00:00well let's start with the good news as after the West Indies women rebonded from a whitewash in
00:18England to win a rain affected first ODI against South Africa in Barbados well the West Indies
00:23given a revised target of 180 from 34 overs well they got to the target with two overs to spare
00:29to lead the three mat series 1-0 West Indies won the toss and told South Africa to bat in the
00:36first women's ODI at the three W's oval captain Laura Woolford and Tasman Brits gave their side
00:45a good start yeah crunched through the offside a smidgen of width their partnership was worth 73
00:51in 15.5 overs very good timing exceptional timing Woolford made 27 while Brits would get 57 with
01:00Willow in hand got that away and that will be four again by the time both were out South Africa were
01:0798 for three cracked and straight to the fielder easy catch soon Elise chipped in with 32 for the visiting
01:14team big opportunity here for South Africa she was out leg before to Karishma Ram Harak it's given out
01:24it didn't take long Nadine the clerk made 42 lower down the order with South Africa closing on 232 for
01:31nine the cleric shall get four so boundaries coming for us in reply West Indies got a solid opening
01:38partnership from captain Haley Matthews and Kiana Joseph they put on a stand with 88 runs from 14 overs
01:46smashed it and Kiana Joseph just given the width Matthews made 40 but Joseph would go on to get 60
01:53all ripped away looking commanding now by the time both were gone it was 106 or two she's gone the field
02:04was set make that 127 for four with the run out of Chanel Henry for 11 well she just sort of stared at
02:12that with the score on 128 for four from 25.3 overs rain prevented play for a while the revised target
02:20was 180 from 34 overs Ianda Klubi was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets but there was
02:30Stephanie Taylor who made an unbeaten 30 that's it straight down the ground and again another six this time off the bat
02:37of Stephanie Taylor in the end West Indies got to 180 for six from 32 overs to win by four wickets on the DLS
02:45method they're not now on it keeps export well let's stay on the good news train as the national football team
02:52cemented their spot in the final round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers well that's inspired the 2-1 defeat to
02:58Costa Rica away from home last evening or virtually guarantee the place in the final round prior to the
03:03match TNT needed to not lose by six goals to advance and well they delivered much more
03:08a lot of the one striker Levi Garcia was the sole man forward take him out early and perhaps you've got a
03:18different game he begged and pleaded but the ref could not hear him over the chanting Costa Rican
03:23supporters the Warriors bombarded their goal with shots as well 14 to be exact but Newell's old boys
03:30keeper Kelo Navas at 38 saw their efforts from a mile away the difference perhaps came down to Costa
03:37Rica's defenders who gave Navas less work to do on the run of play the hosts took the lead in the 23rd
03:43minute through Jayland Mitchell a beautiful pass from left back Joseph Moura where were they finding the
03:51space to strike Marvin Phillips using reflexes he didn't know he had a second goal was on the
03:57horizon Warren Madrigal went forward and waited for the cross 2-0 in the 38th minute quality to
04:04Manchester United curse of conceding first-half goals but TNT has leaked goals in the first half in
04:10the World Cup qualifiers conceding two against the Grenada two against the St. Kitts and another two
04:17against Costa Rica it's a problem coach Dwight York knows about by now however the Warriors have
04:23proven to be stronger in the second half they were persistent resolute and struck the ball fiercely
04:29they worked at the ball through the field until it reached at the feet of Garcia who ran at goal his
04:37second goal of the 2025 season TNT back in the match trailing now by one Alvin Jones's red card
04:45prompted concern in the TNT camp the ref ruled he came too late with his tackle on Madrigal in the 76th
04:52minute the dreaded card no regrets in the ref's eyes despite the requests a harsh call thankfully it
05:01hurt the Warriors for the remainder of the contest Phillips dive to prevent further damage Costa Rica
05:07had 19 shots on goal against the Trinidad and Tobago and only two scored one was ruled offside in the
05:1589th minute yet the Soca Warriors still lost the match to one Costa Rica tops the group with 12 points
05:23followed by TNT on seven they advanced in the final round of CONCACAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers the
05:30official draw takes place tomorrow Sergio Dufo TV's export well mission completed for the Warriors
05:37and the smiling assassin Dwight York shared his pleasure with his team's qualification for the
05:42final round well reflecting on the match coach of the Trinidad and Tobago team Dwight York felt that
05:47they held the moments of control in the first half but they switched off when Costa Rica took the lead
05:52and I think it's an improvement from where we were the last game that we played I'm pleased with my
05:59players if they would be there they they work themselves to the ground we haven't to come
06:06into a very difficult situation here in Costa Rica we know what Costa Rica has to offer and we felt
06:11that we needed to work extremely hard and even though you know first half didn't go particular great for
06:17us at times we switched off when Costa Rica were on top of us at the time and conceded a goal despite the
06:24two nil defeat York said he was delighted to advance to the final round after showing fight in the second
06:28half a lot of credit has gone out to my players we saw another side of the team that probably wasn't
06:35there earlier on but I'm delighted even though we have lost the game sure we would have likely result
06:42to be a bit better but we are delighted of course in advance into the the next rounds of the World Cup
06:48for now though York will turn his attention to the Gold Cup on Sunday they face the United States who
06:54will be hoping they can turn their fortunes around after a four nil defeat to Switzerland in their last
06:59friendly encounter Sergio Dufour TV six board all the domino effect continues as the TTFA first Vice
07:06President Colin Murray feels this country's performances in the last few months suggests that the team is
07:11capable of qualifying for the World Cup even though Trinidad and Tobago lost to Costa Rica by two
07:20goals to one the result was good enough to take the English-speaking Caribbean country to the final
07:25stage of World Cup qualifiers that's where they face three other nations in another group with a
07:30table topper automatically getting to the World Cup while the runner-up might have another shot at
07:35getting there depending on other results first Vice President of the TTFA Colin Murray has lauded
07:41Dwight York for being able to deliver ever since his appointment as coach of TNT let me let me
07:46firstly say that I think Dwight York is doing a super job he came into it the team in a difficult
07:53position when we had drawn with Grenada to all we had hammered the Bahamas but but qualification for
08:01the World Cup was really you know was a little bit dicey I think he's now what he has done he's
08:08brought a professionalism to the team he's brought a desire to the players having said that Murray is
08:16aware it's a work in progress as York has to address certain areas with TNT aiming to qualify for their
08:22second men's senior World Cup Murray uses the example of the qualifier against Costa Rica where the Twin
08:29Island country conceded twice before cutting the lead in half more or less he's he's found what he's looking for there's
08:35still one or two little gaps that he has to close I think defensively we're not as tight as we should
08:40be and he mentioned it he said he wanted to keep a clean sheet against Costa Rica until you're going
08:45to Costa Rica is always difficult you're going to a country that is ranked higher than us you're going
08:49to a home crowd that is very partisan so you know I think at the end of it 2-1 was a pretty good result
08:56when York was a player he got a taste of World Cup action as TNT qualified for the 2006 prestigious tournament
09:04in Germany so the question is can he get to do so as coach and I think we have a good chance as anybody you know
09:12yes I'm maybe a little bit biased but the way the team is playing and the progression I've seen of the team in the last few
09:20months I think we have a decent chance prior to the next round of World Cup qualifiers TNT will be
09:27focusing on the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the opener on Sunday against USC Vinod Naumani Tf6 Sport
09:33all right let's check in with the other qualifiers around the block as five-time champions Brazil well
09:39they qualified finally for the World Cup with a 1-0 win against Paraguay to give Carlo Ancelotti his first
09:45win as a manager meantime the already qualified Argentina and Lionel Messi were held a 1-0 draw
09:51by Colombia yes junior scoring the winner just before halftime it was the first goal for Brazil
09:58and the new head coach Carlo Ancelotti who is trying to end at their 23 year way to lift another World
10:04Cup Vinicius did go off injured though which will be a worry for Real Madrid a week before their first
10:09game at the club World Cup Ecuador also qualified after a goalless draw with Peru my first 15 days
10:19have been beautiful in every way beautiful in how I was received by the Brazilian people at the stadium
10:24they gave me many shirts as gifts the atmosphere inside the Federation is fantastic it's like a family
10:30the players attitude the good connection they have with each other I liked everything all that was
10:35missing was a win and we now have it so we move forward with joy reigning world champions Argentina
10:42were already assured of a place they went 1-0 down at home in their latest qualifier against Colombia
10:48after this fantastic solo effort by Liverpool's Luis Diaz who's been linked with a move to Barcelona
10:54Argentina then had Enzo Fernandes sent off for a high boot but they managed to rescue the draw with an
11:01equalizer from Tiago Almada it's now six games without a win for Colombia but they are still
11:07sixth in the table on track for an automatic qualifying spot well very messy ask if I may say so well some
11:14have already punched their ticket while TNT like many other nations are still in the process as the
11:19world is gearing up to come together in North America for the kick-off of the FIFA World Cup next
11:24year while taking place across three countries and 16 vibrant host cities a newly expanded
11:31pool of 48 teams the 2026 edition is expected to unite the continent and the globe through football
11:37and one year from today the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off with the US Canada and Mexico co-hosting an
11:56unprecedented event instead of the now typical 32 men's national teams next summer's tournament
12:02expands to 48 teams with world-class athletes like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo possibly in the mix
12:10it's also the first time three countries will co-host across 16 different cities is this the most complex
12:16World Cup we've ever seen oh absolutely 100 percent FIFA's pitch management chief Alan Ferguson wants
12:22every team to play on a consistent surface whether they're keeping cool in the Pacific Northwest at
12:27altitude in Mexico City or sweating it out in Miami why not just let the players have to deal with unique
12:33challenges in each one of these venues today's modern soccer player is a highly trained and honed athlete
12:38it's their livelihood whether they're playing in Seattle or whether they're down in Guadalajara I need
12:44these pitches to behave absolutely the same I want the same bounce I want the same ball roll I want the same
12:49interaction from the players shoe into the grass Ferguson says that predictability protects players
12:56the safety aspects everything is paramount and that has to be my first thought they have to have
13:02confidence if they turn right sharply left sharply they have to know that ground is going to stay where
13:06it is that's not so simple when you're dealing with over a dozen venues that host everything from NFL
13:12football to the rodeo to monster trucks a lot of these in here are failures to find the right stuff
13:18FIFA turned to the University of Tennessee and Michigan State University and this one it feels
13:25a little bit is this sponge here yes I got it right yes in April we got exclusive access to UT's Knoxville
13:33facility the researchers took us below the surface literally artificial turf and then this is what
13:40aluminum loan of concert flooring and then up here aluminum concert flooring with the drainage layer
13:45professor John Sorokin and his team showing us that watching the grass grow is far from boring they've
13:52tested artificial stitching layers root growth and grow lights to ensure each pitch is consistent
14:00whether it's indoors or outside what grass needs is water nutrients air and sunlight or artificial light
14:08what we're using inside these dome stadiums to simulate it so we've been doing research in
14:12here to simulate the growing conditions to get the ideal grass for World Cup there's even the flex
14:18machine telling researchers the impact on a player's ankle we can see how fast the ball comes in and out we
14:25can break down all the film and know exactly the speed and the angle and the coefficient restitution
14:30that comes off of that ball that's amazing it's a science behind the game and that's what makes the game
14:35all that data leading to the World Cup grass I got to kick the tires oh that was a good one we'll watch
14:43that grass face the ultimate test next summer as superstar athletes chase glory with the world cheering
14:49them on well talk about precision I'll tell you what the big dance isn't the only thing that the US is
14:55getting set to host as the continent will also host the new FIFA Club World Cup which by the way kicks off
15:02this coming Saturday in Miami Florida newly crowned European champions Paris Saint-Germain are among the
15:08favorites heading into the tournament they've now arrived in Los Angeles where they kick off against
15:13Atletico Madrid on Sunday at the Rose Bowl PSG will then face Brazilian team Botafogo and the Seattle
15:19Sounders well it's never too late to rewrite history as England slumped at their first defeat under Thomas
15:25Touckel as Senegal secured a victory in a friendly at the city ground the two sides met in a friendly game
15:31at Nottingham Forest City ground Senegal with a three-run victory they haven't lost a match since
15:37January last year for England it's a first defeat under head coach Thomas Touckel after three straight
15:43wins in World Cup qualifiers well I can hear some hurting fans in the background all right let's dip
15:49into the pool where summer Nikolai Blackman continued to warm up for the 2025 World Aquatic Championship in
15:55August by winning the men's 100 meters B freestyle final at the Bell Canadian swimming trials the TNT
16:01swimmer blew away the field by more than a body of length to win the race dropping more than points to
16:07six seconds from his qualifying time that he said earlier in the day came out of nowhere in heat number
16:13one short course qualifier to get down to this time a 50.40 but as Blackman through first seven tenths
16:21of a second ahead of the field he's got a body length on them now as we come to the close of this race
16:27Nikolai Blackman in lane number four 49.86 this morning in the prelims and he wins his B final handily
16:34hand on the wall and a 48.66 a great drop from this morning win no matter what all right cricket jumps in
16:42as the World Test Championship final got underway as 14 wickets fell on D1 as the defending champs
16:49Australia while they fought back against South Africa at Lourdes Australia were put in the bat by
16:55South Africa in the World Test Championship final at Lourdes and the Proteus made a good start as
17:03Kogiso Rabada removed Usman Kawaja for a duck gone success it soon became 67 for four with Rabada
17:12and Marco Jansen on fire but Steve Smith and Bo Webster came to the rescue of the baggy green
17:19short wide Steve Smith absolutely belts it they put on a valuable 79 run partnership for the fifth
17:27wicket it's a beautiful drive on the up Smith made 66 while Webster went on to top score with 72
17:36Rabada was the destroyer in chief of the South Africans Cummins came and went and then all of a
17:45sudden the question was Jansen was also good taking three wickets but Rabada grabbed five as Australia
17:54were dismissed for 212 he did though when the South Africans responded Mitchell Storr got rid of the
18:00openers cheaply then Pat Cummins joined the party by castling Rian Mulder with a beauty maybe a bit of
18:09inside edge but you just how about this gem from Josh Hazelwood to send Tristan Stubbs packing South Africa
18:17were in dire straits at 43 for four at the end of day one still trailing by 169 runs Vinod Nawani
18:24to use export all right you know what that song means it's a sharp shooter that hits the target
18:31but tonight's clear did he one goal was scored in the second half between Trinidad and Tobago and
18:39Costa Rica it came from the boot of Levi Garcia he has the ability to outrun defenders and get to the
18:45poor behind the shot to beat the keeper if matches were made out of one half then TNT would have won with
18:5110 men that's one way to look at it but 90 minutes of quality football is what's required and 80%
18:59passing accuracy was not enough to take the Warriors over the line but the pass to Garcia which led to the
19:05eventual goal was the bright spot of the match for TNT and it earns him tonight's TV6 of the day
19:13all right dedicating that one to the alma mater or my alma mater rather since Stevens Anglican who hosted a career day today
19:19and they've got some budding footballers that we might see in the field very soon all right
19:24that's it for sports for the team I'm James Saunders see you later
