00:00On Monday, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine told the TV6 News the THA is in the process of appealing the Industrial Court ruling in favor of Mr. Walters and others.
00:12Mr. Walters described the move as no surprise but most unfortunate.
00:16How I see that is basically Farley looking for an opportunity to delay the process, to delay the process of pain on or before the 30th of June.
00:30According to the court.
00:32The Industrial Court ruled the THA had to pay over $3 million to 13 contract employees who were fired after the 2021 elections.
00:41Mr. Walters said it was a tough time for him after being fired as he did not have the necessary resources to take care of his family.
00:52I'm accused of being a bitter person. Don't I have reason to be bitter?
00:56I was terminated after almost 10 years working in the unit, right? Being able to take care of myself and my family, right?
01:06And I was deprived of that because of people and their own selfish, hateful, vindictive, political DNA, right?
01:19I have, well, I have one dependent now. Actually, I have two dependents. I have an adult son.
01:27The second one, when he left for university, there was nothing I could have done for him other than a $500 wallet I gave him.
01:40He recalled what his former close friend, a sitting THA secretary, told him following his sacking from the Community Partnership Unit CPU.
01:50It's because of you.
01:51It's because you wear the clothes on the unit. I said, because of me. She said, yeah, because you have gotten so disrespectful. I said, disrespectful to who? Farley? Watson?
02:05So she said, only in that case, though. I don't know what qualified her to say that because she's no lawyer. Yes, son. But what she said, the most interesting part is that she wasn't happy about the fact that we won't compensate it.
02:27Mr. Walters is calling on the chief secretary, Farley Augustine, to change his ways.
02:33If the PNM then, when he said that, had made a decision like what they did and get rid of, let me say, 5% of the working staff, the PNM would have been so wicked and evil then. But it's right now. You know, there's so much hypocrisy in these people and their operations, right?
02:53This is a man who claimed to be a Christian man.
02:56The court ordered the THA to compensate the workers for all outstanding vacation leave, prorated gratuity and the full value of what was left on their contracts. A final court order is to follow next month. Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
