the ability to use his
08:14legs where he needs to do just a strict press he can't do a push press he might need to modify and
08:19go down on weight right so you might have an injury that you're nursing where you might have to modify
08:25even though you're able to do the more advanced version but right now just to be um on the safe side of
08:33your injury you might need to modify um and this could be day to day for example if i have a lupus flare
08:39or my joints are flaring up i may not be able to do power push-ups i may need to do an elevated
08:44push-up or i may not be able to do um you know as heavy as i usually can so you might just wake up
08:53one day be you know i need to modify today and that's okay it doesn't mean you have to do it for
08:57every workout so this would be a day where don't force the advanced version right and kind of getting
09:03into it's not less effective if i were to try to do power push-ups that day what's a power push-up
09:08a power push-up is like a plyometric push-up like coming off the ground in a push-up almost like
09:13jumping push-up push-up you do when you push up and clap your hands yeah yeah yeah so if i wake up that
09:19day trying to do the advanced version which i can do a power push-up but that day it would be less
09:25effective for me to try to do that because one i may injure myself i may just make the joint pain worse
09:31but two i also am not going to be able to get in as many reps as i usually would be able to get in
09:37and if i were just to do the modified version just doing regular push-ups i can slow it down i can
09:43control it and i can get in more efficient reps so even though i can do the advanced that might be a day
09:49where it's more effective for me to listen to my body and get in a more efficient workout by doing
09:55the modification sure and kind of a look behind the scenes like there are some mornings where
10:00we might even have a particular exercise plan and i'm talking about for the advanced version
10:05and i'm like hey yo that leg day i did yesterday is killing me let's switch this exercise or i i will
10:12even regress the exercise and then she'll do even a more regressed version of the original exercise that
10:18we kind of planned for so sometimes what you see is a modified version of what we originally you know
10:23what i mean and that would be for recovery so you might be focusing on more recovery that day yeah
10:28so for me i was just protecting myself in the sense of i just need to recover in certain areas
10:33let me modify it in a way that i can make it effective for this workout um but y'all will never
10:38know you know what i mean so modifications comes with even people who are more advanced i think a lot
10:44of people think advanced people only do advanced things and i made a post about this on my instagram
10:50um at juicet in texas at juicet in texas um i'll put it right here um but i made a post about um
10:57why people should train like athletes and usually when people think training like athletes they think
11:03like super dynamic things super um more advanced which is true but at the end of the day they're
11:09training for sport um but a lot of times with athletes in their programs they are more um dialed down
11:16with a foundation right so they start with super foundational exercise so in the off season for a
11:22lot of athletes they're doing a lot of simple things squat focus on mobility form it's not focused on
11:28really dynamic sport specific stuff just because they're trying to get back to the basics and focus
11:33on injury prevention right that's the biggest thing that most athletes have to worry about is they're not
11:38worried about their athletic ability in a lot of cases they're not even trying to get more speed or get
11:44more they're just trying to maintain what they have and try to do it in a way that's preventative
11:48of injury so a lot of times athletes train very very basic i i mean i've been through multiple
11:55programs where we start off so basic to where it's almost boring but you once you get deeper into the
12:01program you understand why you go through those foundational movements because those is what have
12:05has to stick the fundamentals have to stick in order for you to do those more dynamic things so
12:10when it comes to especially our workouts and trying to figure out what it is that you want to do think
12:16of it like what is going to help me get through this workout more efficiently and if it's a HIIT
12:20workout which version should i follow to where i know i can be efficient and go at and move at some
12:25pretty good speed you know what i mean yeah and then that kind of brings me to another reason you
12:29might modify especially in HIIT workouts is your location so when i do a HIIT workout at the gym
12:35i usually am more plyometric like really high intensity but at home we're in an apartment where
12:43i can't even like mountain climbers you know like we've had people hit the ceiling like you know so
12:49you want to be aware of your location too so for example in a HIIT workout if we've got jump squats you
12:55may not be able to jump squat if you're in an apartment or in a place that um you're not able to do that
13:01and so that's where you might do speed squats instead you know so you're still able to kind of
13:07get some high intensity going but you're not able to do the plyometric version so even though i can do
13:13a jump squat there might be a time where i have to take it out and modify so um yeah injury prevention
13:20location recovery those are some ways that you might um have to modify it and so just because a workout
13:28has like for example jump squat or a plyometric exercise that doesn't mean that day like oh i
13:34can't do this workout this would be a great day where it's okay to modify and don't feel like oh i
13:41couldn't do the advanced i'm you know i'm discouraged because i couldn't do the advanced today no there
13:46might be days where your body is trying to tell you don't do that to help you again prevent injury or
13:52help you recover um so it's important to listen to your body but also understand that when you're
13:58listening to your body you're actually being more efficient and helping your progress and helping
14:04your goals because you're listening to your body preventing some of those things that might happen
14:07if you were to force doing the advanced exercises yeah and there's again we mentioned this before
14:12i mentioned before um there's been times where um this is when we were filming at the warehouse
14:18and i remember toy was going through like some sinus sort of headache migraine things and we had like
14:24wood choppers in the workout and i remember and we would kind of rehearse each exercise before just
14:30to make sure we're on the same page and she started doing them she was like started seeing stars yeah
14:34and we made a modification you know i mean whether it's me making a specific modification
14:40like her modification or we just change the exercise again modifications can just be depending on the
14:47day yeah you might be it might be a day where you're nauseous or dizzy or low energy and you don't
14:52want to overexert yourself and do high knees right you might just march in place right just simple
14:58modification doesn't mean it's less effective you're just doing whatever it is for your particular
15:02circumstance absolutely yeah and kind of getting into the next section like you mentioned earlier
15:07majority of you have mentioned loving the workouts because it gives you options um and even there might
15:13be times where we're not even presenting a modification but one of us may be going at a different pace so you
15:18feel less intimidated and able to go at that pace too so it may not even be the exercise necessarily
15:24that you're modifying sometimes you're just modifying the pace too but there are times where it is more
15:30appropriate to do the advanced and it would be more efficient to do the advanced um so we saying all of
15:37this to say we also don't want you to hold yourself back and so there might be days where you've been doing
15:44the same video for a while and you're like i kind of want to try the advanced version now and there might
15:49be times where you feel like you know i never saw myself doing a jump squat which plyometrics are great
15:54for you at any age um but you might give it a try and then you might only be able to do a couple of jump
16:01squats and then you fall back to the speed squat right so we i think you mentioned this already we don't
16:07want you to feel like it's all or nothing you don't have to say i'm only doing the modifications
16:12today and then you're able to do the advanced but you're like no but i'm following the modified right
16:17you're able to mix and match if you will like if you if there's an exercise that you can do the
16:23advanced version then the next exercise you need to regress that's okay that doesn't mean the workout
16:29is messed up um so there might be times where it's appropriate for you to do the advanced even if
16:34you're following majority of the modified modified exercises in that workout for sure um and when it comes to
16:41just doing um some of the exercises within a workout i want y'all to really try to challenge
16:46yourself so even if you're more beginner and you see an advanced workout right even challenge yourself
16:52to do that workout because i guarantee you it's two or three exercises within that workout that you can
16:57do like advanced doesn't mean we're trying to make it to where nobody but advanced people can do it we try
17:02to sprinkle in some still some you know some basic exercises within that but if it has advanced that
17:08means at least three or four of the exercises in there are exercises that more advanced people can
17:14do and we don't want you to get hurt if you don't know how to do this particular exercise that's what
17:19we when we stamp advanced on that that means there might be a particular exercise a couple of particular
17:24exercises in there that you can get hurt from if you don't do them properly so we want you to challenge
17:29yourself to do those more advanced workouts look through them and then also this is i'll say this in
17:34every podcast um you should be trying to actively learn more about exercises right learn what muscle
17:40groups they work learn why you're doing certain exercises and then when you see something that you
17:45can't really particularly do you can make your own modifications for that exercise it doesn't have to
17:50be all like she said all or nothing just because you don't see it on the screen doesn't mean that you
17:55can't make up your own modification for that exercise or just do a different movement to be honest
18:00with you if you can do 60 of the workout and then have your own modification that's an effective way
18:04for you to get through that workout and you saying do your own movement kind of brings me to another
18:10point of we get a lot of comments of i couldn't do this exercise so i had to skip it and i brought my
18:17heart rate down do anything in that time right you can do jumping jacks you can hold a plank like
18:23don't stop moving right so let's say for example i can think of one exercise off top of my head
18:28when we do the jump lunge um with the knee drive i can see it in my head and that was one a lot of
18:35people are like i couldn't do that that was too hard why did you put that in there right so at that
18:41moment especially in the HIIT workout if there's an exercise that you can't do um you might injure
18:46yourself like he said do something you can do march in place do some high knees everybody can do a
18:53jumping jack or modified jumping jack modified you are just stepping your toes out right but you're
18:58moving you're moving you're keeping your heart rate up so even in the real i posted on my instagram
19:03a couple days ago there's so many times that jakai who's a big mama's boy he wants to be held and if i
19:10want to get my workout done i need to hold him because if not he's screaming and he's begging to
19:16be held and so there are times where i have to modify the exercise i can't do it holding him so i just
19:22march my knees holding him or i'll hold him up overhead to where my core has to be engaged and i'll
19:27march my knees like find anything that you can do in that moment for 40 seconds until we get to the
19:32next next exercise and it's something that you can do so um and the last point i want to say about
19:38that too is don't feel like you have to follow our pace so another comment we get all the time too is
19:44this was too fast i couldn't do it it should never be too fast because it should always be at the pace
19:50that you can do and we say it in the intro but i think a lot of people skip the intro do you want
19:56to get right into the workout don't blame you um but we always say in the intro use the weights that
20:01are best for you don't try to use what we're using because majority of the time you can probably go
20:06heavier we probably film two to three workouts whenever we film and so we're using a lot lighter
20:12than what we could do if we went all out in the workout so always use the weights that you can do but
20:17also always go at your own pace if we're going too fast slow it down it's a timer there 40 seconds at
20:25what you can do if you slow it down the timer is still going to go off when the timer goes off right
20:30and vice versa speed it up if we're going too slow a hit workout on the channel should never be too easy
20:36because you could always speed it up or go at a more intense pace that works for you so
20:42um we say it in the intro but if you skip the intro again don't blame you go at your own pace
20:49and we mean that so if you hear us say it and then you still try to follow our pace we we sincerely
20:54mean that go at your own pace because that's what the hit workout is high intensity is different for
20:59everybody sure and i want y'all to look at it try to be a little competitive with it yeah you know
21:04what i mean like i want to go faster than juicing toy i want to lift more than them and granted we
21:08don't lift what we can actually lift in the videos because we shoot so many at a time but we want you
21:14to look at it as like look i want to lift like toyya today i want to go at her pace today i want to
21:18exceed her pace especially when we're talking about the hip workouts right because when we do these
21:23workouts as much as we um mentally i would love to go all out like i'm not 100 on all of these videos
21:33but it is a follow-along video so you're looking at us for guidance so if i'm going super fast number
21:40one you're going to think you have to go super fast and then if it's an exercise where you're not
21:44particularly trying to watch the form you're trying to watch the form right it's gonna i might even
21:50discourage you from even doing the workout because it's too fast so our rule of thumb is we try to go
21:55slow enough to where you can see the pace of um you can see the form of what we're doing properly but
22:01we're trying to go also at a pace to where you can follow and it's just as effective you know but also
22:07showing you that it it's a hit workout we want to be moving right um and also sometimes especially
22:14when we're filming two or three workouts that's our workout for the day so we don't just
22:19shoot the exercises and clip them together we do the full workout i don't want to do that yeah i
22:24know um and so because we're doing a couple a day i'm tired by the second one you know and so y'all
22:32try shooting three and i think i think people underestimate like it's not just us doing a
22:37workout yeah because if for example like you could do two 20 minute workouts exactly because we're
22:43gonna um so we shoot multiple workouts in a day and i think a lot of people think if it's a 30
22:49minute workout it takes us 30 minutes to shoot but you got to think we shoot an intro outro
22:53warm up cool down setting everything up setting everything moving the couch literally moving the
22:58couch we'll eat a snack in between breastfeed she will breastfeed yep in between workouts so it's a
23:05whole process and it might take us anywhere between an hour and an hour and a half even sometimes to
23:11shoot a 30 minute workout just depending on the situation and sometimes we have to put him down for a
23:15nap literally in the middle of a workout you know what i mean when we used to be able to just shoot
23:20all the way through so we used to shoot like three or four workouts four or five literally we used to
23:25shoot four or five workouts and we just had the mindset that like all right get it done get it done
23:29but also this is our workout for the day let's just try to look at it as let's push through it
23:34like this is a workout it's not you know and that's what we kind of want to give you a feel of
23:38like we want you to feel like you're working out with us and not following along like i don't even like
23:43to use the term follow along sometimes because sometimes people think like i'm following you
23:48or following your pace or like choreography yeah some people are like hey i wish you guys would go
23:53at the same pace so i can see distracting to see and i'm like but during the workout you're not
24:00following the instructor to a t every time right the whole point of a workout is to see the exercise
24:05do the exercise and go at your own pace you know what i mean so um again that's why we don't go
24:11particularly all out but there are some workouts that we have on the channel where it's the point
24:16of it is to go all out and that's where you can kind of see us really push ourselves so go if you
24:21haven't already shameless plug go check out our amrap workouts where literally the whole point is as
24:26many reps as possible so we're actually on camera trying to show you like us going all out and at a
24:32pace because when we shoot an amrap we don't shoot anything else that day like we come in like
24:39we're saving all of our energy to go all out and that's what you should be doing if this is your
24:43only workout for the day if this is your 30 minute workout you need to be as efficient as possible
24:49then there needs to be no wasted movement and this is why we say if there's anything that you need to
24:53modify make that modification or just keep your body moving you know the amrap is the one i'd probably
24:59say we get the most comments of this is too fast and because we're going all out and again it's as
25:05many reps as possible for you they skip the intro again yeah so if we're doing 50 reps and you can
25:11only get 20 that's okay that's your amrap and again maybe one day you will get 50 it's something
25:18to work up towards so um yeah so these are just some of the points that we wanted to make when it
25:24comes to modifications are your friend they're there for a reason there are appropriate times to do the
25:31advanced and you might be listening to this and say i never have to do the modified and that's great
25:36you know like that's that's wonderful so that's kind of the point is there's options for you and
25:41there may be days where you know even for me postpartum when i was kind of getting back into
25:48exercising it was my goal to be able to do some of the advanced exercises again because i couldn't at
25:55that time so i would repeat the workouts week after week and say oh i can do the jump lunges now with
26:01no pain i'm or i'm not as out of breath you know and so you can use them as a what's the word i'm
26:08looking for almost like a goal to reach on some of the exercises um and then again in that same breath
26:15it doesn't mean even though those advanced versions are your goal it doesn't mean that the modified
26:19you're not getting a great workout out of it because if i would have just jumped back into working out
26:25i could do a jump lunge even during pregnancy right let's say i just jumped right back into
26:30doing jump lunges postpartum that would not have been efficient for my pelvic floor my core or smart
26:37right so listen to your body you know your body better than anyone else there are times where the
26:43advanced is the appropriate thing and that's going to be more efficient and there's times where the
26:47modification is going to be more efficient and both are going to give you a great workout yeah for sure
26:53and um i kind of want to flip the script and i know we mentioned it earlier but and i know a lot
26:58of people are going to ask this and i know a lot of people are thinking it and it's something that
27:02we don't even like to think about but i'm going to address it just because you're following the
27:07modified version or doing modifications doesn't mean again we said it it's less effective and it also
27:12doesn't mean you're going to burn less calories ding ding ding i didn't want to bring calories into
27:17this conversation but um you can burn more calories even doing the modified version than you can the
27:23advanced version especially if you're able again reference a hit workout if you're able to go
27:29faster and you're doing a modified version you're going to be a lot more effective you're going to
27:34burn more just because you're able to move efficiently so whatever is going to help you move efficiently
27:40that's is that's what's going to help you burn more calories that's what's helping what's going to
27:44help you burn more fat not just yeah you know what i mean and just giving an example again to
27:49the plyo push-up just because i know that's a challenging one in a lot of exercise if you can
27:53only get in three plyo push-ups in 40 seconds but you could get in 15 push-ups one's going to be more
28:01effective right so i say that you could do the three plyo push-ups and then pick it up with regular
28:06push-ups right so if you're trying to follow the advance and you only get in three don't lay on the mat
28:11the rest of the 30 seconds you'd be like that's all i got pick it up with the regular push-ups
28:16right so that's a good example of where you would burn more calories if that's your goal to do the
28:21modified version but you can still try a couple of the advanced too but yeah again it's all about
28:27all about being effective and i want a lot of you to go and i do this even with my own workouts
28:33go into each workout being super goal oriented so like go into it saying like all right today i'm
28:40going to challenge myself and go up five pounds with this exercise or i want to try to do the
28:45entire workout the advanced version of this workout and even if you fail at least you gave yourself a
28:51goal within that workout and if i find it if you give yourself a goal for each workout you're going
28:56to be a lot more efficient and effective just because you have a mindset that's to do better and
29:01to get better you know what i'm saying so don't just go into it willy-nilly you know what i mean try to
29:06go into it saying like all right i've previewed the workout tomorrow i'm gonna do this i'm gonna
29:11challenge i'm gonna have my weights for each particular exercise i'm gonna be ready to go
29:14and i'm gonna push myself i love it yeah i love it you know we're goal oriented people over here so
29:19um yeah that's pretty much the podcast today that's it's short and sweet but we wanted to do this
29:26it's very important because um we get this question a lot we get this comment a lot and we want a lot of
29:32you to feel more comfortable about doing the modification because there's again there are some
29:37days where i'm playing it back myself even as someone who does the advanced version all the
29:42time and i find myself doing some of the modifications again depending on the day and how
29:46i'm feeling right so uh don't feel like just because we wanted to make this particularly just
29:51because we don't want people who are doing a modified version to feel like they're doing less
29:55right we want you to feel like we want you to give we want to give you the purpose of why we're
30:00doing the modified exercises just to make it more effective and efficient for you and i think that's
30:05a testament of why we have um the great base of community that we have just because we have so
30:12many people that's able uh to get through these workouts and we want you to feel fulfilled and we
30:17want you to feel proud of yourself uh for getting through these workouts so again uh we make these
30:22workouts for you we literally sit down on this couch over here we go through each and every exercise
30:28and we literally try to see like does this make sense right does this make sense for this workout
30:33is this going to be effective for most people it's true programming it's true yeah just like no we're
30:37not just writing exercise no it's like and and there's also a reason why we post once a week just
30:44because if we would have just to shoot out workouts all the time i feel like they're just going to be
30:49this is why you get into the instagram moves right this is why you get into the like the choreography
30:55like she said just because i think a lot of times people think they have to do so much to get in a
31:00workout to where it just becomes like choreography you're just making up movements just to move you
31:05know what i mean like and it kind of misses the basis of what high intensity interval training is what
31:10true strength training is and some people might even call our workouts boring sometimes but we try to
31:15keep our workouts as functional as possible just because some of these instagram moves it's not going to
31:20do you a jump squat into a backflip probably crazy not gonna do like and i've seen it on on youtube
31:26literally i've seen people do that i'm like who is supposed to do that yeah you know what i mean we try
31:30to think about the average person like what they're able and capable of doing i think it's helped that
31:36we've trained people of many different ages and we've seen um we just had a good what the basics can
31:42do to you from 20 to 80 yeah we have a good sample size of like what people are capable of doing
31:48and this goes again like she said from 20 to 80 there are things that my 80 year old client is
31:54doing and my 20 year old client is doing the exact same thing you know what i mean so we try to keep
31:59everything functional again like i mentioned how athletes train they have that foundation that they
32:04follow they have those simple fundamental exercise that they start with and then they move on to more
32:11advanced training and then they move on to more sports specific training you know what i mean so again
32:15modification doesn't mean less than it doesn't mean less effective and it doesn't mean you're not
32:20doing enough it means you're doing what's effective for you yep and we'll close it off by saying if you
32:26are someone listening to this um and you have felt that modifications mean less than we've all been
32:32there and even when i was pregnant i still remember the day where i couldn't do an exercise and i felt
32:38discouraged and i couldn't do a pull-up she was hurt i was like i cried because i was like i can't do a
32:44pull-up what's wrong with me i was pregnant like you know and so it's like i understand that feeling when
32:51you're like oh i can't do something but you are moving your body and that's the whole thing with exercise
32:58is it's what works for your your body right and so um once i got over it i realized like oh no i'm still
33:07able to exercise i'm still able to move and then when i got sick postpartum and i couldn't exercise
33:13you will never ever take exercise for granted again it doesn't matter what it is like i was when i
33:19squatted again body weight i cried that day because it felt so good just to be able to exercise again
33:25right so when you look at what exercise is and why you're doing it even the simple basic movements
33:33are such a blessing to your body so if you feel that we've been there i've been there he's been
33:39there it it can be discouraging when you're like oh i couldn't do this exercise but once you're able
33:44to get back into moving period it is you realize again then the importance of just why you're exercising
33:51you know so um keep that in mind as you're going through the workouts and yeah thank you for supporting
33:57the workouts and we're going to continue to give you these options and give you things to um push you
34:05but also make it attainable for you to do for sure so um if you're watching this drop a comment in the
34:12comment section and just kind of let us know um how the modifications has helped you throughout your
34:17journey especially with our workouts because again we that was one of the early feedbacks um that we got
34:23early on was um just doing two different versions of the workout and we've kind of stuck with that
34:30and kind of made it our thing and we didn't want us to again like she said be a thing where i'm only
34:35doing in advance and she's doing the modified um it just kind of naturally happens that way sometimes
34:39and then sometimes when she's feeling good she's like no i'm i'm doing i'm doing the advance in this
34:44workout and i'm like you know what you got it you got it um so and maybe we need to make i feel like
34:50we need to make a playlist of like workouts where you led you know because i think people don't
34:55realize also i think it doesn't matter right it doesn't matter who's doing the advanced and who's
35:00doing the modified i understand the message that it could give off but at the same time i also don't
35:04want it to give off a message of if you're a female and you can't do these exercises that you're weak
35:10right because that's not the case whatsoever so it doesn't matter who's doing the modified or advanced
35:15because it shouldn't be gender specific right it should just be do what you can do at the end of
35:21the day you know and leave that comment but also leave a comment on how the advanced has helped you
35:26you know it might have pushed you one day because i love seeing that too my favorite other people are
35:31like i did what juice did and it's like you're so proud and that's a great feeling you know so also
35:37leave how maybe the advanced has pushed you out of your comfort zone maybe one day or even talk about
35:42just your transition from modified to advanced just like how that happened over time and some for
35:48some people it happens very quickly you know and i tell people the body is smart it's very adaptable
35:53so sometimes you might start off with a modified version or just do maybe two or three reps like she
35:57said uh within a particular interval and then over time you might be able to do half the 40 seconds
36:03right or most of the 40 seconds without having to switch to that modified version so talk about in the
36:08comments i think it would be helpful basically talk to us in the comments you know we're trying to
36:12engage you know what i mean but it's just um it's very interesting um for us to get kind of those
36:18in-depth comments talking about like just your experience because again we create these workouts for
36:24you uh to have a great experience to have efficiency again a lot of y'all don't have time right y'all
36:30got 30 minutes there's a reason you click that video right you click that 30 minute video because
36:34you know i got 30 minutes before i have to get my kids ready for school and i have to go to work and
36:39i needed efficient workout to get me through it so um we create these workouts for you so just
36:44we love the feedback we love the comments um that we get on how it's helped you or how um even just
36:49the constructive criticism we get with our workouts because we don't know right we're just creating
36:53these workouts um just to give you something to follow and something to be good at um but also
36:58sometimes we don't really see it from your particular lens you know we're trainers and again with our
37:04clients they give us feedback they're like oh this i don't really like how this flowed i feel like
37:09you know this made me more tired and we'll restructure workouts sometimes around our personal
37:13clients just to make it more effective for them so again it's hard to create the perfect workout for
37:19two million plus subscribers um but it does help us get a sense of what it is that we need to focus on
37:25and put our attention on to make it more efficient for you so um we appreciate you for talking about this
37:31topic um if you want us to go more in depth about it uh we can but also we do live streams on
