00:05sea following a collision at the Port of Tyne in South Shields. The tiny pellets known as
00:11nurdles have washed onto beaches across North and South Tyneside, Sunderland and Northumberland.
00:17North Tyneside Mayor Karen Clark says the port did not respond quickly enough to the spillage.
00:22The Port of Tyne says its spill response was activated immediately after it became aware of
00:28the incident adding safety remained the priority while the damaged vessel and collapsed crane were
00:34secured. Authorities continue advising people not to handle the pellets and to keep dogs on leads in affected areas.
