Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Bertz and today we're going to be
00:03
talking transport, particularly some of the stories on the Manchester World website that are most
00:08
likely to impact you, the people of Greater Manchester. Now we're going to start with the
00:12
roads with three months of motorway work set to provide not so small of an inconvenience actually
00:17
to motorists on the M62. There are going to be bridge repairs going on at the Risley-Mance bridge
00:23
between junctions 10 and 11 on the M62 between this month and early October. The work is required
00:28
so I'm afraid there's nothing much to complain about with bridge joints set to be replaced and
00:32
the concrete under the structure requiring some attention too. Traffic restrictions will be in
00:36
place over that time period so it's worth keeping your eye on how much journey times are affected
00:40
in order to minimise the impact on your day-to-day life. Public transport now and around 150,000
00:46
people between the ages of 18 and 21 are set to benefit from a half-price B-network bus travel
00:50
from the beginning of September. Young people will be able to buy a 28-day bus pass for just £40
00:56
which is half the adult fare coming to around £1.40 every day. It offers unlimited travel
01:01
on B-network buses which includes a growing range of night bus services. Andy Burnham made
01:06
the announcement recently as part of a rapidly growing scheme that will see public transport
01:09
become more reliable and cheap for the people of Greater Manchester and sticking with Burnham
01:14
and Public Transport plans to tunnel under the centre of Manchester being put together in
01:18
order to create an underground network of trains and trams. The hope is that the government
01:23
will assist with funding with Transport Greater Manchester obviously leading the project.
01:26
While this is a good sign the project is still a ways away with detailed plans and costings
01:31
not being chased properly until 2030 but it's nonetheless very exciting news for the region
01:36
and the city. That's all we've got for now though, thank you very much for watching and follow
01:39
Manchester World for more. We'll see you again next week.
