00:00Ramada takes the reins of the COP for the third time after a resounding victory at the
00:06party's recent internal election. This, after outgoing political leader Kirk Sinett sought
00:13to appoint Ramada to replace him when he demitted office. The move led to contention within
00:19the party, with one member threatening legal action against the decision. On Tuesday, Mr
00:25Ramada explained the process of his victory.
00:29We had to do certain things, where I was appointed deputy political leader, and then he of course
00:34resigned. I'd been the sole deputy political leader. The convention in the party had been
00:39that that person would move towards interim political leader until a national council
00:45could ratify it. Now understand what had happened. There had been no ability to get a national
00:50council quorum for years. We were able to get that on Saturday, and I got 94 plus percent
00:57of the vote of national council. Ramada says there are those within the party who are seeking
01:03to cause mischief and have contributed nothing to the development of the party. I could count
01:09them in half the number of fingers on my hand of the troublemakers, if I may put it like
01:14that. Persons whose duty it was to ensure the constitutionality of the party failed
01:20miserably and then sought to benefit by their own failure to keep me out of the party. I
01:25ask why? I've come to help. I did not come to hurt. The COP leader tells us he intends
01:32to restore confidence in the party once more. However, he admits that the party cannot stand
01:38alone and indicated his preference to aligning with the United National Congress. And I'm
01:44embarrassed to tell you the cumulative vote of the COP running on its own. I will not
01:48call a number. And therefore, there's a necessity to work together with others in the political
01:57space, the UNC, of course, being the dominant opposition. And therefore, we need to work
02:03with them. The question is, how do we engage with them? Right. As I had to tell our meeting
02:09on Saturday, the COP is not a sticker. They just take it and stick it to something and
02:14say we are present. No. He also joined the chorus of opposition voices, saying it was
02:19wrong for the prime minister to resign at this time. Nicole M. Romany, TV6 News.
