00:00Tottenham's season has been inconsistent, with moments of promise under Ansh Postakoglu
00:08undone by defensive issues and squad depth concerns. With their only saving grace being
00:14the Europa League, Spurs are holding onto their final chance of silverware this campaign.
00:19As attention shifts to the summer, significant movement is expected, with the club looking
00:24to reinforce key areas and address potential outgoings. How much change can we anticipate
00:29at Spurs in the coming months? We discuss Tottenham's season and their summer plans
00:35with James Trenbrath of London World.
00:37Yeah, just on the summer, how much sort of movement do you feel there will be out of
00:42the club? Do you feel, obviously we don't really know the managerial situation, it's
00:47probably likely that we can say that Ansh might not be in the dugout come the start
00:50of next season. I mean, that sort of turnover period of manager to signings is really, really
00:58tight and we've mentioned that there's a young core to the team, maybe that can be
01:02the sort of saving grace at the start of next season for Spurs. Do you see a lot of movement
01:07in the summer in terms of outgoings and who could they bring in, what sort of areas they
01:12need to improve on?
01:13Yeah, I think so. I mean, there's going to be big question marks over Romero in the future,
01:17that's the big one, two years left on his deal. Will he engage in talks to sign a new
01:21contract? You know, I hope so because he's a terrific player. I think he's never quite
01:27hit the heights consistently for Spurs, which has been a disappointment. Again, he's suffered
01:31with his fitness. So, centre-back is going to be a position we need to look at anyway
01:36because we have only got three natural centre-backs. Ben Davies is coming to the end of his contract,
01:41terrific servant for Spurs, you know, will he get another 12 months potentially as a
01:44squad player? Again, he gets a lot of stick, Ben Davies, but there's certainly been worse
01:48people and players at Spurs over that past 10 years. So, centre-back will be really,
01:55really interesting and again, a position we need to fill. Will we go back in for Mark
01:58Gaye after a sort of failed effort there come the end of January? This time around, the
02:04centre of midfield, as I say, Bissouma, I can't see him being at Spurs next season.
02:08I think that, you know, there's a lot of talk about Benton Kerr maybe getting another contract.
02:12I actually feel sorry for Benton Kerr because he's a Rolls-Royce of a midfielder on his
02:16game. He's obviously had some horrendous injury problems and now when he plays, he's just
02:22woefully exposed as part of the system, as we've just been speaking about, you know,
02:26the midfield in such a wide open space, you know, he's covering the work of three players,
02:31albeit he has lost a bit of form and a little bit of fitness. You could see the confidence
02:35when I was there a couple of weeks ago, it had just drained out of him and he's another
02:38one who's really suffering on current form. Johnny Cardoso, this is the American midfielder
02:45and we've got the option on from Real Betis. He's, you know, doing very, very well in the
02:49league of this season. £25 million buy option, I think, before the end of July for him.
02:54I could see him coming in, which would be a good move, but obviously we don't want to
02:57block the paths of Val and Gray, but we do need some experience in that midfield and
03:02general leadership, you know, in terms of the team, particularly in the midfield at
03:06the back, as I say. And then if you look at the front positions, I still think we're short.
03:10You know, there's a question mark over Matthias Tell. He's shown flashes. Again, he's a very,
03:16very young man, scored a good goal in the FA Cup against Aston Villa, but has petered
03:21out a little bit ever since. Albeit, you know, we know the reasons around the team and not
03:26playing particularly well at the moment, the Premier League form, etc. So do we take the
03:30option on him for £50 million? That feels like a little bit of a leap of faith at the
03:34moment, to be honest with you. That said, you know, there's clearly a talented player
03:38there. You don't play for Bayern Munich if you're not a talented player. So that'll be
03:42interesting. And then you're looking at, you know, potentially the likes of Brennan Johnson.
03:46You know, he's got 14 goals this season, but has been really, really poor, almost like
03:52he doesn't trust his hamstrings after some significant injury problems over the past
03:56sort of eight, nine months. He's always there at the back post to finish off, but his general
04:01play is extremely poor. That's hung me in song that he'll still be at Spurs next season.
04:06Now he's signed the contract extension, but do Spurs look to cash in now? Is it a form
04:12issue? Is it the fact that, you know, he's getting on a bit, he's played a lot of football,
04:17still a quality player and he's shown flashes this season. But, you know, is the time right
04:21for Son to move on? Should he get a big money offer from, you know, the likes of the MLS
04:26or Saudi Arabia? Who knows? But as I say, you know, the squad's not a million miles
04:32away and I still strongly believe that. But, you know, the system, the set-up's just not
04:36working and we definitely need some players to help us there in terms of that augmentation,
04:41in terms of leadership and senior pros.
