00:00Now, frustration is mounting at Tottenham as once a promising season under Ange Postacoglu has not gone to plan.
00:11After a strong start, Spurs lost momentum and serious questions are now being asked about Postacoglu's tactics, decisions and the team's overall direction.
00:20What initially felt like a beginning of a new era of exciting front foot football has been overshadowed by defensive frailties,
00:28questionable in-game management and a lack of progress when it matters most.
00:33The mood among fans has shifted and discontent is becoming hard to ignore.
00:39I spoke to Spurs expert James Trembath about where it's gone wrong for Postacoglu,
00:43the growing frustration among supporters and what the future could look like in the home dugout.
00:50James, looking at Spurs and in terms of Ange Postacoglu,
00:54now we've mentioned multiple times that this is probably likely to be his final season at Spurs.
00:59You know, it's just clearly not been good enough.
01:02There's been some overwhelming factors that we've gone through as well to suggest, you know, his tenure could be coming to an end.
01:08We've also looked at replacements.
01:09And just let's go over it again a little bit in finer detail in terms of maybe where he went wrong.
01:16And, you know, Ange is coming out now and sort of saying how, you know, things have gone wrong and things were wrong from the very start of this season.
01:25And he's also sort of, you know, quoted towards the possible candidates to replace him,
01:30which is quite remarkable, really, at the end of the day.
01:33And, you know, it's an interesting situation for Spurs.
01:36It leaves them looking for another refresh.
01:38You know, the bigger picture is it's likely there will be a new manager in terms of a new season, you know, coming up in the future.
01:45But where does it leave Spurs at the moment and Ange Postacoglu's time at the club?
01:50Yeah, I think that it's interesting this week in particular, isn't it, that the sort of tone is starting to shift a little bit.
01:56I think that's the first time we've sort of seen Postacoglu talk about, you know, a future away from Spurs or certainly alluding to that fact.
02:04And really interesting interview during the week as well around this business of, you know,
02:09we didn't get the preparations right at the start of the season.
02:11And that's kind of been where the problems began.
02:14And he's been chasing his tail ever since, which I think is very, very interesting as well.
02:18And I mean, you know, on one hand, you think about that as a, you know, an admission and quite refreshing that he's come out and admitted that.
02:25And he's trying to lift the lid and give a little bit of insight into what's really been going on behind the scenes.
02:31But in the other half, you know, we knew players were coming back off the, off a major tournament.
02:35Lots of very, very short, truncated pre-seasons.
02:39You know, we invested in youth rather than experience for the main, albeit some really talented youth.
02:45Every Spurs fan, I think in the country and probably worldwide, knew we were undercooked in terms of the squad going into the season with, you know,
02:52a limited squad with four competitions in store.
02:56And we've gone deep into a Carabao cut.
02:58We've gone deep into the Europa League.
03:00And obviously the injuries have just, you know, curtailed us really in terms of where we've gone this season and hindered our development, as we all know.
03:08So that's really, really interesting, I think.
03:11And, you know, you just wonder how have we allowed that to happen?
03:15I mean, every Spurs fan, like I said, knew that we only went into the season with one recognised left-back.
03:20We were short at centre-back.
03:21We were short of experience, probably midfield.
03:23Probably could have done with another front man.
03:25So, you know, it just begs the question, really, doesn't it?
03:28How on earth has that been allowed to happen?
03:29And Posa Coglu's got to shoulder part of that blame.
03:32And, you know, I think that's really interesting, as I say, with his tone.
03:35And, you know, he almost is talking now like he knows the writing's on the wall.
03:40And, you know, I would doubt even if we win the Europa League, that'd save him, to be honest.
03:44You know, he's been talking about Pochettino coming back and flirting with Spurs.
03:48And like you say, these ideal candidates that are world-class should Spurs look to go in another direction.
03:53And that's the first time he's really started to speak about that.
03:56So maybe, you know, things are a foot behind the scenes.
03:58You know, I don't think anything will be happening before the end of the season.
04:01But certainly, I think we'll be going into next season with a new manager.
04:05We start again, we rebuild.
04:06And, you know, it's a sad state of affairs, really, in terms of on and off the pitch at the moment with the club.
04:11And a lot of people just feel so disenchanted and disconnected.
04:14So, you know, where we go from here, you know, who only knows, really.
04:19There's no international tournaments.
04:21We've always got the Club World Cup.
04:22Spurs won't be involved in that, as we know.
04:25So we can really have a good go at this pre-season.
04:27But we need to get players in early.
04:29We need to identify those targets, you know.
04:31And also, we need to see who's going to be left in terms of players that leave the exit door through the summer.
04:35So, you know, it's not all doom and gloom, which, again, bizarre to say, I think.
04:40But we need the right appointment for the next manager.
