00:00PAP political leader Philip Alexander was joined by the UNC's Wade Mark as he filed
00:06his nomination papers for Port of Spade North, St. Anne's West, the constituency also being
00:11contested by Prime Minister Stuart Young.
00:14And Mr. Alexander thinks the cost of living will be the defining issue in the general
00:20election.
00:21People are struggling to survive.
00:23We have been measuring the success of this country by how well the rich and the 1% are
00:28doing.
00:29We are measuring the success by how well those on the bottom rung are doing.
00:32And that's what my voice is for.
00:34On the night before nomination day, the UNC announced the 39 candidates of its coalition
00:40of interests, which has seen some familiar faces not being selected as candidates for
00:46the UNC.
00:47The most important thing is to get Kamala Bissetta elected as the next Prime Minister
00:52of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:53What she does after that, and I'm telling everybody who joins the coalition, everybody
00:57who comes on board, everybody who wants to come on board, if you're joining an army,
01:01respect the general, bend your knee, offer your sword, know that she has a plan.
01:06When you look at the candidates that she has chosen, every problem people even mention
01:11or thought to mention, she's solved.
01:13She's right and ready for the job, and I am here to support her.
01:17Mr. Alexander later told his supporters he heard why the Prime Minister had not yet arrived
01:22with PNM supporters.
01:23If they park up on the road and they're afraid to come because we're here, so we're going
01:24to do the honourable thing.
01:25If we stay here until 4 o'clock, we'll bring back the phone.
