00:00LS Eco Advanced Cables Limited has launched a five-week public consultation on their proposals
00:06to develop a high-voltage cable production facility here at the Port of Tyne for undersea electricity
00:13transmission designed to transport clean energy generated by offshore wind onto UK shores.
00:19While plans are at an early stage and still being finalised, total investment is expected to be
00:24approximately £923 million which would put the North East at the heart of the UK's clean energy
00:30transition. Firstly, it's really exciting for the Port of Tyne to announce plans to build a cable
00:36manufacturing. It's something that we've been working on for a few years now. It's a billion
00:41pounds investment again right behind us at the facility here but actually for us this is about
00:49jobs, 500 direct jobs at the Port of Tyne and thousands in the supply chain and that's what
00:56the Port of Tyne is all about. It's about attracting opportunity and being part of the Green Revolution.
01:01From a business perspective, this is something wider. This is about being a catalyst for further
01:06investment into the port and into the other ports in the region and into the region itself. We're all
01:12about attracting opportunities, generational opportunities and this really signifies that.
01:18This is the start of something new. It really puts us at the heart of the Green Industrial Revolution
01:25and we think this will be one of a number of opportunities to come to the Port.
01:32The consultation will run until the 18th of June and provide an opportunity for local communities,
01:37businesses and organisations to give their feedback on the proposed development before the final planning
01:43application is made to South Tyneside Council later this year.
01:48Well for us we know we can be the home of the Green Energy Revolution. There is nobody with better
01:53access to the North Sea particularly for offshore wind and we already are doing a whole host of things
01:58in the supply chain from the research and development right through to servicing of the offshore wind industry.
02:03This massive cable manufacturing facility will create 500 direct jobs, another 1000 in the supply chain
02:10and also give us a new string to our bow when it comes to delivering that green energy future for our region.
02:15So it's brilliant news for us. This is the future. This is not something that we can consign to politics.
02:22It's not a choice as to whether we transition. We will run out of fossil fuels and oil and gas has been a really
02:27important part of industry here on Tyneside and will continue to be through that transition.
02:32But for businesses like this, you know, they're thinking about the future, they're thinking about what
02:37investments they want to make and they're thinking about the fact that now we need great clean energy
02:42and offshore wind and this is, you know, absolutely here to enable that. Making the cables here on Tyneside
02:48that bring the electricity from those wind turbines onto shore, help us to secure energy security in Britain
02:55and also create brilliant jobs for the young people growing up here.
