Manchester Transport Update

Here is all of this week’s travel and transport news for Greater Manchester.

00:00Hello and welcome to your weekly transport update for Manchester. As always there's a

00:04lot to get through so this week we're going to get straight into it. Firstly

00:07perhaps the thing that's likely to cause the most disruption is the Manchester

00:10Christmas markets that opened last Friday. They're going to cause the city

00:13to be inundated with festive travellers desperate to get their hands on mulled

00:16wines, giant Yorkshire puddings and a whole host of wonderful Christmas

00:20homemade wares. Tens of thousands of people are expected to be making their

00:24way into the city every day and car journeys that rely on the Manchester and

00:27Salford inner ring roads could take significantly longer than usual. The

00:31article on our website suggests that the trips could take around 20% longer

00:34between 4 and 7 p.m. which is pretty startling. As a result of that Transport

00:39for Greater Manchester is leaning on the public to use public transport where

00:42possible with the Metrolink network and frequent buses hopefully able to

00:45alleviate some pressures. If you live in Leigh, Bolton, Salford or anywhere along

00:50those routes the night bus services which operate 24 hours a day should

00:54allow you the lenience to be able to enjoy the markets without running out

00:57of time. Now while we're on public transport the plans for a new train

01:01station in Cheadle are still very much progressing despite some worries about

01:04the funding. Now there had initially been some concerns that following a

01:09changeover in government their plans would face delays but Labour have

01:13announced they will honour the full 2.35 billion pounds of investment that was

01:17promised in the town's fund deal which will be used to create the new station

01:20off Manchester Road as well as a new eco business park and some improved walking

01:24and cycling routes around the area. Once built Cheadle will become a part of the

01:29Mid Cheshire line which connects Chester to Manchester Piccadilly via Stockport.

01:33Finally TransPennine Express have announced that they'll be running a

01:37couple of extra services for two of this month's co-op live gigs. The first is the

01:41Sleep Token gig on Tuesday November 26th and the second is only a day later for

01:45the Charlie XCX gig. It means that a service will be leaving Manchester

01:49Victoria at 12.54 a.m. after each gig with the train heading towards

01:53Liverpool or Lime Street but please check the TransPennine website for more
