Champions India were deserving of the 2024 T20 World Cup title.

So says cricket analyst Fazeer Mohammed, who was impressed with the team's all-round performance throughout the tournament.

However, he felt runners-up South Africa had no right to mess up a winning position, which saw them shedding painful tears in the end.

00:00After beating South Africa by seven runs in a humdinger on Saturday in Barbados,
00:04India won their second T20 World Cup title. Cricket analyst Fazir Mohamad says
00:09even though there is justifiable resentment towards India for many
00:12reasons, the win was well deserved as they were strong in all departments of
00:16the game. But take nothing away from the strength of their team going right
00:21through the tournament it was obvious that they would be one of the favorites
00:24for the title and was only a question of whether or not they would capitulate
00:28under their own pressure of their fans and so many other elements before the
00:33final or indeed the final itself. As it turned out they held their nerve
00:36towards the end of that match against South Africa in Barbados when by all
00:41right South Africa should have been able to go on to lift the title but credit to
00:45the Indians because at the end of the day they have proved themselves to be
00:49the champion team in world cricket. Jaspreet Bumrah was the player of the
00:53tournament for his 15 wickets at an average of 8.26 with a miserly economy
00:58rate of 4.17 and over. Like many cricket gurus Mohamad too has been
01:03impressed with the Pacers performances over the years. As far as Jaspreet Bumrah
01:08what more can you say about this outstanding fast bowler when we saw him
01:12in the Caribbean for the first time and he was absolutely lethal in the two test
01:16matches in Antigua and Jamaica. It was quite clear that this was an exceptional
01:21talent someone who was able to generate fearsome pace with barely a run-up if it
01:26can be called that and with that awkward action made it even more difficult. The
01:31fact that he went through this entire T20 World Cup conceding less than five
01:36runs per over it is a testament to his outstanding ability not just to take
01:40wickets but to limit the scoring opportunities. Regarding the South
01:44Africans Mohamad says they had no reason to lose after requiring a runner ball
01:49when in pursuit of the final theatre runs. That leaves them with a choker's tag
01:54with the only ICC title success coming at the 1998 knockout trophy in Bangladesh.
01:59They had the match in their hands. They certainly were in a position with 30
02:04runs required of 30 balls. A runner ball in the latter stages of a T20 match
02:08should always favor the batting side unless they had brought the tail enders
02:12and that wasn't the case. As it showed they buckled not just under the pressure
02:17of the outstanding Indian effort led by Jaspreet Bumrah but also the pressure of
02:22the situation. It seemed to get the better of them and they caved in to the
02:26extent that 16 were required in that final over and notwithstanding all of
02:30the debate about that catch by Surya Kumar Yadav it should have never come to
02:34that stage. Mohamad gave the West Indies a passing grade for the hosting of the
02:38tournament. The next World Cup takes place in 2026 with India and Sri Lanka
02:43being joint hosts. Vinod Naoni, TV6 Sport
