00:00Sarah Maynard of the TTS PCA and Animal Welfare Network says the organization
00:06helps not only animals but people as well. Maynard explains that it takes at
00:12least $70,000 per month to run the organization. She says TTS PCA is the
00:19only open admission shelter in the country and it's becoming financially
00:24difficult to keep up operations. We're doing the pickup of animals on the
00:29street we're doing the cruelty investigations and it's gotten to the
00:33point that when council sat down at the last meeting we looked at our finances
00:39and we said well we have enough running funds to last us until September if we
00:44do not get government intervention if we do not get a subvention and what we're
00:49hoping for is a subvention that every year we can rely on to take up that
00:54shortfall. Meanwhile Joshua Hosein chairman of the love company is calling
00:59for a more structured approach to dealing with animal welfare in Trinidad
01:04and Tobago. The situation as it relates to animals at this time has been
01:12unregulated it's been unstructured the response and the framework that we use
01:19to treat with street animals and delinquent owners has never been
01:25properly formalized and funded. Hosein says they want to hold a meeting with
01:31all stakeholders he stresses that proper protocols are needed for the safety of
01:37animals and accountability of owners. There are a lot of other things that
01:42require proper structure proper framework we want all animals be
01:46microchipped if you see a dog in the road you are supposed to be able to
01:51scan that dog and know whose pet this was if somebody is bitten by a dog you're
01:56supposed to be able to scan this dog and knows whose dog this is if your pet is
02:00missing and police or corporation find your animal and they scan it they're
02:05supposed to be able to see your phone number and call you and say hello say
02:08are you are you missing your companion and these are all things that will be
02:13put in the place in a structure. If you want to assist the TTSPCA call the
02:19number on your screen. Nicole M Romany TV6 News
