Hi, my name is Holly Alton and I'm a food and drink writer for National World and here's
00:04
how you can make a lazy girl breakfast yourself.
00:07
Now before we get into it, let's first off explain the term lazy girl breakfast.
00:13
And it's not just lazy girl breakfasts, it's lazy girl lunches, lazy girl dinners, everything.
00:19
The term lazy girl to describe as a way of making food for yourself is a term that has
00:24
gone a little bit viral on social media.
00:27
It's not as insulting as it sounds.
00:29
It's an affectionate term for women who are on the go, who are far too busy to be whipping
00:35
up these really detailed, intricate and really a lot of effort put into meals.
00:42
And of course this term doesn't actually just apply to women.
00:45
It's basically anyone who wants to make healthy food for themselves that requires little to
00:50
no effort and if it's healthy and affordable too, that is definitely an added bonus.
00:56
I myself am someone who definitely struggles with getting to make myself a nice breakfast
01:02
in the morning.
01:03
Mostly because I can't really cook so I'm not exactly making anything too delicious or extravagant.
01:10
But also because I'm one of those people that is constantly on the go and I just want something
01:15
quick and easy to eat.
01:17
While I mostly just eat a bowl of cereal or a breakfast bar, it's not actually that substantial
01:23
and leaves me feeling quite hungry way before lunchtime even rolls around.
01:28
Not only that, but it isn't exactly the healthiest food either.
01:32
So I have been looking into creating lazy girl breakfasts and the one I've decided to
01:37
make today is overnight oats.
01:40
Now overnight oats are one of the best things you can eat on a morning if you want something
01:44
that is not only easy to make, that you can prep in advance, but also that is healthy and
01:50
filling.
01:51
So here is how you can make overnight oats yourself.
01:55
Now what I'm going to make today is a very basic overnight oats recipe, but there are plenty
02:00
ways you can personalise this breakfast item to suit your tastes.
02:05
So the ingredients that I'm using today are, of course, the main one, the oats.
02:10
Now you have to use either rolled oats or porridge oats, which is what I have for the overnight
02:16
oats recipe.
02:18
That's because the way that these oats are is that they are easy to mix into either milk
02:25
or yogurt, which is the next ingredient.
02:27
And once left overnight, it gives you that lovely texture.
02:30
I got this packet from Asda and it's Asda's own brand.
02:36
So it was really affordable.
02:38
As I mentioned before, the next ingredient can either be milk or yogurt.
02:42
Because I want to feel full and I want a much bolder sort of texture, I've chosen to go
02:47
for yogurt.
02:49
And again, I went for Asda's own brand of Greek style yogurt.
02:52
Because I would like this to be quite healthy, I went for the fat free version.
02:57
Now this is a point where you can personalise your overnight oats.
03:02
You can add seeds, you can add fruit, you can add honey, any sort of toppings that you
03:07
desire.
03:08
What I've chosen to add is a banana, which I'm going to chop up into little slices and
03:14
honey.
03:15
Now, of course, I want this to be healthy, so I'm not going to be putting a whole lot
03:18
of honey on this, only a tiny drizzle.
03:20
But again, it is completely your choice what you would like to personalise your overnight
03:25
oats with.
03:26
A lot of people choose seeds as well, which is something I definitely want to try in the
03:30
future.
03:32
You can look at all the health benefits of the sort of toppings you can have.
03:35
And of course, what you actually like to eat and make it your own personal overnight
03:40
oats breakfast.
03:42
So although I've shown you the ingredients, I'm going to give you a step-by-step guide on
03:46
how to make overnight oats with the ingredients I have shown you today.
03:49
So the first thing you're going to do is get yourself a bowl.
03:53
Next you're going to scoop in or pour in the yoghurt.
03:59
It doesn't actually matter the order that you do this.
04:01
You could go oats first, but I'm choosing to go yoghurt first.
04:06
Then it's time to pour in the oats.
04:20
As you can see, I've poured in quite a substantial amount.
04:25
Then it's time to add the banana, which I have chopped into little discs.
04:29
And I'm just going to pop that on there.
04:33
Lastly, a drizzle of honey for that extra flavour.
04:45
Now it's time to stir in the mixture and make sure it is all blended together quite nicely.
04:57
And now that that's all stirred up, you cover it with foil or cling film.
05:11
And that is literally how you make overnight oats.
05:15
Incredibly easy, incredibly cheap, and of course, very healthy and filling.
05:19
And here they are.
05:20
But it is not time to eat them just yet.
05:22
I'm actually doing this the day before I want to eat them.
05:25
So once you've mixed all your ingredients together and covered the bowl with cling film,
05:29
it's time to pop it in the fridge, leave it overnight to set.
05:33
And in the morning, it will be ready for you to eat.
05:35
And the newborn out is ready for you to eat, you twented.
05:40
So now that I'm.
05:41
Unlike the newborninicalcendo note of aquariums.
05:42
If you're in the middle of the world, like plastic cutter, I'm going to make it relatively Achilles.
05:44
So once I 거예요, I can't go back to my şimdi.
05:45
I've finished this video.
05:46
And right now, in the good news.
