David Mullarkey after winning bronze at Commonwealth Games 10,000m
Transcript
00:00David, a historic night for the Isle of Man, the first ever Athletic Medical Conference Games.
00:06How does that sound?
00:07Yeah, it sounds pretty good.
00:08You know, it's good to put the Isle of Man on the map, especially in the 10,000 metres.
00:12You know, we've got some of the most competitive nations in the world, with Kenya, Uganda and stuff like that.
00:16So, yeah, to put a medal for the Isle of Man on the medal table this year round and the
00:23first time in history is a great feeling, yeah.
00:25Yeah, we talked, one of the big highlights, well, the headline feature will have been the weather.
00:30Yeah.
00:31It did feel very Manx at times, didn't it?
00:33Oh, for sure. I felt at home. This was great. I was looking at the weather, I was speaking to
00:37Ollie before, and I was like,
00:38this doesn't feel any different to a regular Tuesday night on the Isle of Man, so, yeah, just felt like
00:44home out there.
00:45You say it felt at home. You actually looked really comfortable, I thought. I know it was a bit of
00:49a tactical race. Did it sort of settle down as you thought it would?
00:52Yeah, I think it was a little bit surgy, and we saw that with the women's race last night as
00:55well, very, like, up and down with pace.
00:57And I think you go through waves in the 10,000 metres, no matter how it's run, where you feel
01:02good, then you feel a bit worse.
01:03And luckily, my best spell of the race came in that last mile. I thought, great, with a lap to
01:08go, and moved into a good position and was able to execute that final 200.
01:13You mentioned Ollie before. It must have been lovely to line up with him tonight. It's not very often we
01:16get two Manx in the final, is it?
01:18No, for sure. I mean, me and Ollie have, you know, go way back. We've been competing against each other,
01:23run with each other for years.
01:24So, to have a friend on that start line, not just, like, someone from my home nation, is a great
01:30experience.
01:30And, yeah, he made it just a better experience all round, so shout-out to him as well.
01:35And finally, we've got another race to come Saturday. How are you feeling ahead of that?
01:39This is wild.
01:39Yeah, good. Rest up, recover, mentality stays the same, get ready to compete against the best in the world, and
01:47keep doing what we've been doing.
01:49Congratulations again. Well done, mate.
01:51Cheers. Thank you very much.
