00:00.
00:30Hi, I'm Tim Slater and today we're going to take a look at the vintage V100 Lemon Drop.
00:56The V100 Lemon Drop is unique among the vintage reissue series in that it features a reverse
01:02fitted neck pickup with out of phase wiring in the middle position.
01:08So this gives us that classic out of phase snarky quack, so beloved of blues aficionados
01:18around the world.
01:20We'll take a closer look at that in a minute, so let's go over the whole guitar from top
01:23to bottom and then we'll review some of the tones.
01:27Now the V100 Lemon Drop features genuine Grover tuners.
01:32Grover machine heads need no introduction, they're world famous, they've been used on
01:36many many top brands over the decades.
01:39They're totally reliable, totally trustworthy.
01:41And I particularly like the green tinted tulip keys on these ones.
01:45They had a really unique, authentic vintage type vibe, pardon the pun.
01:52We also have a Graf-Tec low friction nut, which is really handy so that when we're doing big
01:56string bends, the strings return inaccurate tuning.
02:01The neck is a mahogany neck that features a lovely, comfortable, shallow C profile.
02:06Also has edge binding, 22 medium jumbo frets, a 12 inch radius rosewood board topped off with
02:15these lovely, authentic crown inlays.
02:18At this point I'd like to point out that I'm really impressed with the worksmanship on this
02:22guitar.
02:23Everything is flawless.
02:24The binding is clean and accurate.
02:28The fret ends feel really lovely and smooth.
02:31And all of the crown inlays themselves, they're fitted really, really beautifully.
02:36Everything is in line and looks and feels great.
02:39The body is a mahogany body topped off with this delicious lemon drop flame maple veneer.
02:45Now a really unique feature about this guitar is the body neck joint.
02:52This features a descending bass shoulder, which has a deeper scoop than we would normally associate
02:57with this single cutaway shape.
02:59And also the neck heel joint features a smooth recessed profile here.
03:05So together this enables us to reach the upper levels of the fingerboard much more easily
03:11than we might otherwise do on a classic single cutaway guitar.
03:16The pickups on this guitar offers a unique tonal perspective.
03:20We have a pair of Wilkinson WVC double coils with nickel covers that give us traditional
03:26tones combined with contemporary power.
03:30A reverse fitted neck pickup combines an outer face center position to produce a throaty singing
03:37instantly identifiable lead tone, which is perfect for classic slow blues.
03:43Each pickup is a standard double coil, but when we go into the middle position, the reverse
03:50round wiring on the neck pickup comes into play and that's where we get that lovely, bright,
03:58quacky quality.
03:59So let's compare the sound.
04:00So here is the neck pickup on its own, full humbucking mode.
04:07It conveys all that lovely sparkliness with that nice undertow of depth to it.
04:19Bridge pickup.
04:20Again, what we're looking for from a bridge humbucker is kind of a brightness and an attack with an
04:26undertow of plumminess that gives you the sustain that we're looking for.
04:29.
04:45Plenty of snap there.
04:46Now, let's go to the unique middle position.
04:51This is favored by blues guitarists around the world because it has such a unique tone
04:54to it, particularly on the treble strings.
05:01Okay, we're going to demonstrate some sounds now.
05:06I'm going to run a little loop that I've prepared earlier.
05:09I'm going to start on clean tones on all three settings and then we'll introduce overdrive
05:15on all three settings as well so you can compare the difference.
05:17Here are the clean tones.
