The Archdiocese of Port of Spain today joined with Catholics around the world in mourning the death of Pope Francis.
Pope Francis passed early Monday morning, after suffering a stroke and subsequent heart failure.
Archbishop Jason Gordon remembers the Pope as

00:00One day before his passing, Pope Francis briefly left convalescence and made a surprise and final
00:12public appearance before a crowd of roughly 35,000 at St. Peter's Square at the Vatican,
00:18where he delivered the blessing at the end of the Easter Mass.
00:30According to the Vatican, at 7.35 a.m. on Easter Monday, the Bishop of Rome, Pope Francis,
00:39returned to the house of the Father, having died of a stroke. He was 88 years of age.
00:44The Pope was admitted to hospital on February 14, suffering from bronchitis and was later
00:51diagnosed with double pneumonia. He never made a full recovery. Here at home, the Archdiocese of
00:58Port of Spain is expressing deep sorrow in the passing of his holiness. A statement by Archbishop

01:10to Christ. He was a faithful disciple who kept the joy of the gospel alive in the hearts of the
01:16faithful, even as he called us to a deeper love within the family, for a common home, for the poor
01:24and marginalized, and for one another across every boundary and division, end quote.
01:30The Archdiocese will hold a memorial liturgy in the Pope's honor, on a date to be announced.
