00:06great to have everybody with us here today on a tuesday carver high here with you of course

00:12scotty scheffler big win across the pond second major of the year fourth major overall everything

00:20running good for scotty this past weekend in northern ireland and our man smiley kaufman

00:25was there as well of course you can check out the smiley show right here on sports grid multiple

00:30times per week feeling a little jet lagged but he's ready to rock with us as always smiley it's

00:37great to see you as always my man yeah what's up mikey up i got home about this time yesterday so

00:43i was woke up at about 4 30 uh refreshed ready to go but as soon as around two three o'clock hit today

00:50i was definitely a little on the jet lag side but we're powering through all good powering through

00:55and you're ready to rock all right let's start with scotty because look we know at this point uh

01:02the guy's a machine he's been a machine for the last few years but geez you know smiley if there's

01:08not going to be any rain and wind on saturday and sunday that's just going to set him up even more

01:12to be able to do i thought he i thought he played well in the bad conditions on thursday and so and

01:18friday but then you give him a really a fresh course with no wind and no rain and he's just

01:25gonna go he's gonna go to town man it was it was an incredible week poor rush was incredible uh that

01:31golf course was fantastic yeah we didn't get the weather that we hoped we would get on the weekend

01:36for me personally as somebody who was walking the golf course i didn't mind it i hate just getting

01:42absolutely dumped on out uh when you're covering golf so for me i didn't mind it but i imagine the viewer

01:47uh when they turned on the tv were was hoping for more of an armageddon type of situation but

01:52uh scotty chef were like you said he managed the conditions that were a little tougher on thursday

01:57and i still think about a shot that he hit on thursday that i had a chance to call which was on

02:04the 16th hole calamity corner one of the most iconic uh holes in the world especially was the

02:09highlight of this event uh going over to that 16th and it's like a 220 yard uh hole for the most part

02:17played anywhere between 210 to 240 and on thursday scotty got up there to a front right hole location

02:22and hit this four iron to three feet and i'm like how many people can do that um and not only did he

02:29do it thursday but he did it friday then he did it saturday and he was very close to almost doing it

02:35sunday playing that hole in eight shots played it in nine uh he really needs to get better at golf

02:40i i actually said i i guess it was friday we had stewie on keith stewart was with us and

02:46and i actually said to him of all the rounds of golf we've watched scotty play over the last couple

02:52years and and just dominating rounds of golf i really did think that his round on thursday and

02:58he didn't even have the lead but i thought that was one of the best rounds of golf i had ever seen

03:03scotty play in my life and like you said you had the front row seat for it i think you did have one

03:08uh wardrobe change on thursday right smiley they did get you once that was that was actually

03:14friday uh i was oh that was friday yes i was finishing up rory's group with fleawood and jt

03:21and all of a sudden it just came down and i just uh just sat there and just basically just got

03:28drenched for 15 straight minutes as it was just a full downpour luckily they brought me out some new

03:32clothes that i was able to walk around the afternoon with my group but definitely got a little wet there

03:37uh but yeah you're right um he people for i also didn't really probably see this unless they were

03:44watching uh like world feed or something but he made scotty made about a 10 to 12 footer on the

03:5014th hole on thursday that he gave a little fist pump for for par and then it goes and birdies 16 and

03:5817 it's just what champions do they find a way on hard difficult days it was raining it was windy

04:04and he shoots three under par and and he's in the top five of the leaderboard and at that point when

04:10he's that close to the lead it just felt like nobody was going to win that golf tournament other

04:15than scotty sheffler after that first round certainly felt that way smiley smiley kaufman is with us of

04:21course here on coast to coast i think the second biggest storyline out of this past weekend other

04:25than scotty's dominance is this rider cup talk smiley because i felt like that's what really

04:31ramped up after the open championship was starting to now look at the pieces that are on the board

04:38who's going to be there for the united states and for keegan bradley when we get to best page

04:43and now two months uh flat we're going to be getting there bryson is in we've pretty much no matter what

04:50happens with the points it sounds like keegan has already told brian and told everyone uh that

04:55bryson's going to be on the team but smiley you have some mainstays that have not played very good

05:02golf over the last couple months whether it's colin morikawa patrick cantlay etc etc and then you have

05:08some guys rising got her up and get him down and a few others who are playing incredible golf this is

05:16going to be very interesting smiley for the united states side here over the next few weeks

05:20it sure is and i think the biggest piece of information that kind of came out from the

05:24open championship was the press conference that keegan bradley had just talking about the agreement

05:30that luke donald had with vice captain potentially being uh taking on the captain role is if keegan were

05:37to play so just even more talks of of confirmation that it's a realistic possibility that keegan is

05:43is uh is is potentially going to play this rider cup uh you know what i'll tell you kind of how

05:49the schedule goes so the the picks are going to be uh made after the tour championship but after the

05:55bmw uh which is the week before the tour championship there's going to be six automatic qualifiers and at

06:01that point uh keegan bradley will meet with six of the qualifiers um on the automatic qualifiers at in

06:09atlanta and most of the time they go to dinner or tuesday or wednesday night and everybody kind of has

06:15the floor to talk about uh who they want to who they either want on the team who they want to advocate

06:20for maybe players they don't want on the team um and that's kind of part of the process that the

06:26captain takes in is just a uh just getting a sense from the the guys who are already qualified to be on

06:31the team and you have to imagine at that point keegan's going to have a pretty good conversation

06:37with all those guys and most likely i would imagine those six players would uh say hey we want you on

06:43this team keegan and and uh and if that's the case keegan probably will most likely play yeah you know

06:51if you start kind of picking up the breadcrumbs here smiley like it it really feels like i know they

06:57can't say it yet but kind of feels like he's going to be playing like just from everything like why

07:03would you go and say that this has already been talked about with luke donald that he's going to

07:07let whether it's kiz or or woodland one of these vice captains be able to run around on the course and

07:13be the the communicator with the players while he's playing you know why would he be you know all the

07:19things that he has said i and let's let's get to the biggest thing of it all he is without

07:26question one of the 12 best american golfers right now sure it's not even there's not even a doubt

07:31about it smiling oh it's it's a bit of a tough situation for keegan because you never know how

07:38often you're going to get this call mike to be be the writer cup captain and when that call comes in

07:43and of course it's a chance of a lifetime but also you're still um in the it's not past your prime of

07:50your playing career you have to say yes and he's kind of said coming into the year that hey if only

07:57way i play is if i qualify in the top six well at this point that's looking unrealistic unless he

08:03were to go win one of the playoff events and even then i'm not sure if it would go all the way to the

08:07top six so very interesting times ahead and i'm definitely looking forward to following it uh as i

08:13have i probably have 12 possibilities on who could be on this team that's like how crazy it could be

08:18uh got her up gonna win again in minnesota this week i mean that guy's playing as good as anyone

08:23i mean that's a that's a lot of travel those guys that play last week and this week it's got to be

08:27tough but uh some big names in minnesota they get the points got her up definitely won uh ricky

08:33fowler had a good week of the open championship i'm looking to see how he plays this week ricky
