00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houstonbets and it's a great week here in Manchester.
00:05Everyone is just coming out of a long bank holiday weekend and they're either very well rested or struggling a little bit.
00:11But fortunately we have just the remedy with a video on all the transport updates that you'll need this week here in Manchester.
00:19So let's start with a call being led by a quarter of Greater Manchester MPs to see a new bus pass introduced to the B Network system.
00:24Graham Stringer is the most recent MP to join the cabal asking Mayor Andy Burnham to secure a free bus pass for children in temporary accommodation who live more than a 30 minute walk away from their school.
00:35This region's homeless families are often put in temporary accommodation quite far from home which can leave kids walking miles to get home if they can't afford the bus.
00:42Currently council rules state that children are only eligible for free transport if they're more than two miles away from school leaving parents in tough situations.
00:49A mayoral spokesperson stated that the mayor has asked to ensure that a review of this request is included in a broader assessment of concession tickets on buses that's currently ongoing.
00:58Next up we're going to jump onto driving with motorists warned that they should be expecting delays on a very busy section of the M60 over the next few weeks due to maintenance and bridge repairs that are commencing around Junction 19.
01:08The work starting on the weekend of the 6th of September will reopen on the Monday and then close again the following Saturday and Sunday which will mean the closure of multiple lanes and that can obviously have a massive impact on travelling times.
01:20Drivers are being asked to do their best to avoid the anti-clockwise route of the motorway and to try and find alternative ways into work or towards their destination.
01:27Finally bus strikes are being threatened over pay and condition issues across the country and also here in Manchester with issues like access to toilets, abuse and assaults also being contested.
01:36We'll keep you updated on that one but that's all for now.
01:39Thank you very much for watching and follow Manchester World for more.
