Our furry friends who are housed at various animal shelters across the country can breathe a sigh of relief thanks to a much needed donation from various organisations in corporate T&T.
00:00The Trinidad and Tobago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals received a much-needed, sizable donation of supplies from various organizations in corporate TNT on Tuesday.
00:11The venture is being backed by multiple ministers, namely Agriculture Minister Ravi Ratiram and Minister in the Ministry of Housing, Philip Edward Alexander,
00:20in a bid to set up a collaborative effort between ministries, the animal welfare community and corporate TNT to discuss and find solutions to a number of issues regarding animal welfare.
00:32Operations Manager of the TTSPCA, Sarah Maynard, was on hand to receive the delivery and expressed her gratitude while confirming that not just the TTSPCA,
00:43but a number of animal welfare organizations who have had a hard time recently would be benefiting from the timely donation.
00:51Well, as you know, we've been struggling for some time, especially after COVID, and I mean, I'm overwhelmed by the support that we're given today.
00:59National Flower Mills, of course, has been incredibly supportive over the last years.
01:04So has Vemco, now Akado, and Joshua as well as he continues to help the shelter.
01:10This donation is not only for the TTSPCA, we will be extending that, and we have reached out to several animal welfare organizations
01:20to give donations from this as well to help support the work they do, and as well as our Port of Spain shelter,
01:28there will also be donations to Tobago to help the Tobago shelter, TTSPCA Tobago.
01:34Maynard continued by making a plea for animal welfare laws and the enforcement of those laws
01:40to become more of a priority, something which Agriculture Minister Ravi Rathiram says the government
01:45is keen to discuss and support, while also imploring citizens to seek better alternatives
01:51than leaving their animals at the side of the road.
01:54It is something that we have always been speaking about with respect to the welfare of animals,
02:00and it is something that this administration, under the leadership of the Honorable Kamala Persaud,
02:04our prime minister, uphold the principle of preserving animal welfare and ensuring that our animals are given
02:12the respect that they deserve.
02:14If it is that you cannot continue to maintain your animal at home, and don't just dispose of the animal
02:21on the side of the road, bring it to a shelter, engage one of these agencies,
02:25and we will provide the necessary love and care and attention for the animals.
02:31Despite the receipt of this donation, the TTSPCA still welcomes help from members of the public,
02:36be it through financial or material donations or volunteerism.
02:41Interested persons can contact the TTSPCA via their website, ttspca.org, or call 622-1367.
