00:00Now Tottenham Hotspur are heading into a crucial summer
00:05with Ange Postacoglu's future suddenly uncertain.
00:09What began with so much promise has started to unravel
00:12and the club now faces a major decision
00:14on whether he remains the man to lead them forward.
00:18Postacoglu brought energy, identity and early success
00:21but inconsistency, defensive issues and a refusal to adapt tactically
00:26has raised questions.
00:27A top four finish is now completely out of the fold
00:32and the momentum that defied the early part of the season
00:35has certainly faded.
00:37There's a growing feeling that something isn't quite clicking
00:40and major change needs to occur.
00:43Postacoglu stays, he'll need serious investment and support.
00:47If not, Spurs are staring at another rebuild.
00:50We spoke to James Trembath, the Spurs expert,
00:53to explore where things went wrong.
00:55What's next for Ange Postacoglu and why this summer could shape
00:59the club's direction for years to come?
01:04James, looking at Spurs and in terms of Ange Postacoglu,
01:07now we've mentioned multiple times that this is probably likely
01:12to be his final season at Spurs.
01:13You know, it's just clearly not been good enough.
01:15There's been some overwhelming factors that we've gone through as well
01:18to suggest, you know, his tenure could be coming to an end.
01:21We've also looked at replacements.
01:24Just let's go over it again a little bit in finer detail
01:27in terms of maybe where he went wrong.
01:30And, you know, Ange is coming out now and sort of saying how,
01:34you know, things have gone wrong and things were wrong
01:37from the very start of this season.
01:39And he's also sort of, you know, quoted towards the possible candidates
01:43to replace him, which is quite remarkable, really,
01:45at the end of the day.
01:47And, you know, it's an interesting situation for Spurs.
01:49It leaves them looking for another refresh.
01:52You know, the bigger picture is it's likely there will be a new manager
01:55in terms of a new season, you know, coming up in the future.
01:59But, you know, where does it leave Spurs at the moment
02:01and Ange Postacoglu's time at the club?
02:05Yeah, I think that it's interesting this week in particular, isn't it,
02:08that the sort of tone is starting to shift a little bit.
02:11I think that's the first time we've sort of seen Postacoglu talk about,
02:15you know, a future away from Spurs, or certainly alluding to that fact.
02:19And really interesting interview during the week as well
02:22around this business of, you know, we didn't get the preparations right
02:25at the start of the season.
02:26And that's kind of been where the problems began.
02:28And he's been chasing his tail ever since,
02:30which I think is very, very interesting as well.
02:33And I mean, you know, on one hand, you think about that as a,
02:36you know, an admission and quite refreshing that he's come out
02:40and admitted that and he's trying to lift the lid
02:41and give a little bit of insight into what's really been going on
02:43behind the scenes.
02:45But in the other half, you know, we knew players were coming back
02:48off a major tournament.
02:50Lots of very, very short, truncated pre-seasons.
02:54You know, we invested in youth rather than experience for the main,
02:57albeit some really talented youth.
03:00Every Spurs fan, I think, in the country and probably worldwide
03:03knew we were undercooked in terms of the squad going into the season
03:06with, you know, a limited squad with four competitions in store.
03:11And we've gone deep into Carabao Cup,
03:13we've gone deep into the Europa League.
03:15And obviously the injuries have just, you know,
03:17curtailed us really in terms of where we've gone this season
03:20and hindered our development, as we all know.
03:23So that's really, really interesting, I think.
03:26And, you know, you just wonder how have we allowed that to happen?
03:30I mean, every Spurs fan, like I said, knew that we only went into the season
03:33with one recognised left-back.
03:34We were short at centre-back.
03:35We were short of experience, probably midfield.
03:38Probably could have done with another front man.
03:39So, you know, it just begs the question, really, doesn't it?
03:43How on earth has that been allowed to happen?
03:44And Posse Coglu's got to shoulder part of that blame.
03:47And we need a big summer.
03:49You know, we say this every single year at the moment,
03:52it feels like it's like a broken record, deja vu job.
03:54But, you know, we need, if a new manager is to come in,
03:58should, I suppose, you know, not do the impossible
04:00and win the Europa League, which, as I say,
04:02I still don't think that would be enough to save Posse Coglu.
04:06We need, you know, we need that investment.
04:08We need a commitment from the chairman, you know,
04:10to really back the manager.
04:12We need the director of football to go out
04:14and, you know, buy players early
04:16because there's a full summer this year,
04:17which is a rarity.
04:19You know, there's no international tournaments.
04:20We've just got the Club World Cup.
04:21I suppose we'll be involved in that, as we know.
04:24So we can really have a good go at this pre-season,
04:27but we need to get players in early.
04:28We need to identify those targets, you know,
04:30and also we need to see who's going to be left
04:32in terms of players that leave the exit door
04:34through the summer.
04:35So, you know, it's not all doom and gloom,
04:38which, again, bizarre to say, I think.
04:40But we need the right appointment for the next manager.
