00:00Hello, I have excellent news if you enjoy spring sunshine.
00:04The news isn't quite so good if you're after some rainfall.
00:08Yes, another largely dry and fine week looms large.
00:11Now, the bigger picture doesn't look all that promising to start with
00:15if you're after sunny weather with low pressure sitting down to the southwest.
00:19But if we take a look even further afield and take a view of what the jet stream's doing,
00:23there's one arc of it way up to the north, another band of it way down to the south.
00:28And this isn't going to shift the weather patterns too much.
00:31But gradually, under the influence of the upper ridge,
00:36this high pressure at the surface will push away that low pressure.
00:39And this high will dominate our weather for most of this week.
00:42The wind's going clockwise around.
00:44High pressure, though, means that with it sitting to the north or northwest of the UK,
00:48the breeze will be coming down from the north.
00:51And that will make things at times pretty fresh
00:53and often fairly cloudy on some north seacoats in particular.
00:57OK, let's rewind the clock and go through the week day by day.
01:00We've still got low pressure down to the southwest.
01:02So we've seen some thunderstorms on Monday.
01:05And again, on Tuesday, there is the risk of some heavy showers.
01:09Perhaps not as intense as Monday's downpours,
01:11but areas that didn't see them on Monday could get them on Tuesday.
01:15And still some heavy showers likely anywhere really from the west of London,
01:19particularly Hampshire, up through Wiltshire, Somerset,
01:22and across parts of South Wales.
01:24That's the area most likely.
01:25A flash of lightning and the odd rumble of thunder,
01:28along with some obviously heavy rain over a fairly short space of time.
01:32Most places, though, elsewhere are going to be dry, fine and sunny.
01:35There is going to be this low cloud.
01:36That's going to become more and more of a feature of the weather through this week,
01:40mostly through Tuesday,
01:41sticking to the coasts of northern and eastern Scotland.
01:44But where it does stick, it will suppress the temperatures.
01:46We are going to see quite a variation in temperatures for many days this week,
01:51close to the east coast.
01:52High teens probably.
01:54Elsewhere inland, we could get into the mid-20s.
01:56But where we see those heavy showers,
01:58again, low 20s at best.
02:01I'm feeling quite humid where we do catch those downpours.
02:03Still a few of them perhaps in the air as we go through Tuesday evening
02:07and perhaps even into Wednesday,
02:08because that low hasn't fully cleared away.
02:10But for most places, the high is becoming established
02:12and there's breezes springing in the cooler and potentially cloudier conditions
02:17down the eastern side.
02:19So maybe a little bit of drizzle in the air
02:20over parts of southeast Scotland, northeast England.
02:23Some of these places haven't seen rain for three weeks.
02:26So that could be a welcome little bit of drizzle,
02:29but that's all it's likely to be.
02:30Again, most places, fine, dry and sunny.
02:33Just that low pressure potentially bringing one or two scattered heavy showers still
02:38across Devon, Cornwall and maybe the Isles of Scilly.
02:41But again, like Tuesday's heavy showers, they'll be very hit and miss.
02:44The vast majority staying dry, fine and sunny.
02:47But we'll notice more and more of this breeze.
02:49That's going to have even more of an influence on the temperatures.
02:51We'll be struggling in the low teens in places.
02:55Elsewhere inland, perhaps not quite as warm as Tuesday,
02:58but still up to 23, 24.
02:59It's going to feel pretty warm.
03:01Why so much cooler on the east coast?
03:03Well, if you look at the sea surface temperatures,
03:05it's pretty obvious just 10 degrees,
03:07the water temperature in the North Sea.
03:09So with that breeze coming down over that chilly sea,
03:12that's why temperatures are going to be suppressed anywhere.
03:14We've got that wind feeding in.
03:16And that wind will continue to feed in because the high really isn't shifting too far.
03:20Just sitting up to the north, still bringing a lot of dry,
03:23finer weather through the night, staying largely clear.
03:26But the mist and low cloud will seep inland for Thursday morning.
03:30It may take a while before it moves back to the coast.
03:33And even then, you know, it could clear away from some coast.
03:36It's always a fickle mistress pinpointing this ha and sea frets.
03:40But it could stick around.
03:42And again, where you've got the breeze from the sea,
03:43temperatures will struggle.
03:44But a bit of sunshine will make all the difference.
03:46But notice, by the time we get to Thursday,
03:48even where it's sunny all day,
03:50temperatures are only really going to get into the low 20s.
03:53So it is turning a little bit cooler, generally speaking,
03:56as we go through this week.
03:57Obviously, 2021 still feeling very pleasant in the afternoon sunshine.
04:01By the time we get to Friday, if anything,
04:03the high is rebuilding out to the northwest.
04:06So we may see some subtle changes in the wind direction,
04:09which may mean slightly different areas get that cloud moving in through the night.
04:14It may well be a bit of a drab start over parts of the Midlands,
04:17southeast England.
04:18But again, most places, certainly inland,
04:20should see that mist and low cloud disappearing.
04:23But always a question mark about whether it sticks close to the coast.
04:26But again, with that breeze coming in from the North Sea,
04:29got a cool feel here in the sunshine,
04:31temperatures getting up above average into the low 20s once more.
04:36The high pressure likely to stick around even as we head into the weekend,
04:40sticking up to the north,
04:41keeping the weather fronts out at bay into the Atlantic.
04:44Just the possibility we could import a few showers in from the south or southeast
04:49as we go into the weekend.
04:50But for most places, it looks like high pressure will remain in charge.
04:53And just a cautionary note,
04:54a lot of sunshine around this week.
04:56UV levels are going to be high for most places.
05:00The sun is as strong now as it is at the end of July.
05:03So sunscreen definitely required,
05:05even though temperatures aren't going to be anything too spectacular.
