00:00Chairman of the Confederation Vivek Charan tells us he's looking forward to working with the Kamala-Pasad-Bissessa-led government to improve the state of operations for SMEs.
00:12He notes the long-standing forex problems and says he's optimistic of a brighter future.
00:19What we would hope that the government would do is that we need to find a role for the SMEs in diversification and that they would have enough, let's say, concessions and enough policies to encourage SMEs to translate into, let's say, manufacturing and export.
00:40On the issue of crime, Charan also shared that his own mother was a victim, explaining that four men broke into her home. Luckily, she was not there.
00:51He says crime is impacting everyone and no one is safe. Today, he calls for a more aggressive approach to crime reduction.
01:00We want to see, you know, a stronger, a stronger effort against the criminals themselves because there's this sense that we have been continually losing over the last couple of years.
01:14And coordinator of the Confederation and businessman Jai Lila Darasingh tells TV6 citizens are at their wit's end.
01:23He says, a greater show of force by the protective services in the form of police and army patrols will deter criminal elements.
01:33Despite whatever the last minister, Fitzgerald Heinz said, the population received nothing. There was no guarantee, no protection.
01:40We even were reading how tourists were being robbed and mugged. This is not a good image for the country at all.
01:46And all of this, put it together, is what is preventing foreign investment for coming into Trinidad and Tobago.
01:51Lila Darasingh further welcomes any efforts to arm deserving citizens who feel like sitting ducks.
02:00Look at other people's stories and other people getting home invaded.
02:03I'm also pleased to know, because this is a struggle the Confederation had, to get FULs to deserving citizens and deserving businessmen.
02:11We need a fighting chance to protect ourselves.
