Satara, Maharashtra - A 20-year-old tourist from Karad is battling for life after his car skidded off a cliff and plunged 300 feet into a gorge near Satara's popular reverse waterfall on Wednesday.

Sahil Jadhav was critically injured when the vehicle slipped on wet grass at the notorious Table Point near Sadawaghapur in Patan taluka. The accident occurred whilst his four friends had stepped out to take photographs at the scenic spot.

The group had travelled from Karad to witness the reverse waterfall, which attracts hundreds of tourists during monsoon season. Police sources confirmed that the car's tyres lost grip on the rain-soaked grass, causing Sahil to lose control before the vehicle tumbled into the deep valley.

Police Inspector Avinash Kavathekar, along with students from Kingmaker Academy in Surul, conducted the rescue operation. Sahil was immediately rushed to Sahyadri Hospital in Karad where he remains in critical condition.

The Patan-Sadawaghapur road stretch, particularly the Table Point area, is known for its dangerous gorges on both sides despite being a popular tourist destination.

"Many tourists visit this spot daily. Whilst enjoying the natural beauty, people must exercise extreme caution near Table Point as both sides have deep valleys," police warned in their advisory.

Authorities have urged tourists to prioritise safety over photography, stating that negligence could prove fatal at such risky locations.
