00:00Hi there and welcome to the Met Office forecast for the upcoming weekend.
00:04We go from cold and wet to milder but also still wet.
00:09All that's happening is the winds are changing.
00:11South-westerlies replace the persistent south-easterlies that we've seen during the year so far.
00:18It's also eventually going to turn milder to the east of the UK across many parts of
00:22Europe following a prolonged cold snap.
00:25That of course will shift the cold block to the east of the UK a little further, allowing
00:29these systems from the Atlantic to at least move through fairly quickly but they'll still
00:34be coming in frequently from the west so it's no real let-up in the rain, it's just that
00:39the wet weather will be slightly more on and off, I'd say, and affecting different parts
00:48of the UK compared with predominantly the south and the north-east and that's certainly the
00:54case.
00:54After a drier start on Saturday, it turns wet fairly widely although the heaviest of the
01:01rain will be over western parts of the UK and especially north-western areas.
01:05Western Scotland, north-west England, where it hasn't been that wet during the year so
01:09far, will get some very heavy rain and persistent damp weather through Saturday afternoon into
01:15Sunday.
01:16Northern Ireland, more rain to come here on top of what's already fallen recently and
01:20those spells of rain eventually by the end of Saturday reaching much of England and Wales.
01:25On and off at this stage, during daylight hours at least, turning increasingly cloudy.
01:30The cloud extensive and lowering on to hills across western parts of the UK so increasingly
01:36gloomy.
01:37Not much brightness then on Saturday afternoon but it doesn't make a difference to the temperatures
01:42because we've got this strong and gusty south-westerly airflow, importing warmth and allowing temperatures
01:49to reach 14, perhaps even 15 degrees and if the temperature reaches 14 Celsius or above,
01:55that would make Saturday the warmest day of the year so far.
02:00We're in warm sector conditions on Saturday in between our warm front and the cold front.
02:05Cold front does sink south but then it stalls across southern parts of the UK on Saturday
02:10night into Sunday and intensifies so some heavier rain for a time, not what we want in the south
02:15of course after such a soggy spell during January and February so far.
02:19But it will be a wet start, could cause some issues first thing, especially towards the
02:23south-west.
02:24The wettest weather falling onto Dartmoor, Exmoor for example.
02:27But it does clear through by the afternoon, brighter skies return and then we're into this
02:32showery airflow.
02:34Again south-westerly winds but these showers will be coming through thick and fast across
02:38Scotland, Northern Ireland, much of Northern England into West Wales.
02:42Interspersed by some brighter interludes but where the showers occur they're going to be
02:46heavy, chances of some hail and thunder.
02:49Gusty winds accompanying the showers and it's a little less mild but still temperatures fairly
02:53widely in the double figures away from the north of Scotland where colder air is starting
02:58to return.
03:00Then into next week, staying very changeable.
03:03Low pressure still in charge, we've still got these Atlantic systems moving through, could
03:06be very wet for a time Monday into Tuesday but it's going to stay slightly milder than average.
03:13・ ・ And then the.
03:13I think that you've got this운 approach.
03:14We've got this generation patch.
03:14A new one level that's been going through and it's called
