00:00Newly elected Chief Executive Officer of the Private Sector Organization of Trinidad and Tobago, PSOT, Rudolf Hanamji, says a clear
00:09national roadmap is needed to strengthen the economy.
00:13With particular focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, he believes sound public policy will be critical to attracting
00:22investment and creating an environment where businesses can grow.
00:26If we don't get public policy right, if they don't get more activated and involved in not just PSOT, but
00:34their respective associations and influence public policy in the right way, this type of economic decline can either continue or
00:45our economy will stagnate.
00:46Hanamji says the country's declining energy production and weakening economic indicators underscore the urgency for decisive action.
00:56He argues that Trinidad and Tobago must adopt policies that encourage long-term growth and position the economy for a
01:04more resilient future.
01:05The best advisors tell us, with the oil and gas fines projected in 2027, particularly gas, our economy is simply
01:15going to be maintained where it is, Marlon.
01:18And if we want to look at the stars and vision of better Trinidad and Tobago, we need to find
01:23hundreds of millions, billions of dollars to invest in education, healthcare, agriculture, to feed ourselves.
01:30The PSOT CEO also highlights the importance of strengthening trade and investment ties with Guyana.
01:38He says reducing non-tariff barriers between the two countries could unlock new business opportunities while encouraging greater local and
01:46foreign investment.
01:47And there needs to be a joint Guyana-Trinidad fund to ensure that there's mutual investment on both sides of
01:56our nations.
