You're kidding, right? Mavia, you're lying. Las Vegas golfer is here? You've got to be kidding
00:06
me. You're playing me. Oh, look at him. There he is. Las Vegas golfer, Brady Cannon on C2C
00:11
styling. Good to see you, Brady. Hey, great to see you, Scott. Honestly, I want to start with
00:17
what you just said, just before we get to the golf. I really wanted to go to Canelo and Crawford.
00:25
I thought I'd be doing that fight, but I guess the Saudis are putting on that fight, and
00:30
they have a different guest list than, let's say, PBC. When I do all the PBC fights, that
00:35
was a PBC fight the other night with Pacquiao to draw with Berrios, but that main event on
00:42
September 13th, that's the fight of the year. I wanted to go to that, but it's not happening.
00:47
Well, Carver and I talk about live golf whenever they have an event. That's a Saudi thing. Maybe
00:52
he and I can cover the fight. Does that work? You know what I mean? I mean, honestly, that's
00:56
it. Carver High, pack your bags. You're going to Sin City for Canelo. Hey, so let's talk
01:03
about, first of all, this Ryder Cup team. You know, Carver High's been talking about guys
01:09
that have to, you know, up the ante a little bit that haven't been playing well. Morikawa,
01:14
Cantlay, playing terrible over the last few months. Are they going to be able to have a kick-ass
01:21
USA team? Are they going to have to depend on Keegan and Bryson to carry the day at Bethpage?
01:27
Well, you know, Scotty's obviously going to be there. Keegan and Bryson, yeah, you're right.
01:33
After that, it gets a little muddy as far as, you know, you mentioned Morikawa, Cantlay. They have
01:39
not been carrying their own weight as of late. They both missed the cut at the Open Championship.
01:44
Patrick Reed was a guy from the live circuit that they thought had a shot. He missed the cut
01:48
as well, and we know what kind of Ryder Cup player he's been. You know, I think Keegan's in kind of a
01:55
tough spot here. Is there anybody? I don't think there's really anybody else on the American side
02:00
from the live circuit that qualifies. Chris Godderup is now making a name for himself,
02:06
but I worry about that, Scott. Now, we've got some time left here, okay? We've got the 3M open in
02:12
Minnesota this week. Then we go to the Wyndham. Then you have the FedEx Cup playoffs. So, Godderup
02:17
has some time to kind of, you know, prove himself a little bit more. But I think if you throw this guy
02:22
into the Ryder Cup tomorrow, no, he's too green for that at this point. He's got to get a little bit
02:29
of scar tissue and some experience, or I think that stage may be a little too much on his nerves.
02:34
I mean, the eight days when he made like 2.6 million, he probably doesn't know whether he's
02:40
coming or going right now, but he had a hell of a trip over there. Oh, man. I mean, what a cash out
02:49
for the young kid in a young career. You know, he just won for the first time on the PGA Tour last
02:54
year at an alternate event, the Myrtle Beach Classic. You know, when they play these signature
02:58
events and everybody else goes and plays another one, that was his first PGA Tour win. And then he wins
03:04
the Scottish and holds off Rory McIlroy and then finishes third at the British. The guy is just
03:10
having a surge in his career all of a sudden. And the Ryder Cup talk, I believe, is justified.
03:16
He absolutely bangs the ball. One of the biggest hitters in the world. But again, you know, to go
03:22
from one very nice PGA Tour win to one very nice major finish to the Ryder Cup is a very big jump. So,
03:31
I want to see this guy continue to play well for the next six weeks or so before I believe he is
03:38
in that conversation for a captain's pick on the team. So, do you think Ricky's earned his way into
03:43
the FedEx with the way he's played over the last couple of months? And again, at the Open, I thought
03:49
he played real solid golf. Do you think he'll make it into the playoff? It's a great question. I love
03:56
Ricky and I'd love to see him make it, but I don't want to get too excited about it, Scott, because I
04:01
was talking to some people over the weekend. In fact, I almost drafted Ricky Fowler. We had a
04:06
British Open draft with a bunch of guys out here in Las Vegas. And I thought about taking Ricky and
04:11
it would have been a good pick. He finished 14th, a top 20 finish. But you know what? He's always been
04:17
a very good British Open player. He's always been a great wind player. Played at Oklahoma State in
04:22
college. Grew up in Temecula, California, where it gets windy. He is a very, very good wind player.
04:28
So, it's no surprise that he once again played well at the Open Championship. But again, I don't
04:34
know if that's a flash in the pan or if this is going to continue. That's fascinating stuff. I never
04:39
knew that his ability in wind was from his deep background. And even in Temecula, that's crazy
04:48
because I used to play golf there. So, I want to ask you about Bryson's performance on
04:54
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Because Thursday, he was stench. And then what he did those next
05:01
three days, to me, was remarkable. I think he's just a badass. And I think that he's the
05:07
right guy to have out there at Bethpage getting all those drunk New Yorkers lit up.
05:13
No doubt about it. He is a great, you know, team spirit, camaraderie guy. I'm not a Bryson
05:20
fan, personally. And this was not my own heart betting. But you talk about a bad beat. I had
05:25
a really nice number on Bryson DeChambeau to miss the cut at the Open Championship.
05:30
Oh, that's right.
05:31
Plus 350. And he goes out and shoots 78. And I was, I knew, I'm like, don't count your money
05:37
yet. Don't count. I'm talking to Miami Joe. And he's like, you know, I had already spent
05:42
the money, Brady. I thought that was the greatest bet in the world. Then the guy comes
05:45
back, shoots 65, 64. I mean, 19 under par or something like that for the rest of the three
05:51
days. Absolutely remarkable. Now, I will say the conditions got much more benign on Saturday
05:59
and Sunday. And that's one reason that I bet Scotty in game going into the final round,
06:03
even at that big price. Because I said, without some inclement weather, this guy is just going
06:08
to coast like everybody else did. And sure enough, he shot three under and it wasn't
06:13
that difficult. So Bryson, you know, Saturday and Sunday, especially conditions were not
06:18
nearly as difficult. Friday was more difficult, dealt with rain, dealt with wind, and still
06:23
shot a 65 birdie four out of his last six holes to make the cut on the number. I tell you
06:28
what, though, I'm going to have to see more of it, Scott, before I quit betting this guy
06:34
to miss the cut at the Open Championship, because I don't believe that style of golf
06:38
is his, you know, wheelhouse. His wheelhouse is US Open, PGA Championship, where he can
06:44
bomb it and use his length off the tee in his power game to bring a golf course to its
06:50
knees. And that's not necessarily Lynx golf. So I want to see before we get to next year
06:55
in Royal Birkdale, I may go against him again. But Ryder Cup, no doubt about it. He's a Captain
07:00
America type guy, rah-rah guy, and obviously a fantastic player, and a perfect player for
07:06
Bethpage Black. We know that you got to be uber long to be successful on that course.
07:12
And he's exactly that guy.
07:14
Didn't you think that, like, because I love the Open more than all others. It's my favorite
07:18
tournament always, without provocation. But I thought Saturday and Sunday was just too
07:24
easy. I mean, it was like, like, I was like, this sucks. This is too easy.
07:31
Yeah, I'm with you. And I thought I thought the golf course was outstanding. The first two
07:36
days was perfect, right? We were spoiled. We had we had some, you know, some solid wind,
07:41
some not crazy. And I was going into this tournament talking about that about the weather.
07:45
It looked like we were going to have some weather that they had to deal with, but nothing crazy,
07:50
which is perfect. I don't like to see things go sideways completely, but enough to give these
07:55
guys some trouble, enough to bring double bogey into play, and enough when you're playing downwind
08:01
and it's blowing 30 where you can reach the green on your drive. You know, some funky stuff like that.
08:07
And that was happening on Thursday and Friday when Bryson shot 78. And, you know, a lot of these guys
08:12
went off the rails. But you're right. When we got to the weekend, it was unseasonably beautiful.
08:18
The sun came out. It didn't blow too hard. And, you know, but I tell you, great golf course. I hope
08:25
we go back there soon. I really like that track. And what a gorgeous venue, too.
08:30
Oh, it's fantastic. And those fans, they're crazy in Northern Ireland, Belfast. They're nuts.
08:35
Real quick, 30 seconds. You've seen all the greats. How great do you think this guy is early on in his
08:42
career watching him golf like this? 111 under par in majors since 2020. That's 46 shots better than
08:51
anyone else during that time. He's really remarkable. I love the guy. I didn't like Tiger as much. I got
08:59
tired of his dominance. Now I've gotten to a point where I absolutely appreciate watching the greatness
09:04
of Scotty Scheffler. I think he's one of the special ones, Scott. You're the special one.
09:09
Las Vegas golfer on C2C. This is craziness.
