00:00Hi there and welcome to the weekend weather forecast from the Met Office.
00:04This current heatwave peaks on Saturday and although the UK's highest temperature of
00:07the year so far won't be exceeded and it will be a little bit less hot in the south-east
00:12compared with the last two heatwaves, it will be hotter elsewhere towards the north and
00:16the west because of this south-eastery airflow.
00:19Now that's going to bring some mistiness around eastern coast during Saturday morning, perhaps
00:23lingering for one or two coastlines into the afternoon.
00:27But elsewhere it's widespread blue skies, very strong sunshine, so make sure you're
00:32covered up to protect yourself from the high or very high UV levels.
00:36And with that widespread sunshine, temperatures rising a hotter day compared with Friday.
00:41But for the far north of Scotland, we're going to keep some low clouds and mistiness, so not
00:45as hot here.
00:46Nevertheless, for central, western and northern Scotland, perhaps the hottest day of the year
00:50so far, widely into the high twenties, exceeding 30 Celsius in one or two spots.
00:55But the heat across England is further displaced to the west compared with previous heatwaves.
01:05We're expecting the highest temperatures to be in this zone around the west to south-west
01:10Midlands into the west country, south-east Wales.
01:13Here, widely 31 Celsius, perhaps 32 or 33 in one or two spots.
01:18And you can see how hot it is across the north and west of Wales, the south-west of England
01:23as well.
01:24And these are places where we don't normally get temperatures exceeding 30 Celsius, not
01:28as frequently as, say, London and the south-east.
01:31So unusually hot in many places.
01:33And we keep that high temperature, all those high temperatures, into Saturday night.
01:38An unusually warm night, especially for western and north-western parts of the UK, with temperatures
01:44staying above 20 Celsius, uncomfortable for sleeping.
01:47But there's a fly in the ointment on Sunday, a bit of cloud coming along from a low pressure
01:52sitting to the east.
01:53And so it will be a cloudier day on the whole.
01:56The cloud perhaps breaking up a little later on, but it might take some time.
02:00And the cloud giving one or two showers into the east.
02:03So as a result, it's not going to be quite as hot as Saturday, but still widely into the
02:08mid to high 20s, low 30s in places.
02:11The highest temperature likely to be 31 Celsius, rather than 33 Celsius.
02:17Then it's another hot day in the east on Monday, but cooler, fresher and more showery
02:21air moves into the west, and that becomes more widespread into Tuesday and Wednesday.
02:27So a change into next week, with weak areas of low pressure turning up and slowly meandering
02:33close to the UK, bringing the chance of some rain, some showers and some thunderstorms.
02:39But in between, there will still be some very warm sunshine, so it's not going to be a dramatic
02:44cool down in many places into next week.
02:47But there is a greater chance of some showers and thunderstorms.
02:51Bye bye.
