NE1, Newcastle’s business improvement district had so much going on across the city including the much loved screen on the green. While the films and sports showings have now come to an end, the screen is staying up to broadcast the Great North Run

00:00the kids are back to school the weather is slowly starting a change which means summer has came to

00:06an end unfortunately anyone newcastle's business improvement district had so much going on across

00:13the city including tiny toon all the summer in the city events on the quayside and of course the

00:19much-loved return of screen on the green while the films and sports shows have now came to an end

00:24the screen is staying up to broadcast the great north run live i spoke with kitty brown to reflect

00:30on their record-breaking summer and to learn more so summer in the city and screen in the green this

00:36year has been absolutely fantastic we're really pleased because it's actually it's actually been

00:40a record-breaking year for us here on screen in the green at old eldon square we've had over 110 000

00:46people enter the space which is fantastic last year we had 95 000 so it's been a huge improvement so

00:51we're really pleased about that the economic impact as well as being over 2.3 million which is just

00:56fantastic for the businesses around and obviously it's provided a whole summer with free activities

01:01for family over the summer which is just fantastic yeah so we we started the screenings this year with

01:07the summer of sport so it's quite fitting that we're ending it with the great north run so rounding

01:11it off with some more sport which is really nice and we're bringing a screening of the bbc's coverage

01:17of the great north run to the screen this year at old eldon square it's the first time we've ever

01:21done that so this sunday if you come along we'll have the deck chairs out it's going to be beautiful

01:25weather you can just come chill celebrate an incredible event that's taking place in the city

01:30here in the city centre as well so it's going to be a really lovely day so it's the first time we're

01:36actually doing this here at old eldon square it's going to be a really nice event where people can come

01:41in grab some lunch if you're out shopping you can pop by and just enjoy the celebrations and bring people

01:46together which is what the screen on the green is about and even if people are dropping off their

01:51runners at the city they're able to come in enjoy maybe catch them on the screen and then head back

01:56off and meet them at the finish line and it's really something that everyone can enjoy it's going to be

02:00really good day once the race is over anyone's screen on the green will then be packed away for

02:07another year after a tremendously successful summer run which has seen over 100 free films screened to over

02:1330 000 attendees as well as five screenings for charities during the six week summer holidays

02:20but just because summer is ending it doesn't mean that the fun stops there

02:25over the next few months anyone will have plenty more in store

02:30so i can't tell you at the minute what we've got planned but you'll be seeing some fan favorites of

02:34the anyone events calendar coming back this september november december and which is really exciting

02:40we've also started planning for next summer as well which you can't believe it's just crazy

02:44but we've got loads of exciting things coming up so just keep an eye out on our channels and you'll

02:48you'll be able to see what we've got coming the great north run is back this sunday the 7th of september
