00:00Thomas Frank is set to take the reins at Tottenham Hotspur, with the club finalising compensation
00:08of around £10 million to Brentford, following Ange Postacoglu's departure.
00:13After agreeing personal terms, Frank is expected to bring trusted staff with him, including
00:18assistant Justin Cochran and performance lead Chris Haslam, as Spurs prepare for a fresh
00:24chapter.
00:25Frank's reputation for tactical intelligence, high-energy football and player development
00:30have made him the standout choice for Tottenham's technical director, Johan Lange.
00:35After guiding Brentford to promotion in 2021 and achieving consistent Premier League stability,
00:41he now faces the task of transforming Spurs into serious contenders again.
00:46Tottenham are already active in the transfer market, with Matthias Tell arriving from Bayern
00:51Munich. And further additions in defence, midfield and attack are expected. Frank's arrival
00:58signals a shift toward a more unified, progressive footballing identity, one built on hard work,
01:04discipline and smart recruitment. We caught up with James Trenbath of London World, who covers
01:10Spurs closely, to explore what Frank's appointment means for the club and what supporters can expect
01:17this summer and beyond.
01:20Who's job?
01:21James, Ange Bosco flew out. Thomas Frankin, obviously Brentford manager, who's done so
01:28well on such a shoestring budget. There's been calls that they could face relegation a number
01:33of times, especially after losing the likes of Ivan Toney. He's reinvented strike forces with
01:38the likes of Buemo and Vissa. He's become a manager that has really, really got the best
01:43out of unknown players. I mean, on the surface, I think he really, really fits Spurs' bill and
01:50where they're going to go from now on. It looks like the only way he's up for Spurs. He's made
01:55the move across London. What are your thoughts on Thomas Frank when he was sort of linked on,
01:59you know, we've spoke before, maybe he wasn't that appealing. But the credit he's done with
02:05with the likes of Brentford, it's been fantastic to get them up and keep them a sustainable outfit in the top flight.
02:12Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I'm thrilled with the appointment. I think actually probably the most
02:16excited I've been since Monsieur Pochettino was appointed as Spurs manager a good while ago now.
02:20I think he totally fits the bill. You know, I mean, sort of head over heart, I think it was the right
02:26decision to let Ange go. You know, we've obviously got the trophy, as we've spoken about, but the caveat
02:32around the league form, the performances, not just this season, but at the back end of last season as well.
02:37You know, we were averaging, conceding nearly two goals a game. The football had sort of
02:41gone out the window. You know, we'd lost the style. We weren't adaptable like we were in Europe.
02:46Ironically, I think if we'd have just adapted a little bit more to the players that we had and
02:51to the opposition, we could, you know, well, have done a little bit better and Ange might well still
02:55be in a job. So, you know, I do think, you know, the time was right to make the change.
03:01If we'd have gone into the start of the season with Ange, we could have been in another 10-hag situation.
03:05And, you know, imagine you sort of come out in the opening day against a promoted team and you get
03:11beaten by Sunderland or Burnley or Leeds and immediately the pressure's on Ange again.
03:15And it would just become very, very toxic very, very quickly, had we not got a fast start.
03:19So, you know, I think it was right just to make the change. Very difficult, obviously,
03:24from the board and Daniel Levy this time around. I'm sure that was a really, really tough decision
03:27to make. But Thomas Frank, you know, he ticks all the boxes for me. He's, you know, he's progressive,
03:33done a fantastic job with Brentford on a model very similar to Spurs, working within a real tight
03:38structure. Let's talk about Eze. And he obviously shares a close link with Spurs with his CAA base
03:44agency. And obviously that's very, very closely matched to Spurs. It's a tough deal to do,
03:49but that would be a statement signing. You know, Spurs could do with a Madison Kulicewski
03:53sort of foil with both of those guys injured and unknown in terms of return dates. As you say,
03:58Buemo would be a very, very good deal. And, you know, within Spurs' price bracket, I appreciate
04:03he's, you know, Manchester United and the low there, but Spurs can offer him Champions League
04:07football and the link now with returning and rejoining Thomas Frank. So, yeah, I think
04:12there's definitely deals to be had. We need to be smart. We need to be savvy. I know we
04:16looked at, we linked with Leroy Sané, for example, on the free transfer market. He's gone
04:20to Turkey now. But we do need some winners in that team now. We need some, you know, I
04:26say winners, we are winners now, obviously, but we need some more experienced heads in
04:30there who've got a little bit more Champions League now about them and can just help us through
04:34in those tough periods. So hopefully we're in for a really exciting summer. And let's
04:38just hope Daniel Levy gets his checkbook out and spends and backs Thomas Frank in the market.
