00:00Hey, what's up? We're Kevin and Enzo from UltraQ. Yeah, we're going to show you what's inside the
00:13van today. Let's see, we're on tour with Anxious right now and our good friend Stateside, also
00:19from California. Yeah, been on the road for about three weeks, got about one more week left. We're
00:26in Chicago right now and at Cobra Lounge. Yeah. Back in town. We made it here. We're live.
00:33One week left. Home stretch, but then on the wrong side of the country so we could drive
00:38it back. Yeah. So this is the front seat of the van. We all share the driving responsibility.
00:48Our dear drummer and fearless leader, Chris, is driving most of the time and then me and
00:55then Enzo and Jacob. I might drive the least, unfortunately. I'm a backseat warrior. Jacob
01:02likes driving in the morning. No one likes the home stretch, obviously, but I'd say mostly
01:11Chris and I are driving. But then once the drive hits over eight hours, it's like all four
01:16people are taking a shift for sure. Yeah. We tour with no crew. It's just the four of us
01:21in the van. And so we had no driver, no nothing, no tour managers or anything. So it's just us.
01:28So we kind of got a bunch of essentials up here. We got some Kleenex, gum. I'm knitting a scarf
01:35for my girlfriend. That's a scarf that was crocheted by my girlfriend. Yeah. So we keep
01:41a stash of sunglasses up here. Sunglasses. We got some rubber duckies. A Star Wars bouncy ball.
01:48Origami cream. Oh, wait. Origami cream. Little front. Yep. But most importantly, we've got our
01:57hand sanitizer and our wet wipes. Yeah, we are not dirty. We are not dirty folk. At least
02:02we try not to be. We keep it pretty clean and hope no one gets sick. We have first aid kit.
02:08First aid. Power. Knives. Chargers. Cough drops. We kind of got a bunch. This is kind of super
02:19random zone right here. Kind of all the things you need to stay healthy on tour. We got another
02:26one. Oh yeah, more first aid. More first aid. We're chilling on first aid. We don't have to
02:32go to Walgreens that much. No. But you know, we got tapes from bands we played with. Like, we
02:38played with this band in Minneapolis last night. Everybody takes one. So, I guess, in pretty
02:44much 99% of circumstances, the driver is on Ox. And I'd say Chris plays a lot. Chris is
02:52our fearless leader drummer. He's playing a lot of classics. He's playing, you know, he's
02:57playing, you know, some hits. Keeping everybody happy, I'd say. He's got a lot of classic rock,
03:02a lot of, a lot of Motown, a lot of, like, classic hits. Yeah, for the, for some of the
03:11heads, you know, classic albums for some of the music heads out there. That's nice to
03:15hear. Yeah. You know, some deep cuts that everybody knows, though. It's interesting. You
03:20know. Um, Kevin is playing a whole lot of scrams recently. It's getting a little bit interesting
03:28for long drives. Sorry. Sorry. A lot of, yeah, I appreciate it, you know, but, you know,
03:34it's. I'd be playing agriculture every day when I'm driving. It's a little bit much. Uh,
03:39I'm more of, like, a gentle, soft kind of guy in terms of, like, soft piano music. Oh,
03:44yeah. Apex Twin. Apex Twin. Or just, like, soft acoustic music. Like, Elliot Smith in the
03:50van is never. A lot of Wilco. Everyone's playing a lot of Wilco in the van. And Jacob just is
03:55on his, uh. He's always playing Power Pop. He's always playing Power Pop. Always, he's
04:01always on that. He does not, he does not falter. But that's, it's kind of playing in
04:06the van. Super noteworthy as well. We installed CarPlay into this van. We bought it in a government
04:13auction. Um. That is the way to go. And it was really low miles. We spent more than we
04:20would have liked on it. But, but the first thing we did is we put CarPlay in it. And we just,
04:24like, are able to plug in the phone and just have directions up. And obviously play music
04:29really easily. Take good care. Alright, well, welcome to the back. Or the middle
04:36section of the van. Um, I would say I spend most of my time here. I kind of hog it. And
04:42so I usually have, like, a neck pillow on and then jacket on top. And that becomes sort of,
04:49like, my bed. And you just, you just kick it right here. And you're just like,
04:53and you're just like,
04:55my zone. Um, I, I'm not a hog. I don't, I like, you know, we need to rotate. So I
05:01wouldn't say anyone's stuff is particularly. Yeah. In one spot. Even when we shift, like,
05:07in the middle of the drive, we're swapping out backpacks. You know, make sure everybody has
05:11what they need. Right now we have, unfortunately, we're bringing back, uh, a JCM 900 that we had to
05:18pick up in Minnesota. Um, so that's unfortunately blocking this. So it's, this is almost purely just
05:26a, either you're doing the thinker right here or you're, you're laying down. We don't travel with
05:31the trailer because it's so prohibitive. Like, you have to drive way slower. You can never find parking
05:38anywhere. Um, and if you can avoid it, it also costs more money. So if you can avoid it, which we do,
05:45most of the time, we try. And like, we have double roof racks on top of the van. And like, that is
05:51filled with merch. That's like, filled with boxes of t-shirts and vinyl. Um, another rule about our stuff,
05:59we all travel with one small suitcase and a backpack. That's not really a rule, but that's kind of what's
06:04ended up happening. Yeah. If it's not, if that doesn't happen, I get pissed. So wherever you're
06:09sitting, you bring your backpack with you. So if I'm driving, this is my backpack. If I'm driving,
06:13my backpack's right there and right next to it is the person who's sitting in the passenger seat.
06:17And if you're sitting in this row, your backpack goes right here. There's kind of all these designated
06:20locations. And in terms of trash, we don't have a trash can, but we're trying to take out things
06:27pretty periodically. We just, you know, we resorted to just things going into the wheel well or the footstep.
06:34We call it the pit of despair. It's great. It's a great, it's a great name for the pit of despair.
06:40Um, so you know, when you're done with your thing, you just, just goes in and then you,
06:44when you stop, try and take it out. That's kind of how life is on the, on the, on the open highway.
06:52Yep. Pit of despair. Pit of despair. We have our singer, Jacob in particular,
06:57but truly all of us, it's such, it's so hard to eat fruit and vegetables on tour.
07:02And you hit a grocery store, you get some apples, up some bananas.
07:05You can't have too much though. It changes your life. Yeah, it's true.
07:08It spoils and produces like stinky garbage. Yeah. So it's tough. It's tough. And that's one of the
07:17reasons to start. Yeah. So this is, this is the funniest looking part of our van.
07:21We have two rooftop boxes on this, which is how we, this is literally how we tour with no trailer.
07:30Um, it's filled with boxes of, of t-shirts and vinyl at all times. And because of not having a trailer,
07:36we have to restock more often than other bands would. But so up top, we got all this stuff.
07:42And then, let's see, I don't think this is open. On the inside, we've lined it all with this,
07:49or Chris, our drummer has lined it all with this reflective material that really is, helps darken
07:56up the back of the van. Yep. Makes it definitely easier to sleep in the back. Um, and also just
08:02doesn't allow you, I mean, we come from the Bay Area, which is like, the land of bands getting their
08:07vans broken into. Dude. Unbelievable. So it's just one more step to take in terms of like,
08:14people not seeing it. Death prevention. Yeah. It definitely, I'm sure it has deterred.
08:20I'm certain. Because yeah, all our gear goes back here. So in terms of the pack,
08:25I am usually in charge of the, of the Tetris, the Tetris and making it happen. Right now,
08:32we unfortunately have our gear in the venue. So you don't see the beauty of the pack, but
08:37somehow we do it every time. And literally every time it is like, I mean, to the back bench,
08:45it's just kind of straight up and just, it's kind of unbelievable. And I don't understand how we get
08:51it. I even put like guitars up in the window, like, like sandwiched between like the seat and the,
08:59yeah. But there, we barely make do. We barely make do. And then that's kind of how
09:07you know, we determine how much merch we can bring is, you know, we're like looking at it,
09:10we see how many bins we have. And then we're like, fill these guys up on top. And we're like,
09:16I guess this is kind of the max. And, but yeah, that's kind of, that's kind of how we roll.
09:22That's how we do it. This is obviously our suitcases usually don't come to the venue. So this is kind
09:29of what remains. But yeah, if we had to bring drums on the tour, it'd be all over. It'd be all over.
09:38We haven't had to do a tour in a long time though, where we brought drums probably
09:42two or three years ago when we toured at the Waves of Cloud, no thanks. It was the last time, but
09:46yeah, brutal. Well, that concludes this. And I guess we're going to be on tour for another week
09:53and come check that out with Anxious and Stateside. And you know, the last record we put out was called
09:58Empty Yeti. I'm really proud of it. That's kind of what we're touring on right now.
10:02I'm working on new music, but until then, yeah, peace. I don't know, anything else to say, Kevin?
10:08This is our van. Yeah, this is our van. Thank you very much.
