Trinidad and Tobago was one of the countries that took part in the Central
00:03
Caribbean Cup in Panama. Part of the team was Leanna Valentine who earned a gold
00:07
medal in the discipline of Kumite. She participated in the under 55 kilogram
00:11
category for females under the age of 21.

Winning this gold medal is an incredible feeling but as much as I am proud of
00:22
this moment I know it's not the end of the journey. If anything it's just the
00:27
beginning. This victory proves what I'm capable of but it also pushes me to aim
00:32
even higher. One of the challenges Valentine faced at the tournament was
00:36
mental pressure. It was sink or swim but the 19 year old not prepared to
00:40
surrender. To overcome these challenges I focused on my training and preparation. I
00:46
reminded myself of the countless hours spent refining my technique and
00:50
conditioning my body for moments like these. I also worked on my mental
00:54
toughness, visualizing success and controlling my emotions during high
00:59
pressure situations. For Valentine winning gold was the ultimate reward
01:03
for countless hours of dedication, sacrifice and relentless training. The
01:08
moment she was declared the winner Valentine was not the only one who was
01:11
ecstatic. For my coach it was a moment of immense pride and fulfillment. They had
01:17
been by my side pushing me beyond my limits to find my technique and instilling
01:22
the mindset of a champion. For my family it was incredibly emotional. They had
01:28
been my strongest supporters standing by me through victories and defeats, always
01:33
believing in me even when I struggled to believe in myself.
01:36
Valentine finds ways to make time for her work and training sessions.
01:42
After all her aim is to keep achieving more and more for the twin island
01:52
country. Vinod Nawani TV6port
