00:30Hi, Ed Friedland, The Bass Whisperer, here again for Guitar World Magazine.
00:38This month we're looking at the Fernandez Tremor Deluxe Bass.
00:43Here we see the Tremor Deluxe in a gunmetal blue satin finish.
00:46It also comes in red and black.
00:49I found out just before filming that the satin finish doesn't take polish very well, which
00:55explains the sort of mottled look to the color.
01:00Currently, the Tremor Bass is being played by Tony Campos of Static X, as well as his
01:05evil twin, Maldito X of Assassino, Maldito.
01:10And of course the bass excels at playing hard rock, but it's very versatile.
01:14You can get a lot of different tones out of it.
01:16It's an older body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 24 frets, neck through body design, which gives
01:24you great clearance all the way up to the top.
01:27It plays really easy.
01:29It's a good, lightweight, well-balanced instrument.
01:32The EMG 35J pickups may look like humbuckers, but in fact they function more like a single
01:38coil.
01:39They are what they call a narrow aperture pickup, meaning that it's just a small area similar
01:46to the size of a single coil pickup that actually picks up the string vibration.
01:51So the tone is somewhat similar to a jazz bass, but of course because their EMG's is very
01:56high five, very full range, that's low and high, and it's also dead quiet for recording
02:02or live work, which is a real plus.
02:05In addition to the EMG pickups, the bass also comes with Fernandes' own FGI preamp.
02:10FGI, I don't know what that stands for, but it's two band bass and treble boost and cut.
02:17Next let's hear the bass completely flat, both pickups up full, no EQ.
02:29I'm going to roll the bass all the way up, nice and fat, I'll roll in the treble, adds
02:53nice zing to it.
02:54I'm going to roll to just the front pickup, keep the bass boosted, and put the treble in
02:58the middle for a nice, fat, chunky P bass type of sound.
03:12Here's both pickups now, bass boosted, treble set flat.
03:27Now here's just the back pickup, with the bass boosted and the treble set flat.
03:30In a world where cheap, flimsy bridges rob your instrument of its precious tone, the Wilkinson
03:55is a solid standout.
03:57Both pickups up full, and the preamp boosted on both bands, you get an amazing, aggressive,
04:02sort of jazz bass type of slap tone.
04:04And because the neck is nice and stiff, it's got a real firm feel, it works great for tuning
04:09down, I've dropped it down to a low D. Now we'll roll off to just the front.
04:28Now here's the slap tone with just the back pickup.
04:43Well, as you can see, the Tremor Deluxe has a lot of really cool sounds in it.
04:56It's a modern sounding bass, but it's very understated.
04:58It doesn't hit you over the head.
05:00The EMGs give it a really nice hi-fi tone, records great, sounds great live, very well
05:07balanced, lightweight.
05:08Hey, great instrument.
05:09Check it out.
05:10Check it out.
05:36All right.
05:37Let's go.
05:42So.
05:46It's nice.
05:48Gonna Saint cleanser, really tonsidente.
05:50And then at the end.
05:51The A- Aw去.
05:55Three, two, three, four or four and five hundred shoulders.
05:56The eye box is very modern, but it's flexible.
06:01The eye box is so great.
