00:00Opposition leader Kamala Prasad Bisesa has highlighted strategic changes, including the selection of candidates for the 2025 general election, as part of a major transformation within the UNC.
00:14I have purged and I make no bones about it. I have no regrets. I have purged from our party the politics of caste. I have purged from our party the politics of class. I have purged from our party nepotism, family connections, segregation, discrimination and dynasty from the UNC.
00:38She was speaking at the UNC's presentation of candidates at the Centre of Excellence in Macquarie on Saturday night.
00:45This realignment of the UNC was not easy. It took me about 15 years to transform the UNC from a one-man show, from hereditary aristocracy to transform it into meritocracy.
01:02Prasad Bisesa addressed the candidates and party members, emphasising that while the party features a mix of youth and competent experience, non-performers who fail to prioritise the public's interests will be removed under her leadership.
01:19I know that some of you have put yourselves forward. Many of you have worked in the trenches for the UNC and there will always be a space and a place for everyone who has helped to build this party.
01:35Many times I've seen people become overly attached to trappings of office. I want to make it clear, anyone, I repeat anyone, and I mean anyone who does not serve the people, who just suffers the people around them, will be removed from office.
