00:00Well, the Guest at Ameland started in 1988.
00:11It was founded by Dietrich von Boetticher.
00:13The first horse he ever bought won the German Derby, so he obviously got off on the right
00:18start and that gave him the confidence to carry on, and one of the best horses he had
00:23before I became involved was called Borja, who was a filly who won the German Derby,
00:28which is something that all German breeders breed a dream of doing.
00:33And so he sent, I think the first mare we sent abroad was a mare called Holdon, who
00:37was by Suramoo, who we decided to send to Mangere, because we always used racehorses
00:42that we rarely admired as racehorses.
00:45Not so rarely much for their pedigree, but horses that made us have a strong emotion
00:50when we saw them win big races.
00:53And this mating produced Hurricane Run, and so I think a lot of German people followed
00:57on afterwards, and I think people realised that Sadler's Wells and German bloodlines
01:02mixed very well.
01:11But you can never tell which is going to be the best one.
01:14Sometimes the one that's worth the most money that you think is going to be the great
01:18one turns out to have a lack of willpower and doesn't want to win.
01:28And just to give you an example, this year's crop of three-year-olds bred at Gastrodamerland,
01:43there were 18 foals, 16 of them have run, 14 of them have won, and four of them have
01:49won stakes races, including a horse that ran in the Arc de Triomphe that was second in
01:53the German derby called Mr. Hollywood, who was by Ikitos.
01:56I mean, Ikitos, I think, covered four mares, five mares that year, two Gastrodamerland,
02:03two stakes horses, one of them called Drawn to Dream is actually in this dispersal, if
02:10that's the right word for it, as a racing prospect as well.
02:24And I think that's really important, and Diedrich Wambacher and Annabel have had great fun.
02:30They've involved their children, they've gone round the world, those colours are famous.
02:36And I think they've won races in England, in Ireland, in Hong Kong, in America, we've
02:41had horses with Christophe Clermont in America, it's been an international operation, but
02:45it's never been an extravagant showy operation.
02:48It's been an operation to win big races and to have fun, and to maximise the chances,
02:53and I think that, from that point of view, it's a rare opportunity for people.
02:58Here is all the breeding stock that's left, we've already reduced a lot.
03:02There's no, we've kept this one, no, etc.
03:04They're there to be sold, and it's an opportunity for everybody to come into these families
03:09which have shown that they will stand the test of time.
03:44See you next year.
