Corrin Leeming and Jordan Cain after men's 10,000m event at Island Games
Transcript
00:00Another 10,000 metres, another tremendous performance from an Ironman athlete.
00:04I'm sure the other islands are getting a bit annoyed with us, Corrin.
00:07A gold medal, an Ireland Games record to boot, you must be delighted.
00:10Yeah, I'm really happy with that.
00:12I wanted a hard race, but I wasn't really thinking about the records.
00:15I think I told my sister at lunchtime that I thought I could run a sub-30 before the summer's out,
00:20but I wasn't going to try tonight, and I think she told me just go for it.
00:23And yeah, I'm glad I trusted her.
00:25And you went out like a rocket, shall we say.
00:29And I think you lapped most of the field by about 11, was it about right?
00:33Yeah, I really wanted to go hard from the start.
00:35I wanted a hard race, but I've raced quite a few here before,
00:38and I think I was hopeful they were going to try and race it negatively,
00:41so not let any gaps open up.
00:43So I knew if I tried to open up to say 64, 65, 400, people were going to try and come with me,
00:48so there's a chance of obviously the group splitting.
00:50And then if you are trying to run on your own, if there's not a huge group behind you,
00:53there's obviously less chance of people coming back across if you do blow up.
00:58Jordan, I heard you mention before, it was sweltering again tonight.
01:01This is not what we expected from Orkney, is it?
01:03It's not, but I'm not complaining, because I'm going to come home with a real good tan.
01:07Yeah, it's just amazing.
01:08The whole week's been beautiful so far, and I think tomorrow morning might be a bit wet,
01:13and then it's going to be dry again.
01:14So yeah, it's an amazing week, isn't it?
01:16And how did your race go?
01:17Really good.
01:18For me, you know, I wanted just to run a decent time.
01:21I've not run competitively on the track since I was 15, and I'm 33 now, so yeah.
01:27In your pump.
01:28I'm in my prime, maybe, yeah.
01:29No, I really enjoyed the experience, and I said to myself before the race,
01:32I'll try and not get a lap more than three times from Corrin, so I think I did that, didn't I?
01:36And looking ahead, lads, you're both in the Half Marathon Friday.
01:39Looking forward to that.
01:40Yes.
01:41It's going to be a good course.
01:42It's hard.
01:43I'm excited.
01:44It's a very hilly course for a half marathon.
01:46You very, very rarely get a course that's going to be that hilly.
01:49I think it's a huge unknown for everyone, but I'm really looking forward to it,
01:52and it's going to be exciting.
01:53And do you think you'll be a bit of a marked man now?
01:55I don't know.
01:56Possibly.
01:57Jordan, you looking forward to it as well?
01:59Yeah, I am looking forward to it.
02:00The course is really good.
02:02It's got a bit of everything.
02:04Not much flat.
02:05It's kind of up and down, which is quite good for Manxies, actually.
02:08Yeah, I was going to say, it suits the three of us, really.
02:10So I think hopefully we'll go really well.
02:12But like Corinne said, it's on the day, and it's going to be a bit of an unknown for everyone.
02:16But hopefully we'll all go well.
