00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, my name is Theo Hewson-Bet and today we're going to be looking at some of the biggest bits of transport news that we have for you this week.
00:06Now there's a couple of nice stories, so let's get started.
00:10Firstly, Transport for Greater Manchester have announced ahead of Armed Forces Day that all military personnel, veterans and cadets will be allowed to travel for free across Greater Manchester this weekend.
00:19Now cadets travelling in uniform, veterans who have their veterans badge or veterans rail card and members of the regular and reserve soldiers who have their MOD90 card will all be allowed free travel around the region as a small act of thanks to the soldiers who put themselves at risk for the defence of the country.
00:36Moving on now and a temporary new route is being implemented towards Bury's town centre tram stop as plans to replace the transport interchange there gain momentum.
00:44Now the planning application was submitted recently which would see an access staircase added in between a nearby underpass and the Metrolink platform which would allow people to access the platform while the works are going on at the Bury interchange.
00:56The works are expected to take around three years before completion with it being obviously impossible to shut down services into Bury for that period of time.
01:04This might not be the fanciest solution or the fanciest way to access the Metrolink but the set of stairs will at least allow for important improvements to Bury's transport infrastructure without any significant disruption.
01:16Planning permission is still required before the work can start with a decision expected by Bury Council in the coming weeks.
01:21Finally we have a nice piece on Manchester World's site on Volca Rail and Transport for Greater Manchester who've both volunteered to help get the Heritage Heaton Park tramway operating again after it was closed due to electrical issues last year.
01:33It's a great example of the transport teams in Manchester coming together to work for the community.
01:38That's all for now though. Thanks for watching and follow Manchester World for more.
